This is the 4th track on their debut album. These guys are 19-20 years of age and they are making music like this. Without a doubt this is one of the best debut albums ever.
Well….yes…..Robert was just 20….Bonzo was 20, yes. Jimmy, however was a very well seasoned studio and band musician by now, at 24….and JPJ a professional studio musician at 22.
When this first Led Zeppelin album was released, the music world was shocked. Something like this had never been heard of in the 1960s. Robert Plant was only 19 years old when he sang on this record. John Bonham, the drummer, was so young too. Jimmy Page played the middle part of Dazed and Confused with a violin bow on the guitar.
In 1976 I was 18, and every week it seemed there were EPIC albums being released. I didn't realize it then but I surely know it now. I grew up in the greatest decade for Rock n Roll,Pop and R&B of all time. Thank you Mom and Dad!
Andre, you may wanna watch out, I think Dominica it’s going to rip off her top during one of these Zepplin songs. Keep an eye on her get the hose out. Love your reaction guys.
Because the music is magic..and I mean real magic. Look to the lore behind the band. You will be compelled to learn more my friends. Enjoy watching you experience the music. I've always loved/ enjoyed Led Zeppelin. I was ten years old when I first was grabbed by the music. I'm 61 now and every time I hear it it's like the first time. Much respect and success.
Helene here…..When I bought this album in the winter of 1969, I was in college. I brought it back to my dorm room, and my roommate and I sat down to listen to it. HOLY COW: we had never heard anything Like this album……especially this song. We had Hendrix and Cream albums, sure…..They could be pretty heavy….but this song especially felt darker…much darker. This song, with its descending instrumental line, reminded me of scary movie and TV soundtracks……music made to create a feeling of apprehension. It totally lives up to its title. Very creative and effective! This was about a year before Black Sabbath came on the scene, so Zeppelin quickly got the reputation of being VERY heavy…and just a bit on the “dangerous” side. Which was cool as far I and my peers were concerned. As a band, they fostered that aura of mystery and darkness…..it made them seem bigger than life., and added to their mystique.
@@craigmeek3363 The concert film by M.S.G. It wasn't a big success and neither the band nor the manager liked it. Plant sings much better here than in the endless 1973 version. th-cam.com/video/CytJvXbFlKU/w-d-xo.html

