I think Lee's parents and grandparents were kinda shy to meet Carla for the first time. She is an Australian and they probably haven't had many chances to get to know her due to language barrier. I'm sure they love Carla and welcomes her so much~ it's just that they didn't know how to express in English so they were just being shy to say hi to her and hug her and etc. For the next month or so in Korea, they will get close to each other by spending much time together! So Carla, hope you don't feel hurt by their mundane reaction~!
Thank you for explaining to everyone who might misunderstand! I completely knew this when meeting them and I for one thought they were all lovely! I would love to talk about all the great things they’ve done for me but it would take pages. Well said 👌🏻
Sage is lucky to have her great-grandparents and grandparents!! This made me think of my dad when he first met my mom's Korean family in the 1960's. They were very reserved/traditional, and kind of shocked having an American in their home. Just be yourself Carla, I'm happy you get to meet, and spend time with Lee's family.
Was about to comment the exact same thing. When I first visited my in laws they were exactly the same. It took the dad about two to three weeks to get completely comfortable. The mum on the other hand, wow i think mum's are mum's no matter where you go lol. She was pulling my pants up and trying to feed me as soon as i walked through the door haha.
my mum would beat me to a pulp once the guests leave bc the house ain't looking "pristine" as it always does when guests come over smh. it already looks pristine yanno
when you realize that they were a four-generation family in the video , I think you are blessed dude I have not seen my grandfather before he died three years before I was born and my grandma died four years ago.
I feel you man my Dad's dad died when I was a baby so I never really met him and I lost my other granddad and both my grandma (Mum's side) and my Nana (Dad's side) within 2 years of each other luckily we're a big family (I have 7 aunt's and uncles on both sides of the family so not including wives and husbands that's 14 plus their kids and in some cases grand kids) and we all came together and we're closer than ever so at least something good came of it all.
my dad's father died before i was born, i think. then my mom's father died just 2-3 years ago. it's sad to think that my grandparents won't be able to see me adulting
I never got to meet my dad’s father, although I met his mom, both my mom’s parents are still healthy and my great grandmother is still going strong at 92
Jeez, this comment hit home hard. My Granddad died before I was born. My Grandma when I was just a child, too young to remember. My grandparents on my other side lived in another country, and the last time I saw them was when I was 7. They have also both been dead for over 10 years. I lost my mother at 27 (only 2 years after her own mother), and just lost my father, so I'm an orphan at 34. :( My mother didn't even get to come to my wedding. :(
I was just saying the same 😂 it's same for any race no matter where u come from Grandma always think u look skinny an then want to make u eat I love it
It's just so interesting to me how every culture is different in the way of reacting to things. The last time I made a surprise visit to my mom, after one year away, she jumped up-and-down and screamed so loud that she could be heard down the street. I think Lee's family was just as excited, but show it differently.
My grandparents reacted the same way Lee's family did. My dad is from Korea and his parents (my grandma and grandpa) were really happy to see me but they were shy. Unlike my grandparents from my mom side. They were very happy jumping up and down calling everyone in the family to come over. My mom is from Mexico but she's mix. My grandma is Australian and my grandpa is Mexican. So I like to think I'm mix with Korean, Australian, and Mexican and of course American😂😂 I hope all that made sense😅
I may be wrong, but I think that Lee's family overall calm reaction was also out of respect for Carla since it could also be a shock to her if suddenly they all started speaking Korean like super fast and asking questions without her understanding. I loved this video, super cute and warm :)
Haha my Moroccon family in law didn't care about that. They were rapidly talking to me in Moroccon Arabic (which I didn't speak at that time), and replying to themselves when they noticed I didn't know the language
Im 93kg at 6 foot and both my wifes mum AND Grandma harass me as soon as they see me, literally spoon feeding me before I get in the door. I usually gain between 5 - 10kg in a month haha
My nan is the same, everytime I go over to see her, she makes the heaviest, stodgiest food for me, everything either comes with gravy or custard :) for those who are struggling with the word stodgy/stodgiest, it's a British/English word which means heavy, filling, and high in carbohydrates.
Lee's parents reaction are normal for those who are shy and didn't know how to speak with a foreign language. I love the family and I love that you guys are in South Korea now. That's amazing! I hope to see more videos now that you are in Korea!!! I love you!!!
You guys be quiet with the Korean grandparents and parents not being welcoming. The subs don't match their expressions. Clearly if you understand Korean you'll know they were surprised and happy to see them. Language barrier is the reason you're not seeing them with Carla, but off camera they'll try to communicate
Not seen eachother for 3 years and not even a hug. I know culture is different and that they love their children just as much. But one way of living is more painful than the other. Just saying.
