How many of you guys knew Levi was an Ackerman? I did too, I think I saw it on social media somewhere and didn’t think much of it. I only realized it was a mystery for so long in the story when I rewatched it with my girlfriend who hadn’t seen it. I’m convinced the founder altered our memories.
I didn't know anything at all about AoT when I watched the first episode almost three years ago. Frankly, I was completely ignorant wrt anime at that point in time, and simply wanted to check out what the fuss was all about. And, well, I actually thought Attack on Titan was going to be a SciFi anime (Titan, largest moon of Saturn) .. yeah, I know, anyway, I binge watched the first three seasons in a week or so. But for some reason, I didn't even realize Levi's identity was supposed to be a secret that was hinted at in this episode. The mystery for me was why Levi and Mikasa never addressed the curious fact that they were both Ackermans and shared a unique fighting prowess. I explicitly did not watch or read any secondary material during that week to not be spoiled, so .. I have no idea why I also always assumed that Levi was an Ackerman.
It went over my head a few times until I realized in the first season Levi is referred to professionally only by his first name; "Captain Levi" "Levi Squad" where as Erwin and Keith are referred to as "Commander Smith" or "Colonel Shadis" compounded with Kenny's flashback where he says his name is "just Levi" I think it's cause back in the day the AOT fandom leaked everything, so Levi being called Ackermann was something that reappeared online from the manga but I never connected it I have no memory of when I started calling him "Levi" and "Levi Ackermann" so it wasn't til my third rewatch it hit that Levi's family name was unknown to him most his life
@@Starburst514 The more I think about this, the more the resemblance between Mikasa and Levi comes to my attention: they have a similar look, they move with the same grace and power, their demeanor is also quite similar (cool under pressure, extremely determined, most alive when fighting), and they are both intent to protect Eren at all costs .. for different reasons, of course, but it is yet another commonality. The anime also did a fine job to illustrate their fighting skills which are different from everyone else but very much alike. And both their pasts are mysterious: While we know Mikasa's parents, her heritage is different from all the other characters - the murderers of her parents wanted to trade her explicitly for her exotic looks, and we witness her "awakening" to something within her that changes her fundamentally without any explanation. Levi's past is completely unknown at first, so also a mystery. But since he shares comparable abilities with Mikasa, and with her alone, we are logically led to the question, if something happened to him as well? And the inescapable follow-up is: Why them? Why not anyone else? So, there are plenty of reasons to consider them to be related in some profound way from the start.
I think for those who have watched anime for a while, or read manga for a while, or honestly followed any story like this.... we were told about the Ackermans and their abilities after we've already seen how amazing Mikasa and Levi are. Given they're amazing, we hear there's this mystery family - well of course. One or both of them are going to be related. But those who don't follow stories like this very often (like... before AoT I watched a lot of Naruto, Ouron Highschool, FMA, etc) there are moments where shadowing happens. But they're not quite this... layered lol and specific.
I think I just assumed that Levi was an Ackerman when its shown that he was a sickly orphan and that Mikasa's mom is described as a rare beauty/uncommon feature. In a roundabout way i figured they were cousins or distant relatives
me realizing that Levi’s last name wasn’t common knowledge at one point and that the phenomena of everyone knowing his last name is something we’ve all experienced 🤯
I always thought it was a great way to show the difference of mindset between the scouts and MPs... Marlo and Hitch are "hunting." But really theyre just chatting. Trampling through the woods and bantering back and forth. The scouts could hear them coming from a mile away.
dude I felt the same way about the whole "Levi is an Ackermann" reveal!! idk why none of us questioned it either, but I feel like from the get go we all just figured he and Mikasa were related because they were the strongest and both had black hair lmao. maybe it's because there are so many deep mysteries in AoT, the whole fandom saw Levi and Mikasa being OP and were like "oh okay they're related. anyway wtf is going on with titans in the walls" and just never thought more about the Ackermann connection lol
It also seems like they have similar fighting styles as well. Ruthless over the top violence, and the fact both kinda resort to attacking someone when there's even a small reason to.
