"Fresh air! Fresh air!" If you have been around someone in voluptuous depression, it may lead to "fresh air" ....but I hate to admit it, I do understand it. Do not enter the vortex of the pity party, and do not accept the argument that morality is fundamentally sympathy. If you love this person listen carefully, but set limits. May I never do this myself. ( now. do some people feel pleasure in wrath, or righteousness....)

    What is the epicurean passage?

    Great video - thanks!
So is this degradation the solution to the emptiness that comes with being an intellectual? The toothache/pain is an unquestionable simple sensation which cannot be sliced to nothingness by overthought?
+ would be interested to read the passage from Epicurus.
++ Crime and Punishment outlines the consequences of indulging in degradation. Perhaps it's not the solution!

Thanks for the lesson Dr. Sadler but can you please elaborate on the significance of the title to the novel.

My guilty pleasure, my degradation, is being an existentialist. I cannot escape the embrace of existentialism.

Three units of logic and reason ought to grant you escape.

      A touch melodramatic.

I definitely know people who act like they're in pain or exhausted just to get sympathy

Pleasure is a mistranslation. The word he used is more closer to schadenfreude than pleasure.

Fine - then just say “pleasure in schadenfreude” or whatever locution you need. The rest of us will be ok with pleasure, I expect
