Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

As a long time breeder I’d either cut the line or sell Duchess and keep two of her doelings and grow them out.
You are at the point in your breeding program you must have those attachments.
I’ve so appreciated your hybrid method routine explained for this visual learner.
Don’t hate me. I’d cut the line, you have mamas you’ve improved with more qualities you desire. Wednesday’s udder really is the dream! That’s what you’ve worked for. 🎉 I’d keep kids over mamas or leave space to bring in new lines. I appreciate you have invested time & money. You’re looking at two years down the road- if she gives you a doe next year before you would know if her kids have improvements. She would make a great milker on a farm, you know she’s a good mama too. It’s a personal decision, I’m focusing on udder alone, we have personal attachments & you have plans too & know what improvements you are achieving elsewhere. Now you have those traits in your herd you want, I hate to say I’d be more ruthless in my decisions. ❤

Wednesday was out of River who was bought and not born on their farm. Wednesday is a not one of Dannelle bloodlines. Both of her parents were bought.
It could be fun to keep trying but I wouldn't do more than one more generation & maybe just the one girl that seems best.
Otherwise yeah I'd focus more on the better line. Definitely try getting some does from Wednesday at least.
But also cutting the line might be best especially if you get a chance at some better quality doelings to bring in soon.
Duchess needs to be sold.

I have to admit, Wednesday wasn’t initially my favorite, but as she’s gotten older I’m falling in love with her personality and now how incredible she is with the kids and milking?! Also, I know you said you were going to keep a wether to use to know when the does go into heat.. it would be so funny if you kept Simon and it would be “Simon says Daphne is ready to be bred!” 🤣
Wednesday is lovely, and I'm glad she's staying and can't wait to see how her line goes! She's such a sweet momma.

She definitely is. She is from a completely new bloodline to the farm. Both of her parents were purchased in the last 2 years. I think that is why Danelle is questioning whether it is worth trying to improve certain bloodlines when she could start new amazing bloodlines like she did with Wednesday.
I like all of the babies, but my favorite has to be eleanor❤
I know it was kind of a bummer for Wednesday's babies to all be bucklings, but it must be admitted that it does make it a lot easier to sort out which babies belong to which mama. But with an udder like hers, that might help make her sons desirable as potential breeding bucks?
I believe Simon & Alvin have been sold as potential breeding bucks. Theo is not.

Sell Duchess, assess the three girls as they grow for signs of better width. If any of them seem to have improved width then keep them, if not then sell the line.

For me personally, I would sell Duchess. I would keep her widest daughter to see if Pokey fixed the width, but if you start seeing her becoming narrow, I would sell her as well. Just my opinion. I know you’ll make the best decision for your herd. ❤

Yeah, I don't have high enough attachments either, and so now that I'm in my sixties, I gotta be sure to strap up first thing in the morning or I'll be walkin' on the girls by breakfast.

Wednesday has always been my fave b/c it's one of my favorite series & she is just so perfect, pretty, sweet, kidded w/out any trouble, & now we find out she's got it all. What a gem!! It's so funny to hear you speaking ratuously about udders, makes me giggle just a little!
Duchess was definitely my favorite, but I agree that she's a little narrow! Honestly though, I think her udder is gorgeous - a little high attached, but isn't her fore udder pretty? And it looks so soft and capacious. I'd definitely keep one of her kids, were I you, just to see if Pokey fixed her narrowness! And heck, if I had the funds I would absolutely take Duchess off your hands 😂😂She's got a lot of really nice qualities, but I do agree that Wednesday is better in a lot of ways. Wednesday's udder is dang near perfect, woohoo!!! So exciting!

Kevin reminds me of my stepdad, when I was a kid we had a horse farm and my stepdad used his old Ford fiesta as a tractor😂 once we went to collect lumber and he strapped a couple of trees to the roof of the fiesta and we all had to walk next to the car all the way home because it was dragging on the ground
It would have been interesting to see you raise up Alvin and breed him to Daphne or Reba since you know Wednesday’s udder is amazing and see how the babies look🤔😋. I think you raise up one of Duchess’ doelings and see if any improvements or not if not then cut that line

I really think having your Doe kid at different time really helps with the hybrid method. It allows you guys to spend a little more time with each instead of trying to rush and finish a huge group of kids