Aww thank you! We will defiantly have more Korean speaking parts in future videos! That’s so sweet thank you! I did practice but in that moment I forgot everything 😂
Young family영쀄밀리 haha I completely understand! That happened to me in my Korean 3 class when the teacher suddenly called on me Smh. plus I think it’s nerve racking in general to use a language you’re not familiar with because you want to get it right and not accidentally offend someone XD as you’re there in Korea I’m sure you’ll pick up on more since you’re immersed! 화이팅!! :D
Lee's family is so calm just like him. And your mum in law looks young. She could pass off as Lee's elder sister. I'm sure your inlaws like you already, Carla. You have a good personality & a wonderful wife to Lee. For us Asians, the secret to get along with the in laws is to be humble. And then when they see how much you & Lee love each other plus how well you take care of Lee & Sage...you'll win their hearts.
Some people say that mix marriage don't always work. That is not true folks. I was happily married to my Korean wife for 35 years. Sadly she pass away from cancer a few years ago. I miss her very much.
You're not kidding about being a young family. I'm impressed. My grandfather and grandmother have passed away but I'm still not even married let alone having a child. You guys are so much more mature-minded than me.
Guys I'm British Korean and trust me, the mum (when she opened the door) and the rest were extremely happy! It's just the suprise element caught them off guard totally XD
I understand Carla so well! I was also staying one month with my boyfriend's family in Korea. It is a really different culture from ours and I wanted to make a good impression on his family haha and I don't speak Korean so it was hard
Anna K ah! I’m the same but my boyfriends family is Chinese but I’m learning so that I can overcome that barrier. I think it’s good to learn their language! Good luck in your korean journey
aww you can see how much they loved seeing the baby. that's actually a good reaction from them, I'm Chinese so I understand how Asians are. especially the older generations, they don't like surprise visits because they need time to prep and clean and maybe have food and snacks ready. and also have their clothes and hair etc. looking their best. but they were nice and welcoming. it was smiles on everyones faces. I hope they get to spend a lot of time and bond with baby and mommy.
I'm so happy and excited for your family to be in Korea for one month, this is so frigging exciting and I can't wait for more Korea vlogs to come. Love your channel and vlog so much. #notificationsarealwayson. Sending you lots of love from Brisbane
Why do I have a cheeky smile all throughout the video. I’m so happy that little Sage finally met her korean side of family. And of course for Carla to meet her in-laws. I wish you guys an eventful and joyful stay in Korea. Stay warm, Young family. P.S. May I ask what color is Sage’s eyes?
It’s my first time seeing another “young” mixed family like mine! I am also 20 years old and my boyfriend is a 27 year old Korean man and we also have a child together, our 8 months old son! I became a mother when I was 19 and I guess it’s the same for you😊 you are doing a wonderful job (both of you) your child is lovely😍
That was so heartwarming! Family is everything and the bottom line is your love for each other which I can see in every video. Looking forward to more videos of your stay in Korea!
Nah their just shy around foreigners. They know her korean isnt conversational level and believe it or not but not everyone in korea speaks fluent english in an Australian accent... It took about two weeks for my father in law to talk to me. Funny story we ended up last ones awake after a party was winding down. My Korean wasnt great especially after a few and his english is non existent, so we ended up talking in Japanese in Korea to understand each other haha
So proud of you guys... great job Carla for supporting Lee and be with him with his family. It’s not easy to learn and get used to Asian culture and parent’s traditions. Keep it up guys. I’m your biggest fan from Canada 🇨🇦

Finally . And this vid made my day . My heart was full of excitement and anticipation when you guys knocked on the door . So much love from the family when each one came and don’t care if it’s cold outside . Blessed Lee’s family . Take care and keep warm , it’s minus 1 there 😘
It's just a korean thing... we show our emotion by just looking, handshakes and patting... usually hugs if your parents are a huggy person... but it's always nice for other cultures to show how they great with hugs and handshakes.. then next time we know... my parents are the same.. but now they have korean/british grandchildren they love hugging and expressing their emotions in words and actions.. but saying that.. they've been living in the UK for the last 23 years.. 🤔
Oh my God! I think I'm gonna cry! You guys are so sweet and I don't know why I am so hook up with all of your videos. To be honest, your videos is just so simple but it is very interesting
I remember meeting my husbands parents for the first time. I was terrified and i couldnt communicate with them much because I only knew a few words in Korean. I cried afterwards haha
HIs dad had me dying!!! HE comes in the door to greet her and all he does was put his hand up lmao too freakin cute!! Love your family! Happy Holidays Young Family and much joy!
Lol I cried while watching this video just because I don’t have a mom to come home to anymore (she passed away) and I’ve been thinking of migrating and leaving behind the life I’ve known.
If I did that to surprise my family, my mom probably be chasing me with a broomstick already... Shell think I’m a criminal person etc😂😂 Being Asian be like
My mom would curse me out😂 while my dad just laughs. I like to think some Hispanic moms are kinda like some Asian moms. I I don't have an Asian mom but I do have a 2 Asian aunts😂
Great family reunion, loved the Spurs shirt and no surprise about grandma's reaction, that was the money shot ! You had to go then because a year later everyone is locked down by Corona.

Lol I cried while watching this video just because I don’t have a mom to come home to anymore (she passed away) and I’ve been thinking of migrating and leaving behind the life I’ve known.
UR BABY IS ADORABLE!! I WILL PROTECT HER FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