In the origin story of Levi, Kenny is narrating how he met Levi. We knew Kenny’s name was Ackerman. But, Levi didn’t know. Kenny says he was going to go see his sister. Finds her dead, and then raises Levi enough to take care of himself. Not knowing that Kenny was actually related to him. That was the first clue that Levi was an Ackerman. Also, Kenny stated how much contention came with being attached to the name, Ackerman. And reiterates this when Levi says his name is “Just Levi”. This was way before Levi reveals he’s an Ackerman.
Episode 41 has one of my favorite scenes which is the one with Erwin and Nile. Erwin knows these people well (all the people within the walls as well) so when he asks about Nile's family (which he knows by name) but he mistakenly (I think on purpose) say The Stohess District as to where they live. Nile corrects him and says Wall Rose and that he hasn't seen them in quite awhile says that they should be ok but realizes he really has no idea, and even ask why Erwin asked that. I think it was to get Nile to think of them and and to think of Wall Rose specifically because in the coming coup they will name Wall Rose as being breached. I think Erwin even knew that it has been some time since he has seen his family as well and with all that has been going on they might not be in the forefront of his thoughts. Erwin simply asking about them put them there so when the shock of hearing about the breach his thoughts will go directly to them....Erwin is by far my favorite character in the show and scenes like this are exactly why. Keep up the excellent work! Happy New Year everyone!
🤯 Bro that's like, the stealthiest Mafia shakedown I think I've ever seen. Ive watched AoT like 3-4 times now and this is the first I've ever heard this. "Nice family you've got there, Nile... It'd be a shame if I pretended something were to happen to it." lol

I have a Garrison Regiment tattoo. They are the only ones who never became domestic terrorists. As a regiment, they were the ones who never hurt other humans and only worked towards fighting titans.
one of the things I liked the most about AOT is that even after they overthrew the dinosaur government, things didn't magically become good and they lived in peace ever after, what happened is what usually happen IRL when governments are overthrown the people go bonkers and crime becomes rampant and ambitious evil people take power.
I also have a vague memory of knowing Levi was an Ackerman before the anime revealed it. Not only did I not read the manga, I also didn't watch season 2 onward until after season 3 concluded, so I'm also curious how this came about 🤔
@@Koroto I think the author left really good clues. When Kenny is revealed, I think they call him an Akerman (when Kenny is talking to his dad, maybe?), and Levi is the son of Kenny's sister which is also revealed earlier. Having Levi confirm he's an Akerman is the writer's way of explicitly pointing it out if you missed the clues.
Levi being an Ackerman was a big manga spoiler. I remember it happening between season 1 and 2, and it being shocking, but then everyone was like "yeah that makes sense" and quickly moved on.
Happy New Years! Hope this means you're feeling better. Really quick as I haven't even finished, but I LOVE the Aot/Erwin "Trolley Problem" slide! I apologize if I missed it earlier but thanks for not explaining it and trusting us to understand. (To be clear that definitely was not sarcasm- it's impossible to pin down in one statement what makes my favorite shows like AOT and ATLA but a big part is that they don't talk down and spell everything out to us, instead trusting us to understand things. LOL on the other hand I guess that's why I have to spend so many hours watching "over-analyze" videos to fully understand everything that is going on. 😉😂)
Koroto, you're the best, did you know that? Now my first day of 2024 is just perfect ❤ I hope this year brings you everything your heart may wish for and that you'll find healing and peace
I think it's because if you google the show/manga at all now, his character name is just listed as such. I don't remember if you discussed this in previous videos but early on people couldn't even agree on whether he was "Levi" or not. (RIP Rivaille)
Funny thing, first time I was watching this as it came out, when they named dropped Levi Ackerman I didn't even realize it was a reveal because I always assumed he was an Ackerman. I think the biggest issue here is that early in the series they make it clear that japanese people are rare and basically you only have the Ackermans, and the only Ackerman left alive was Mikasa.... So when another asian guy shows up, it makes sense for us to assume they are related. Matter of fact, I always thought it was weird how Levi and Mikasa never acknowledge each other (until I realized they didn't know and it was meant to be a big reveal).
Hi there👋 About the Mandela effect with Levi's name. I've been living in Japan since 2015 and I remember that they put Levi's last name on a ton of merch during that time (for anime merch I think they might have waited until after season 3, not sure). It's a common thing, for e.g. most of the Detective Conan merch that features characters who have secret identities has well.. the name of that very identity on it lol. I'd believe that if you googled Levi sometime after season one when the manga already revealed his name, you would find his full name in wiki's etc. (Let's face it we had a lot of time to google after each season lol).