Honestly I hope we some more consistency in Daphne kid especially since she is phenomenal but out of the 4 girl she have, only one ended up be a high quality doe which is Reba. Even though duchess didn’t have that big of an improvement, I still can see that she did have an improvement over wynonna in rear udder height and side attachment. Thank you to Lancelot. Duchess seem to be very dairy and combine with pokey width, it will hopefully make some fantastic kid.❤

All babies are precious. My favorites are Theodore and Eleanor. They were my favorite chipmunk and chipet when the cartoons were still on tv.
Wasn't a big Chipmunk fan, but I LOVE Elinor and Theodore! Been my favorites since birth. Wednesday is definatly a keeper. Wasn't too sure about her as a "little" but she has grown up to be amazing.

It's AlleeJo. When you were bringing the mamas to the babies, Cricket was standing right outside of the fence like, "I wanna be in there." I love Cricket. With the boy triplets, I like Alvin the best. With the girl triplets, I like Eleanor the best. I have no idea why. And DaNelle, if you think it's cold there, I think you should come to Utah. It's usually in the teens in the morning!

While I can see that Duchess does have some faults like her udder attachment and being a little less wide than the ideal, I think she has some merits as well, like her udder capacity, nice general body conformation and soft udder. That said, I think that you should sell Duchess and keep the nicest looking one (or maybe two) of her doelings; I think there’s a lot of potential in them thanks to Pokey’s genetics! I’m sure whatever you end up deciding will be the right choice for your herd though!

WOW, Wednesday is excelling all around, between her mothering skills, her willingness to nurse a kid that wasn’t hers (maybe a future foster mom if needed), her cooperation to be milked by you, and now her perfect udder … it looks you have scored a royal winner with her! She is a definite keeper! Sorry Duchess, because I know you have the more regal name, but you would be moving on to a new kingdom. Hopefully, 🤞🏽 Pokey improved the line. ❤
I have to agree Eleanor *is* super precious-- but she's thin again! Brittany is much wider, which might be what you need. I am not a goat expert though, take with salt XD
Soap doesn't stay on your skin long enough for it to really have benefits.
On that note I still purchase her soap, because I can.
With Wednesday, you could also use her for if a mama rejects a baby maybe you could get Wednesday to take in babies In the future, shes very sweet and I think she would make a great temporary mom for any kids that may get rejected but I also don’t have goats so I don’t know how they work 😂

It will be interesting to see what you get from your AI. Maybe keep one of Dutchess’ babies and try AI for width and udder. They’re all so cute!
It won’t be a guaranteed that her baby would be an improvement when it comes to AI. It also kind of a waste on her, it’s better to AI a doe that is higher quality and having a higher chance of their kid being high quality as well.

I really like Duchess, if you get rid of her I think you should keep one of her girls. I know you can't go off of who we like, but it would be a bit sad to see her leave. I think you should do what you think is best for your herd. Nobody in this comment section is going to know them like you do!

If the blue eye kid have the same narrow rump as duchess don't you think it won't be responsible? I mean for breeders they prioritize the body conformation over colors and eye colors.

I have bought four bars from her just evening. I have a sliver of my last goat bar I bought last year I think left and I’m still using it. It’s only about half inch and half long. Hopefully they think they’ll be here 23 either the fourth or the fifth, so I won’t actually run out. I use it for my hands because in the cold Bridget air of Kansas your skin crack leads, and this keeps mine from not cracking And bleeding.
When I was breeding chickens for FFA a great mentor once told me that you always breed the animal infront you, pedigree comes second but always make decisions based on the animal inform of you

It was cracking me up seeing Duchess Scoot to the end of the Stanchion, My Dog Bindi (We Self Groom Them) She's a Scottish Terrier Will Do ANYTHING To stop being shaved once she Tried jumping of the grooming table and Ended up hanging herself by the neck, And last time We groomed her she fainted in my arms🤣🤣

I would definitely sell Duchess and keep her daughters (one, two, or all of them) only long enough to see if they develop the width you're looking for. If their udders aren't an improvement, they should be sold, too. I think Wednesday is a stunning example of very good intentional breeding for quality! I don't have goats, but have been watching for quite some time (several goatie channels) and I must say at the beginning of the video, Wednesday was the clear winner of the udder competition.
