My great grandfather was Sam Jones prolific right hand pitcher. The Red sox finally presented the 1918 world series award to us in 1993. It sits in my living room to this day
They need to make a movie on this series. Both huge fan bases would attend the theaters. People wondered why their teams never won forever - "The Curse of the 1918 World Series"
Yes I’m 100% convinced the series was fixed. In the testimonies of the 1919 players that had been recently discovered, left Williams said that “we wanted to fix it like the guys did Last year.” Back in that time games were fixed all the time. I would imagine baseball was a little more like big time wrestling than a sport. In fact players caught fixing games were traded. The Cubs wanted to get rid of Max Flax so bad they traded him during the intermission of a double header to the other team.
More both teams did not care that much is more like it. It was not hard to track down payments to fix the 1919 WS. Nothing like that has been proven about 1918.
Nothing proven but lefty Williams statement in his deposition is pretty damming. If this interests you read the original curse, the make a pretty strong cas.@@StanSwan
@@michaelgerhardt7130 I see no case at all. Just claims decades after the fact. It is typical for the Boston media to trash anything Red Sox if you knew their history. Ask David Ortiz about that one.
They needed to do more interviews with the players who participated in the 1918 World Series. I'm sure there have to be at least 10 or 12 of them still alive in some nursing home.
Doubt it most these dudes were born late 1890s pretty sure last person born in 1899 died a few years ago . Tldr : they would be in there 120s , they dead.
Maybe the Curse of the Bambino was actually the result of playing three World Series games in Fenway Park in the middle of the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic.
I met someone from Alabama who was a Red Sox fan. I asked him why? His response, "They have the weirdest history in all of sports, winning five in the early 1900s, then not winning in 86 years but coming so close so many time, and now winning four since 2004."
I mean u can say flack was fixing the series cause he had a bad series...but Joe Jackson obviously took money the next year and hit like 450 in the series...
Still don't get the 95 years at Fenway crap. Seemed like an absurd excuse to try to bring more curse crap that never existed and a drought that ended in st Louis.

74 years to get their pins was absurd. Harry hooper fought for it till his death
Cool

This Red Sox team is history in the making.
This was very cool. I did not know most of the events surrounding the 1918 World Series.
2018 World Series champs!

Absolutely amazing 👏 ⚾️
very cool great video!!
Very interesting and informative.
The 1918 series didnt almost kill baseball. The 1919 one did
8:26 since he won 2 games in the world series hard to think barrow was wrong. On the flip side ruth also hadca 2 run triple im thatvworld series
A baseball game during spanish flu. Thats insane
14:39 he was scuffling cause he hurt his pitching hand goofing around on the train back to boston
posibilidades de ver este video con subtitulos en español
Ironically the decreased crowds should be hailed as inadverdent social distancing during the Spanish flu pandemic
Great video. And I am not a Sox fan.
1:30 covid19 has done what WORLD WAR FUCKING 1 COULD NOT.
Potty mouth.
Clean that up.
And... I... mean... NOW!
Now we can chant 2009
best pitcher ever
2104?
The fan base is too passionate now. It wasn't back in the 1920s and 30s.
@@adamsoboleski6857
The fan base doesn't do jack.
'harry frazee went on a spending spree' lol ironic
I don't get it, he could still hit when he pitched so why did he really not want to pitch?
Barrow was using him in the OF between pitching days. That's hard.

You’re crazy lol
See "Glory of their Times" - Lawrence Ritter. Harry Hooper is in it.

Sox like to win WS in groups of 4. Just hope it’s not another 86 years before they win another. 😆
LOL
Actually...if they repeat the 5 in 16 seasons thing....they go back to back next year
@@scottaznavourian7617 I'll take 5 in 18 instead

People used to chant “1940” at the NY Rangers games.
Psssh. Hockey.
For hockey pucks. 😆
How many of these People thought that this would be last 1 for 86 years
Then after breaking the curse in 2004 another dynasty for the sox was born 86 years later
That's all over.
Hasta la vista.
Yeah I'd rather watch baseball then go to a play...then in 2020 you couldn't do either
Think of what today would be like if we still implimented the work or fight program.
Or just a 'work or don't get jackshit' program.
Ohthani is the new Ruth.
Um, no.
Frazee won a workd series with the redosx. Something yawkey ownership didnt do in almost 70 years
fenway
I mean u can say flack was fixing the series cause he had a bad series...but Joe Jackson obviously took money the next year and hit like 450 in the series...
Joe Jackson wasn’t involved in the fix whatsoever. He was threatened to play worse but he wouldn’t .

The Bruins only won 1 Real Stanley Cup (2011)
So let's totally disregard history. Not happening.

1919 WS was pretty joyless when it was revealed to be a fraud.