You pointing out that Levi's Ackerman heritage was never revealed until the royal government arc totally blew my mind actually. Back when I first got into the anime in 2015 I also kind of just...knew Levi was an Ackerman & therefore related to Mikasa? I didn't read the manga then either and I absolutely cannot remember how I obtained this knowledge, it totally feels like I just had it from the start. I guess it must have just been common information spread by the manga readers to the point even all the anime onlys knew. Just for the heck of it I went to check out the official guidebooks as well. The first two guidebooks (inside & outside) came out in early-mid 2013, so a few months before the royal government arc started in the manga. Those guidebooks only refer to Levi by his first name as well. It's only starting the third guidebook from 2016 (answers) that the Ackerman family is explicitly discussed in more detail + the confirmation that Levi, Mikasa and Kenny are in fact all related. So, yeah, I guess that really was supposed to be a plottwist that somehow went over everybody's head...pretty funny.
I could honestly swear that his surname was common knowledge even when the first season was around, even prior to being revealed in the manga. This is messing with my head 🥲
Erwin could've brought up Nile's family into discussion because it's been hinted at throughout the story that Erwin and Nile used to like the same girl when they were in the Training Corps. Erwin chose to pursue his dream and join the Scouts and that actually was Nile's initial plan as well, but Nile gave up on his dream for love/starting a family. Erwin could've used this to maybe pull on his heartstrings a bit, beside the imminent danger that Wall Rose could fall any day.
@@Koroto thank you so much for your work 😭. This anime was my first anime 10 years ago (when I was in 4th grade ) so I’m so emotionally attached to this show
21:39 as for the Levi Akermann thing one of the info cards says his full name when introducing the Levi squad but that’s the only time it says his full name until season 3
Just wanted to say I found your channel found these videos and I’ve been binging them brother they’re so so good and such a joy to watch!! As I’m typing this comment I just finished the final episode (dubbed ofc) and I hope you continue this series and I can’t wait to catch up all the way. Also I cannot flex enough that AOT was the first anime I ever watched and is the best anime I have and will ever watch. I’m so happy I found it last year and didn’t have to wait 10 years for this moment 😂 just a few months. But yeah man keep up the good work I love the videos!
The same thing with Levi happened to me with Reiner and Ymir being titans: I just kinda… knew? Like I don’t remember who told me or where I read it or what but I just remembered being told that they were cousins and the others were titans (I’m old enough to remember when Ymir was still the “dancing titan”)
I was a manga reader, and I feel like I always knew Levi was an Ackerman. I know I didn't get that info from a spoiler either, since I was reading the manga chapters as they were being released before the chapter with this hint was released. I don't know, maybe it was just a popular fan theory that I had just assumed was known canon already.
To me, seeing levi being related to mikasa was a zero surprise moment. A very common troupe is two powerhouses being related in some way (friends, actual blood and so on) just fit here. Not only that, but it's like both of them contained some strange power that only the other had. Not an actual power, but similar abilities.
Im pretty sure in some after credits scene that Ymir let the pigs go voluntarily! Although i dont remember in what episode i saw it, i strucked me, as Ymir trully aspired for freedom
I was looking through behind the voice actors on first watch through years ago and Levi’s name was Levi Ackermann. I thought it was strange that he shared a name with Mikasa and figured they were related but I also didn’t realize it wasn’t common knowledge until this scene
Levi's last name was out when season one was airing. I cannot remember if it was on the website, merch, or what, but it was fairly common knowledge. I specifically remember when I started watching it around ep. 15 or so. The first one I watched was the one with Erens tribunal, Levi kicking the shit out of him was the first thing I brought up to the friend who recommended it. I remember spending an evening with said friend playing Minecraft and we probably spent an hour or so trying to figure out if Levi was Mikasas older brother, cousin, or they just had the same last name. So his name was definitely out there. My best guess is one of the official sites or some merch had it on there.
It took me 3 watches to pick up that this was the 1st time they revealed Levi's last name. I think I had his last name spoiled without knowing it was a spoiler because I also believe I always knew him as Levi Ackerman.
