Love that 88 team. People forget in the Red Sox-Yankee rivalry history, the teams had a pennant race the Sox won, taking 5 of 7 late in the year, including an incredible 10-9 win on a September Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
Remember that game went to bed early....woke up for the comeback...at that point at 14 I still didn't grasp *the rivalry* Ruth 1918 ect...really didn't get that till 95 when again we won the race against them...
Amazing. I was there in 3rd base box seats that night on July 20th when Joseph Cullen pulled off that stunt. It was one of the most incredible things I have ever seen. Never forget it. Pretty sure it wasn’t planned either. His friends were cheering him on. It seemed to be a drunken dare. The place was going mad. And then he made it and jumped up and down on the screen. Legendary.
Firing Morgan after the the 1991 season so they could promote Butch Hobson was one of the dumbest moves ever by Sox management. Right up there with showing Francona the door after 2011's disaster and replacing him with Bobby Valentine.
Betts trade was a good one for the Red Sox and I hate the Red Sox, but ended up with three good players and was a good chance he was never going to re-sign here anyway, plus looks like may be one of those players who can never stay healthy.
This was a fun year to live through
