Dave henderson and the clutch hits, without him they dont even make the world series same with bill Buckner who was a very solid major leaguer during his career
86 was my first full redsox season. Had the standings clipped every day from the first spring training game thru game 7. Will never forget hendus homer while sitting in the car outside an arcade next to whalom park in lunenberg...
It's sad the frustration of the title drought is what made some guys like Buckner go through hell all those years but so glad to see where the Sox are now and that Buckner had came back to Fenway and was celebrated again before he passed because what he went through was awful but this team will always be in red Sox nation hearts forever and should be remembered
What brings fans to the Red Sox is partly due to their intriguing history along the way. The 86 team built this franchise even more and has a special place in Red Sox history. We all think of those tragic losses in the WS, Games 6 and 7, but should also remember the incredible comeback against the Angels. Before Dave Henderson died, I walked by him in a press box before a Mariners exhibition game in Las Vegas as he was a TV commentator. I said, "Dave, I'm a Red Sox fan, and thank you for those home runs back in 86." His response was, "Man, that was 20 years ago." I said, "Dave, you know us Boston fans don't forget." He smiled and laughed. Glad I made him smile, because he all made us smile that year.
Buckner never deserved that level of negative attention for the error at the end of game 6. Carter had led an unbelievable comeback rally with an incredible two-out, two-strike at bat. The lead was already lost and the game was tied when the Buckner play occurred. Championships are made on efforts, not errors. You have to just tip your cap to Gary Carter and move on.
More sad than mad, I was 30 years old and these were my boys. Play battled all season long came up short in the last game. All the thrills they gave us that year but there was no cherry on the top of the Sunday. I'm not sad for them now because they were all great to me and still are.
Boy, I forgot about many of these ball players I use to watch as a kid growing up in the 80's and collecting their Baseball Cards. My Father was a huge Yaz 8 fan, and loved the Boston Red Sox.
Been a redsox fansince july 1985. Ive only ever prayed during a game twice....once with dave roberts leading off first base and once with hendu facing donnie moore.
The Angels were only 1 strike away from eliminating the Red Sox and advancing to the 1986 World Series. However, before they could do that, Dave Henderson hit a go-ahead 2-run home run off Donnie Moore in the top of the 9th inning to give the Red Sox a 6-5 lead, leaving the Angels and all their fans in shock.
Costa Zambaras ok bud. I’m sure that if that happened to your team, you’d be upset. But if you remember, everyone forgave and forgot. Stop living in the past, look towards the future. And maybe google what hypocritical means...
@Costa Zambaras Anyone who actually watched game 6 didn't blame Buckner. That game was already lost by the time he made that error. The media generated the myth by playing his error over and over and I believe it was only people who didn't see the actual game but just that lone highlight that blamed him.
Growing up I used to fantasize about watching the Mets in the World Series and the Giants in the Super Bowl and I always dreamed about them facing the Redsox and the Denver Broncos not because I hated them (That venom was for the Yankees and Cowboys) but because the Redsox (because of the 75 Series) and the Broncos (because of 1977 and former Giant Qb Craig Morton) because I wanted my second favorite teams (Even though Redsox were technically third after the Midnight Massacre ) to go as far as they could without beating the Mets and Giants.
The player on the 86' Red Sox that impressed me the most was their second baseman Ron Jeremy. Did u know he had a pretty solid baseball career but an even spectacular porn career. Talk about versatility. Wow!!!!!
Oil Can pitched 0.5 innings in that series He was chased in the 1st inning of game 3 and was supposed to start game 7. Instead of bringing him in in relief he sat out the whole game. Will never understand that move
Oil Can pitched 7 innings in Game 3 and was not effective. If I had the choice of Bruce Hurst on short rest or Oil Can I'd take Hurst. Oil Can threw such a fit I don't think they were comfortable putting him out there during game 7
Just a coincidence. Some big hits/plays in the 04, 07 and 13 LCS that went 7 games made the difference. Their regular season record wasn't that important.
"Fun fact"... I never gambled in the joint, but being it was baseball, and I'm a met fan, that Red Sox was gonna win world series in 2003?.. 04?... I think 2004 , against"The Yankees",, when they had to win every game... Seemingly "impossible",... Well, fate and the odds, yielded to my will... Every Latin King 👑 in the N. Y. D. O. c was a "diehard" Yankee fan.... I had a long shit eating grin, about 15 sleeves o"f Top tobacco, (plus all the angry inmates "evil eye"... Oh how I relish that memory!!.. Wade Boggs best spray hitters of the day... did he eat "fried 🐔🍗", before every game??? 🤗
Ya know all these yrs later and its a shame that BUCKNER took so much of that loss, when if u really wanna place blame,u better start with the BULLPEN cuz the game shouldnt have been that close!!
Yea that's gotta be strange. Celebrating an epic collapse ? I think trashing Mets fans was sour grapes. I only feel bad for Buckner when he was a victim of horrid relief pitching particularly shiraldi. Then to pitch him again in Game 7 was stupid. It was only game 6 & tied. I think the Mets were destined b/c they constantly came back from behind in the late innings. They had that killer instinct & the red sox just didn't.
What do you remember about the 1986 Red Sox?
Clemens and how great Bill really was as an all around player
Dave henderson and the clutch hits, without him they dont even make the world series same with bill Buckner who was a very solid major leaguer during his career
Tom seaver
Oh ya can't forget Don Baylor , it stinks they couldn't use hi him more at shea stadium
Yep