WOW!!! I/m still blown away by this 57 years after seeing Jimmy Page And The Yardbirds do this song at my very first concert less than a year before he started Led Zep. This recording is spectacular and I loved your enthusiastic reaction to one of the greatest tracks in all of Electric Blues/Rock.
I grew up in Austin, TX., as a child in the late 70's early 80's. I was given this album for Christmas or b-day in third or fourth grade. And Pink Floyd's the Dark side of the Moon, so my mind was blown open early.
What a wonderful world where I can sit here on my lunch break at work watching a beautiful couple from a world away discovering music I've known for 35 years and I can't wipe the smile from my face. Thanx for sharing
There’s obviously a lot of musical influences that help make up Zeppelin’s sound. First off they grew up in a time when so much great music was being made. Blues, jazz, rockabilly, country, funk, motown, folk, not to mention rock that was quickly evolving amongst other musical influences. Jimmy Page was a premier session musician in England, along with John Paul Jones, so they were playing on all sorts of recordings and learning the ins and outs of the studio. You add in Robert Plant and John Bonham with overlapping tastes and well you can start to see how they are so musically diverse and accomplished. When asked what type of music is best for rock musicians to listen too, John Paul Jones replied something along the lines of everything, you never know where you’re going to draw inspiration from.
Dominica looks Dazed and Confused!!! Normal reaction to a first listen. You need to lay back with your headphones on and listen over and over to really appreciate it. 🥰
Yet another great reaction, thanks! I can't begin to count how many times I've listened to Led Zeppelin's albums over the last 50+ years, yet I never get tired of them. They were just brilliant, and I so enjoy watching reactors discovering their music for the first time! :) For comparison purposes, it might be interesting if you reacted to the studio version of "The Rain Song" next. Talk about taking a 180 degree turn from "Dazed and Confused"! I would like to hear what you think of it. It was good that you reacted to the studio version of "Dazed and Confused" first rather than a live performance. They loved to improvise when they performed and this is one song in particular that they'd get very creative with, stretching it this way, then that way. All good, but now you'd be able to recognize just how fabulous they were at improvising if you watch a live version. :) Edit: Not only that, Jimmy Page was a genius in the studio working as their producer. Can't experience just how amazing he was at that if studio versions are skipped. ;)
These guys were 4 master musicians who also had diverse personal musical interests so they could each bring a plethora of musical influences and skill to every song they created. I often tell people that their music is for moods and emotions and I find the same song can hit differently depending on the type of day I had, time of day, etc. I am so glad you're enjoying this journey.
Helene here……I have a suggestion…..Since you are loving Zeppelin so much (and we LOVE watching you discover them) I would suggest that you do what several other reactors have done: start on album one, side one, first track, and move through their discography chronologically. You can skip the songs you’ve already listened to (or perhaps substitute a live version?). You will then be able to see their growth in diversity in real time. Do at least the first 4-5 albums, a d then see if you want to continue. Anyway, it’s just a thought: I love your Zeppelin reactions, and Dominica is “fan-girling “ as much as I did on Robert. Wasn’t he just the most gorgeous young man? 😁 and Andre…..yeah, there were allot of guys who wanted to BE Robert Plant back in the day.
They were hugely diverse in their musical tastes....but what made their diverse catalog possible was their musicianship. They had the freedom to go anywhere they wanted to because they had the talent and desire to go anywhere they wanted to. Try: Rain Song!
I was 16 in 1989, and the family went on a long drive around the US. I rode in the way back of the station wagon facing backwards for 7000 miles or so, and I spent much of that time absolutely wearing out Led Zeppelin I on cassette. To this day I can damn near play the entire album in my head start to finish. For someone who fancied himself a musician in high school, LZ1 was a religious experience for me. It was humbling to listen to, the kind of humbling that can only happen when you're good at something, really good, and then you basically see the face of God. Like, imagine being a sculptor and winning a few awards and then being introduced to Michaelangelo's works. That was the level of impact that album had on me.
Cant even imagine not having this song in my life...one of my fave Zep songs and used to send me swirling my arms and my long curls on the dancefloor every time...
Led Zeppelin can not be categorised as any single genre of music. Their entire catalogue consists of multiple variations. There’s plenty more to explore guys!! Suggest try “ No Quarter “ next for a totally different listening experience. Best wishes from 🏴 England.
When I was 16 I snuck out of the house with my friends. We drove 2 hours to see a Def Leppard concert. My Mom found out & I was grounded for a month. Considering my Mom went to hundreds of concerts I was just following in her footsteps 😂 I would do it again to! No regret!
This version is fantastic but I’m still in the Live MSG 73 TSRTS camp-NOTHING like seeing these 4 live-especially Jimmy Page’s solo live!! ♥️. Okay now it’s really time for Stairway Live MSG 73- the guitar solo alone makes it worth it but Robert’s vocal range really shines.
Psychedelic sounds were common with bands back then, probably a mix of the drug culture and as a way to freak out the establishment. Zep did it too and rockabilly, gospel, funk, reggae, metal, country, etc.
The true secret with Led Zepplin is they played music with their souls, not just their harts and instruments. Without any doubt all four were and are absolute masters of their craft and outstanding entertainers. Listening to them every day for 50+ years has enriched my life. Every song needs you to listen to it more than once and even now i find something awesome and marvellous about their music.
Dazed and Confused was originally played by Jimmy Page when he was in the Yardbirds who some would say where the fore runners of Led Zeppelin in the mid 60’s!
Watch this live….1969, to see Jimmy play his guitar with the violin bow…and the band when they were just a few months old. The most overwhelming version is from MSG ‘73….which clocks in at 28 minutes and has a fantasy sequence to go along with it (that concert was the basis for the Zeppelin movie, The Song Remains the Same) but that’s too long for most reactors and you might run into copyright issues…although you could do it on your Patreon. Heck, I’d become a patron if you did that!
Don’t ever worry with understanding the lyrics. Just listen. After your 4th or 5th time listening to the song, then if it even matters to you anymore, then look up the lyrics. I’m 65 and I’ve been listening to Led Zeppelin since I was about 12. Until TH-cam hit the scene 15 or so years ago, I never knew what the hell robert plant was singing and I never cared.

Really enjoy your Led Zeppelin reactions. It would behoove you to watch/listen to the live version of Dazed and Confused at Madison Square Gardens 1973. Watching these guys in action adds another dimension. Thanks for the reaction!
The long central section consists of a wonderful "double" call and response - John Paul Jones and John Bonham on the bass and drums, and Robert Plant and Jimmy Page on voice and guitar. Phenomenal interweaving of these....
This is the 4th track on their debut album. These guys are 19-20 years of age and they are making music like this.

From Eastern Europe, I think. I never actually saw Led Zeppelin live. My younger brother did. Newcastle City Hall.
Really enjoy your Led Zeppelin reactions. It would behoove you to watch/listen to the live version of Dazed and Confused at Madison Square Gardens 1973. Watching these guys in action adds another dimension. Thanks for the reaction!
You guys HAVE to react to the Led Zeppelin song, "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You". Its one of their best. The studio version from their first album. Enjoy!!
It's that evil riff that permeates the song. So simple but so catchy. I've loved it since I heard it over 50 years ago.
The long central section consists of a wonderful "double" call and response - John Paul Jones and John Bonham on the bass and drums, and Robert Plant and Jimmy Page on voice and guitar. Phenomenal interweaving of these....
This is from their debut album the boys were in their way early 20’s😮
Holy shit, great reaction guys. I've said this before but I love your dynamic together! Love you noticed the drums at 3:17 . More studio Zeppelin!
