    Interesting Fact:
At the end of Levi OVA (No Regrets), Erwin told Levi not to regret when Levi started blaming himself for the death of his friends. Erwin told Levi something like: "once you start regretting, it dulls your future decisions and others will start to make decisions for you, leading to death."
In the end, Erwin started to have regrets about his actions so Levi made the decision for him, leading to his death :(

One of my favourite things about Attack on Titan is how it portrays soldiers bravely charging to their deaths. Usually, when an epic speech is done, and soldiers go charging into battle against impossible odds like in The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, their faces seem devoid of fear. The idea is that they’re so brave, they face down impossible odds and certain death without even flinching.
Meanwhile, in Attack on Titan, after Erwin finishes his speech, and his soldiers charge into certain death against the Beast Titan, you get a close up of their faces, and they are absolutely terrified. It’s clear that they’re shitting themselves, and would rather be anywhere else. Yet despite their terror, they charge into battle all the same. For me, that’s far more inspiring than soldiers charging into battle without seeming the least bit scared.

But even if he found that basement and proved that there is an outside world, there is something beyond the walls, wouldn't he'll be peer pressured to be a commander again? We already know that he is haunted by his actions that led to his comrades death, I think that's why Levi decided to save Armin instead of Erwin so that he's free from his goal, Erwin was a slave to his goal....he never felt freedom just like eren.

    • @PengyDraws
      @PengyDraws 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@thelegacyofgaming2928 His character's journeys aren't particularly Shakespearian. The main hallmark of a Shakespeare tragedy is that the tragic hero starts out in a good position, and then is lowered through a character fault. This applies to basically none of the characters, since they're all in pretty shitty positions. It's a bit closer to the gangster rise and fall story arc.

Indeed. It honestly reminds me of what SCPO Mendez said to John-117 in Halo: Fall of Reach after the funeral for the Spartan-IIs who died due to augmentation failures. "A leader must be ready to send the soldiers under his command to their deaths. You do this because your duty to the UNSC supersedes your duty to yourself or even your crew. It is acceptable to spend lives if necessary. It is not acceptable, however, to waste those lives." Erwin faced that burden with dignity and honor, being both the hero who inspires his soldiers to victory and the devil ready to condemn them to death for the sake of the mission. And to the very end, he did everything in his power to make sure that the lives lost were always lives *spent,* never wasted.

All the events talked about in the video have been read by many a long time ago now. What's coming in this next season is a paradigm shift that I think not all will appreciate, but for me and many others it's what solidifies AOT as a Masterpiece. The build up and then execution of Chapter 100 is so insanely good, it should be coming up around the first half in season 4 (Season 3 ends at chapter 90).

From early on I thought Armin could be Erwins predecessor- and especially so when the series put a focus on his brain power. Both characters are extremely intelligent and can read situations accurately, but the difference is experience- Erwin has faith in himself because of his experience where Armin does not. Hanji is now the leader of the corps but once her time has passed (and maybe Levi’s), I think Armin will have gained the leadership skills and self confidence to be the next Erwin. So in answer to your question- I think the outcome would be pretty similar because the characters are alike in many core aspects :D

In the end, Erwin gave up on his life and dream for the sake of the ones who follow, just like many others did for him to be there. Because dreams are meaningless when you are about to die. But if you give your life for the ones who follow, they will embody the meaning of your existence... and so, humanity will always keep fighting. And that is the sole method in which they can rebel against that cruel world, a world that doesn´t allow them to have dreams.

If a man with such charisma ever existed in this world, I would gladly die for him. I would never say if I were to die for nothing, of course, I would only die if it was *that* important. If it were Erwin, I would give my life instantly. His resolve just transfers unto people and makes you understand him. Such I great man.

Your video helped me find peace with that whole Levi's decision of choosing Armin over Erwin debacle. It didn't sit well with me, Erwin was so effective at his job and we could only hope that Armin would be able to rise to the challenge... I hadn't thought about it the way you describe, but it makes a lot of sense now. Erwin was the person needed in that moment in history, to get humanity to the point they are in the story now, but wouldn't have been able to see beyond, and into the future. And I am ok with that ^^

Everyone always thought that Erwin was the obvious choice to ressurect but from the beginning I knew it would be Armin. His relationship with Berthold made me sure of it. So when it came I was just thinking of what Erwin would do past his titanification and it didn't seem right. Armin as the colossal made more sense to me and I'm glad to say that big boi Armin is great in the manga

Armin is very brilliant but what Eldians needed was a Leader with Intelligence, Strategy, Character, Ability to Motivate, Experience and Ability to determine goals and objectives.
In the manga the Scouts have become more useless than ever because they do not have a Leader and Armin has done absolutely nothing just cry, it was better that he died this season and not ruin his character, it is the only mistake Hajime Isayama has made for give Eren a more leading role, the positive of this? Well, it gave an unexpected twist to the series.

No, it was obvious Armin would live because he's a main character unlike Erwin. Levi's decision still seems a little bit off for me. In no regrets it was shown Erwin was the whole reason and motivation for Levi to keep pushing on. One would think his selfishness would overpower the need for Erwin to be laid to rest but it didn't go that way and the only reason I can see for that is either S4 would be over much sooner or that Armin is a main character. There's nothing that would logically support his decision.

I think maybe the character Erwin Smith was named after Erwin Rommel; a German field marshal during World War 2 who was known for being a great strategist and gained the open respect of even his enemies. And since Aot does have some ww2 references it seems plausible.

Armin's dream is selfish, too. Armin wanted himself and his friends to see the ocean. It's similar to Furlan's and Isabel's dream of seeing the sky: they just wanted to see the sky for themselves rather than wished to free all the people of the Underground. When Armin arrived at the sea, he focused on the scenery while "forgetting" the plight of Paradis. Being fascinated by the outside world isn't problematic by itself, but Armin's purposeful ignorance is worthy of criticism.
Erwin's dream is 100x more beneficial to mankind. He wanted to know the truth of the fucking world because humanity was in a dark deep forest with no knowledge whatsoever and his original motivation was that, when he raised his hand in the classroom. ALSO worth noting that Season 3 episode 3 makes it clear that young Erwin was perfectly willing to believe that his father's death was justified; if there was a good reason, he’d have been fine with it... which means he didn't figure it out until he joined the military, which means that his original motivation to join the Survey Corps wasn't his father's death, but the pursuit of knowledge.

Erwin started keeping things to himself he never thoroughly explained why the basement is beneficial or what comes after to anyone; he kept the fact it was his dream to himself as he got older, that's what makes Erwin selfish. His comrades fought and died for something they believed would help humanity and it would but in reality Erwin wasn't doing it for that reason anymore. Erwin was sacrificing his soldiers for his dream, Erwin had lost the heart to keep fighting on; he wavered in his belief and started living for himself this is the reason Armin was picked. Armin was prepared to give his life so others could experience his dream Erwin wasn't prepared to do that until he felt so exhausted he couldn't live anymore. Erwin was only deluding himself into thinking it was for humanity Isayama's interview on Erwin's death explains all this. This doesn't just apply to Erwin either every older character seems to do something similar to Erwin when they begin to tire from life. It's as Kenny said everyone is drunk on something to keep going and Erwin became drunk on his dream.