They weren't the best Red Sox team ever but they were my favorite Red Sox team ever!
Been a redsox fansince july 1985. Ive only ever prayed during a game twice....once with dave roberts leading off first base and once with hendu facing donnie moore.
Go Sox!
Amazing!! Good job red soxx
Awesome

Damn that intro with the newspaper hit hard...
RIP Bill Buckner ❤️

@@rainrunner1 Dan Shaughnessy invented the curse of the Bambino. A writer from the Boston Globe. Buckner will always be loved by real Sox fans
tfw a multi billion dollar sports team puts 7 ads in a 47 minute video
😍😍😍😍😍😘😘😍😍red sox
Clemens was the last redsox player to win all star MVP till Pedro in 99 and the jd drew in 2008

I was 3yo watching the Buckner game
Red Sox Coming up-👍-💪
Macnamara is the grady ittle of his era. Forget buckner....why was shiraldi in there for 3 innings?
The player on the 86' Red Sox that impressed me the most was their second baseman Ron Jeremy. Did u know he had a pretty solid baseball career but an even spectacular porn career. Talk about versatility. Wow!!!!!
The year and month I was born October, 1986.
Oh I remember…
Oil Can is looking good. Gator... not as much so.
I got an ad at 36:34.
Dear Oil Can. Get a full night sleep!!
Oil Can pitched 0.5 innings in that series He was chased in the 1st inning of game 3 and was supposed to start game 7. Instead of bringing him in in relief he sat out the whole game. Will never understand that move

Hurst did have 4 shutouts that year with a 2.99 era
86 red sox bullpen was a bit weak overall.
Al nipper with a 5.38 era that year 10-12 with 2 complete games 159 I.p.
Wade boggs had a .939 ops and a 157ops+
15:05 - "The are some good things that are going to happen to this ballclub" Are you kidding? Did you watch the World Series?
Almost as many oeople at the consolation parade as at the patriots first superbowl parade
Since 2004 any sox team that has won 96 or more games has won the world series. Note how 86...like 75 2003 and 2008 falls short at 95
Just a coincidence. Some big hits/plays in the 04, 07 and 13 LCS that went 7 games made the difference. Their regular season record wasn't that important.
The 86 Celtics won also
Patriots in SB earlier that year.

Good thing hendu didnt take april 29th personally

yes Bob stanley is the one to blame he gave up the tying run
9:56 least he got the out
No question for 'roid-rage Rog about coming out of game 6 ?
Good Question. I'd like to hear his answer, although Johnny Mac insists he asked out.
Or Roger Clemens....
Who threw the fastest pitch,??.. I don't want to ask Google!!!... I'm askin the old fashioned way!!! 🤗... I'ma say "Nolan Ryan"!!!
Or Randy Johnson
Funny they build up the first game and the first pitch and they lost
First
Terrible way to start...
They had a loser’s parade?! Ha
We were just practicing for next 12 Championship parades
The 1995 Indians did the same thing