Same here, I somehow always knew that Levi was an Ackerman, I think it might be from googling him and then seeing his last name, but I have no distinct memory of when exactly I found out, just that I thought he might be Mikasa's older brother. Maybe the Founder is messing with our minds.
no yeah ur right for some reason everyone already knew levi was an ackerman despite the big reveal i did a few research and apparently its because of the large gap between the manga and the anime before the anime caught up The chapter of Levi's name reveal was dropped somewhere in 2014 so by a year the manga is alr in season 3 while attack on titan is still in season 1 the anime only managed to catch up by 2018 and yeah thats a big gap from 2014
I knew Levi was an Ackerman but I'm not certain were it came from. I just heard it from a bunch of friends. My best guess if it wasn't a Manga Spoiler is that the Community noticed the shared black hair and the clear parralels between Mikasa and Levi so it kinda became a urban legend and self runner but that's me working backwards from the Assumption it wasn't a spoiler and wasn't stated on Twitter or in the cliff notes of the Manga
10:42 I do agree with this generally as everyone should work to reduce their footprint but shifting the blame to individuals instead of nations or corporations really does not help and only serves the interests of the people who actually are doing the harm Because the contribution of the general population to climate change is so astronomically irrelevant compared to what corporations do
Good thing someone said it so I don't have to. The idea that individual lifestyle changes are enough to even slightly mitigate the problem is one that you have to be completely ignorant of the facts to believe.
I could almost be convinced to swear on my life that it was common knowledge even back in season 1 that he was an Ackerman. I remember that some people used to ship Levi and Mikasa (god knows why) and other people would be like "Um, don't do that, they're related". And I don't believe the manga had reached the reveal then?I could be wrong though. I started reading the manga soon after the first season as I was sick of waiting to find out what happened next and I don't remember being shocked when the revelation that he was an Ackerman finally appeared. It could just be that I've known the series so long that my brains got it confused.
9:08 I love this series so much I would be down for over analyzing attack on Titan 9 squared 😅 With book sources, if you look at like philosophy and psychological part of war
Ackermans are known to be powerful combatants who have absolutely no issue just going and doing a task, even if others struggle. Of COURSE Mikasa and Levi were Ackermans. I feel like when we learned about it, most of us just went "Oooooh so that's why they do the amazing things they do that literally no one else are capable of in this insane place" and just moved on.
Levi is an Ackerman based on pure vibes alone. Maybe it is because of manga spoilers leaking its way into the community but I was 0% surprised that Levi and Mikasa were somehow related.
I think a lot of people got subconsciously spoiled about the Levi Ackerman thing because the people who DID know were just using it willy-nilly in their posts and even as the name of some dedicated profiles. Both of which I had seen during times before the reveal and in reactor (I know I know, boo me as much as you'd like) communities that hadn't yet reached that point
I swear to god, Levi had been called Levi Ackerman at SOME point before this. I swear. Sure he is mostly referred to by just his first name. But wtf. I always knew he was an Ackerman. Now I'm just mind boggled.
We all got hit with the Mandela Effect with Levi being an Ackerman by the Founding Titan years ago

Happy 2024 everyone! Hopefully with more Koroto in our lives
You are feeding my obsession of attack on titan after getting back into it. Keep over analyzing PLEASE
Glad you're enjoying it! Don't worry, we're going all the way to the end! 😤
@@Koroto thank you so much for your work 😭. This anime was my first anime 10 years ago (when I was in 4th grade ) so I’m so emotionally attached to this show
Next part over analysis boy😤(nah seriously tho I appreciate this series so much thanks for your hard work man, this series always makes my day❤)
this video is an absolutely wonderful year to start 2024 !!!
21:39 as for the Levi Akermann thing one of the info cards says his full name when introducing the Levi squad but that’s the only time it says his full name until season 3
I just binged all of these today and felt quite sad about getting to the end
Can’t believe I’m all caught up on this series I am frothing at the mouth for more
Still loving this series, can’t wait to see more!
Finally a new episode, thanks for the hard work my G
🙇
Huh. I also knew that Levi was an Akerman from the beginning. Must be attack titan shenanigans!
Happy New Year, Koroto!
