- Hi Guys, welcome back to the channel.
My first time celebrating Chinese New Year in the countryside and we got freaked out by two things! Take a look and see what you think. Yes, we were stupid to go in there🤣.
Guys, I have been so busy the last few days, but i still wanted to get a video out for you so i just did a voiceover. Is it as bad as I think? Or is this the kind of thing you guys like? Please let me know in the comments below. More face to camera commentary or is this kind of voiceover ok?
Thank you for visiting our channel.
We are based in China, Sichuan, Chengdu, please comment with any questions/comments on where to go, travel, eat and explore.

Danger in Chinese countryside? Is your life in danger of getting killed, shot, assaulted, robbed...?
扯淡呢?
Or Drugs..lol
In China some people follow folk religion they have these shrines with idols of deities that is what it was on that abandoned endangered place
You're in Sichuan where ancestral shrines are rare. That structural endangered shrine is a temple for villagers to pray for wealth, fortune and health. Better drink that wine with locals to keep warm and try local dishes, this makes a proper new year celebration with yours.
Warm family 👍🏻👍🏻 togetherness is gold, peaceful village life
Cheers buddy👍
This is really countryside, which is not often seen in more developed area. I remember when I was little, there is still countryside for my family to go to celebrate new years, dragon festivals etc., in which you would find similar spatial structure in houses, similar giant wok, and field with many plants and vegetables. Very unique experiences for many urban residents in nowadays, really fascinating to see these again!
In term of danger, l can't wait Toby coming back to Chengdu and joining gooners in red and white for the Premier League title race 🏆with noisy neighbours in blue shirts at the only proper English pub-Leg & Whistle in Ke Hua Street!
Where are you on that day? 😂
I could still remember how it feels like when l was one of these gooners shouting loudly against united fans over here when Rooney was lethal and bald.
Haha, yes! The Leg and Whistle has a great atmosphere! I’ve seen quite a few FA cup wins there😉
Keep going Toby nice vlog, China still has many place to go for adventure
Thank you! So much more to see and do👍
The kitchen is huge
the only danger here is you
How am I Dangerous?😂
Very rural, this is the countryside.
Most of Chinese people don't have heating in their home.
In the cities, they used to have air conditioner for the heatwave but not for the cold.
It is a choice and i presume there is a reason behind this. Probably a pragmatic and practical reason.
If it is cold, just put more clothes and sheets as we see in this video 😅
In Europe, it costs us a leg to heat our house. But we still do it, because we are used to do this.
It is the same in China, they are not used to have heating so they still continue to do so. Such is life 🙃
Absolutely, especially in Sichuan. For a lot of people they just wear more clothes in the winter, rather than turning heating systems on. Also I was surprised when I first arrived here many years ago that people keep their coats on and in extreme weather even their hats and gloves on inside.
中国以秦岭和黄河为界,北方有供暖公司集中供暖;南方家庭采用空调和电炉冬天采暖。

Where are ancestral shrines more common? I did try the local drink😜😂
Could be the coastal part of Mainland like Canton where Mandarin doesn't prevail or southeastern Asia like Peninsular Malaysia😄@@MrWANGSGREATADVENTURE
@@XinWang-t5c got it thanks, certainly have seen many different types of shrines in Guangdong and Fujian. Like 妈祖
WOW! You know so much of Chinese Mainland.
You are a proper Sichuanese gentleman😁
Is there any English bar to enjoy premier league title race and pints in Chengdu?
@@XinWang-t5c haha, thank you! Yes, of course. Get yourself to the Leg and Whistle👍
Big house like this in country side can worth $ hundreds thousand in near future
Nope
It is not the city
Interesting video. Although I live in Thailand, I have seen the interiors of a lot of the homes of Thai and Thai-Chinese people. They tend to be extremely junky. Why is that? I know all homes aren't picture perfect, but after a while, it looks a bit sloppy when you have piles of stuff sitting around, unmade beds, stuff scattered on kitchen counters in disorganized fashion, etc. No offense to the people in this video. I would have the same reaction for anyone living like this, regardless of culture. But it seems to be a big thing here.
Thanks for the comment Kathy. I’d be super interested to see More of Thailand and how Thai people live. I think here it is because although they are not suing those things on a daily basis they are using them regularly so perhaps that is why they don’t put them away and another thing I just thought of, at least in that house- I didn’t see any storage space, apart from a a few wardrobes for clothes, no dedicated storage place (unless you count the kitchen before the kitchen part). But I still think they are house proud, do you remember I asked if I could film upstairs? She said wait until she tidied up…
Probably too busy or have other priorities?
Are you using some kind of weird filter
No, just made it all brighter😅
Those may be image figures of local people's ancestors or local gods which they worship as deities, nevertheless as usual, worshipping of any kind including all religions are nothing but superstition.
That makes sense. I think someone mentioned “local gods”.
@@MrWANGSGREATADVENTURE
The clay figures in the small stand on the side of the steps are called local earth gods.
@@Anonymous------ thank you👍
What a dump.
Some really nice houses amongst the older ones. But people tend to decorate pretty modestly in the countryside😂
I live in China Noddy. I know how it rolls. It doesn't excuse the fact that this is a dump.@@MrWANGSGREATADVENTURE
@@MrWANGSGREATADVENTURE Nope
Most people prefer ro have their money on the bank insttead on the wall like my father in law say
@@analieninchina you can live in China but you do not understand nothing about the chinese people and how they think
And you do right? lol @@yourdeal2408