Levi’s foot punching through that MP’s teeth still gets me💀
The same thing with Levi happened to me with Reiner and Ymir being titans: I just kinda… knew? Like I don’t remember who told me or where I read it or what but I just remembered being told that they were cousins and the others were titans (I’m old enough to remember when Ymir was still the “dancing titan”)
Happy New year. Thanks for all ur work so far. I really love to listen to ur overanalising while doing chores or other stuff. Keep up the great work
I was a manga reader, and I feel like I always knew Levi was an Ackerman.
Not an actual power, but similar abilities.
it’s a good day when koroto uploads 🌅🌅
Best new years gift ever.
They say whatever you do on new year's day, you'll do plenty of it in the whole year. So i hope I'll get to watch a lot of these videos ❤
Happy New year
Your videos are really good and I can't wait for you to get to Season 4
Samies about Levi being Ackerman I knew it before watching and reading. And when they showed this I was like didn't know I have to shocked
I never knew levi was an Ackerman until then on my first watch through.
YEAH BABY KOROTOS UPLOAD WHAT A WAY TO START 2024 :DDD
I love these analysis you do on aot keep them up happy new year 😁👍🎉
i love these retrospectives, keep em coming
btw thank you for not having giant intro and outro parts lol loveu
In the end credits of the TV show Levi has always been listed as Levi Ackerman. It made the supposed reveal of his name in the episode awkward
i cant get over "council of dinosaurs"
IT'S TRUE THOUGH
@@KorotoI prefer the 5 elder clowns 🤡
Happy new year Krotos.
Please bring up the dub roar during Tyber's Declaration please
Same here, I somehow always knew that Levi was an Ackerman, I think it might be from googling him and then seeing his last name, but I have no distinct memory of when exactly I found out, just that I thought he might be Mikasa's older brother. Maybe the Founder is messing with our minds.
25:44 fun thing he tied differently in manga with his one arm tying him kinda weird idea but in manga they tied his wrist 😅
Straight fire series
Looking forward Shiganshina and Liberio and Final Episode
21:31 yeah same... don't know how I knew but I knew
Anime only, didn't even watch the OVA's
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY NEW YEAR BBG0RLS
Thanks for your channel, it’s great. Thank you for the effort you put into your work.
🗣️🔉NEW YEAR 🎉 NEW VID 🥳
no yeah ur right for some reason everyone already knew levi was an ackerman despite the big reveal
i did a few research and apparently its because of the large gap between the manga and the anime before the anime caught up
The chapter of Levi's name reveal was dropped somewhere in 2014 so by a year the manga is alr in season 3 while attack on titan is still in season 1
the anime only managed to catch up by 2018 and yeah thats a big gap from 2014
Great as always!
Keep it up whit this my friend, i love it
I did not knew that Levi was Ackerman be4 Kenny mentioning that
I knew Levi was an Ackerman but I'm not certain were it came from.
I swear it was stated somewhere
Like even when I was a kid, I knew he was an Ackerman
Happy new year Koroto, love watching your videos :D
Dude, same! I swear i knew he was an ackerman in season 1
10:42 I do agree with this generally as everyone should work to reduce their footprint but shifting the blame to individuals instead of nations or corporations really does not help and only serves the interests of the people who actually are doing the harm
Because the contribution of the general population to climate change is so astronomically irrelevant compared to what corporations do
Good thing someone said it so I don't have to. The idea that individual lifestyle changes are enough to even slightly mitigate the problem is one that you have to be completely ignorant of the facts to believe.
Literally almost died drunk and would’ve missed this
Love this series
I could almost be convinced to swear on my life that it was common knowledge even back in season 1 that he was an Ackerman. I remember that some people used to ship Levi and Mikasa (god knows why) and other people would be like "Um, don't do that, they're related". And I don't believe the manga had reached the reveal then?I could be wrong though. I started reading the manga soon after the first season as I was sick of waiting to find out what happened next and I don't remember being shocked when the revelation that he was an Ackerman finally appeared.
It could just be that I've known the series so long that my brains got it confused.
Always look forward to your AOT uploads. Keep up the good work korotos.
9:08 I love this series so much
I would be down for over analyzing attack on Titan 9 squared 😅
With book sources, if you look at like philosophy and psychological part of war
I cant believe you got a new kitten named Appa and were disappointed by the lack of Elden Ring DLC release date on december 12th 😔
Actually, I believe Jean was actually referring to Marko and not Eren considering that their name's are similar and they look alike
My favourite anime and and a amazing youtber
