Thank you for letting Dazed and Confused play, and showing the respect that they deserve! Most of that is improvising, which makes it more amazing! They know certain sections they are going to play. But nobody rehearses what they perform on stage to that!! The Mighty Led Zeppelin!!!

Okay this was from the movie," The Song Remains the Same". in the movie each band member has a fantasy series with their own song. Dazed and Confused is Jimmy's song . So half way through his bow solo ,Jimmy drifts into a trance. He is being called out . He leaves his body following the calling. Jimmy began climbing the mountain ,when he got to the top of the mountain . There was The Hermit. He reached out to the Hermit .( the Hermit is from Led Zeppelin IV. On the inside of the album cover. The Hermit is on top of a mountain, with his arm raised holding a lantern. )In the movie Jimmy reaches out to the Hermit. when Jimmy looked into the hermit face, The hermit began to change and get younger and younger. Flashing Jimmy's life before his own eyes. Then Jimmy realized why he was drawn to climbing the mountain. He and The Hermit where one in the same. Spiritually he is drawn back into his performance on stage. The bow solo ends and his fantasy or OBE is over.

I'm so glad this video exists of Led Zeppelin in their prime. The fact that they can stray so far from the original material and nobody misses a beat. This is a hard acid jazz masterpiece that will forever stand the test of time.

I used to think he was the best - then I got good at playing myself and realised he wasn’t. He’s too sloppy live to be the best imho. He may be the best all rounder - taking into account the writing, inventiveness and so on.
For me, mick Taylor was the better straight up guitarist. Watch some stones clips from the early 70s and listen for him. He’s flawless. But he didn’t have the writing - that was keef.
Keef was obviously a great lead but he’s also the greatest rhythm guitarist ever. Riff machine.

Sir, the beauty and reason there are great artist is because they wrote the stuff,.not just because they can play the instrument.
Being able to play Jimmy Page licks is one thing but go ahead and write, arrange and produce it too and then you will see what an all around genius he was.

Fucking genius as if the music wasn't good enough they throw that extremely deep philosophical concept into the film and on top of that the scene goes perfect with the music. The way this band poured their souls into their music is still felt in our souls. They loved what they did and we felt every bit of it. Robert Plant is my favorite frontman for all the reasons on display in this video, he doesn't leave that stage, he is up there jamming out the entire time, he makes his vocals such a great instrument when no lyrics are needed. He has the best I wanna say presence for lack of a better word, he seems like he was born on stage. Jimmy Page made that guitar an extension of himself, he sang to us his beautiful lyrics with that guitar. He found ways constantly to get different sounds out of his guitar. John Paul Jones was the everything this band needed him to be, he plays so many different instruments to perfection, it's truly a pleasure to hear. Then Bonzo, John Bonham I will never have all the correct words to say just how incredible he was, but on every drummer's favorite drummer's list , he is one of the tops. I'm still thankful this is the music of my youth.

The thing about the performance which makes it incredible is that it's a kind of a semi spontaneous prolonged jam. They had a loose template for the song but there a lot of spontaneous in the performance. The chemistry was so strong they could really feedback from each other and had an idea of "where to go". The part where Bonhman and JPJ look at each other as if to say "oh he's going there again" before the Achilles Last Stand sounding bit for example. They aways been called tight but lose (even their fanzine was). I've not watched it all for about 10 years but Jimmy is on fire!!! That is why I often to come him being a GOAT of some sort. He's all over the place and it's not drilled to perfection like EVH and later noodlers and shredders. It's all the pentatonics then modal in places but also visceral and sonic with the wah down but soft in other places, which is incredible feel and expression (something you don't normaly associate with him). It's fast (as F) in places and not alot of bum notes. People often mark Jimmy down a bit (not as smooth as Clapton etc) I don't know why, (jealous??). I've never seen anyone do it like that, pure energy and expression. He could also play blue grass, slide, twelve string as well as electric and the hurry gurdy!!

JImmy Page was heavy into the occult. He was fascinated with Aleister Crowley. He actually bought and lived in his Crowley's house. At the beginning of his fantasy he starts pointing to the compasses four cardinal points with the bow, basically creating his magic. Then he slips into the fantasy sequence where he is climbing to reach the hermit tarot figure. Once he gets there the hermit is him and he is the hermit. They are one.

It amazes me that so many of the "respond" or "react" videos that I find on YT are to Led Zeppelin. It is pretty clear that the generation that is reacting to this music from 50 years ago, and is blown away by it, only proves how massive this band truly was. The Hammer of the Gods, for sure.

I've felt for a long time now that this piece, this fantasia, is truly an experimental piece of modern music, particularly the bow sequence. It is a shamanistic sound sculpture that rivals any experimental orchestral or jazz music of the 20th cent.

Well worth the viewing! That's Jimmy using a cello bow on his guitar. Believe it or not, he wasn't the first person to do so, however, it became synonymous with him. As others have mentioned, everyone in the band, including manager Peter Grant and road manager Richard Cole, had a "fantasy" sequence and this is Jimmy's. Why? Because the people filming the concert were documentary movie people and not used to filming dynamic action, such as a concert. They had gaps in the film so filmed the sequences to help bridge those gaps. Jimmy's sequence was filmed on a December night, with a full moon, on his property in Scotland. He said he had to climb up the hill several times so they could get the different angles and considered himself very fortunate he didn't fall and get hurt. He also said it was very tiring having to stand as still as possible for them to apply the aging makeup and prosthetics. According to Jimmy, the climb, he said "It was supposed to look like a really esoteric climb towards the aspiration of truth".

Truth: talent, and ambition meet, and have an affair with
psycadelics and coke, .... this is their baby!....God Bless Zepplin, their babies got me through my "latch-key" childhood and teen years in a hardcore dysfuctional family, ahead of the social curve in the early 1970's, my parents were first to get divorced. It was Social Suicide back then. LZ's experimentation was cutting edge, their trust and respect for one another admirable, and dedication as musical masters of their instruments was inspirational and orgasmic. So blessed, that this was so much a part of my life experience on this planet. Jimmy goes in and out of zen with his sound, to showmanship of what happens when you practice your instrument DAILY. You become one with it, like a true marriage....so much fun for those of us who harnessed other talents, but don't have this one. Now imagine being on an Acid trip during this??? Parents lost their minds ( now you know where Guns 'n Roses borrowed from).... These Albums, WERE OUR ENTERTAINMENT! and they had an impact on Caucasian youth, mainly. We got to experience the depth of excellence. Imagining this blowing your mind at 16? There is one phrase that comes to mind whenever I hear this....
"Standards...of excellence"....so kids practice, practice, practice! oh and btw's, we would never insult Robert as "acting a fool" he was no David Lee Roth! His energy, range, vocals and experimentation were intrgral to the band's sound. They often went on long musical "adventures" to give Robert's vocal chords a little break or rest. If you listen to what he does with his voice, throat, it is every bit as much an equal instrument.

You really need to watch the whole movie The Song Remains the Same it's a must for any Led Zeppelin fan it'll blow you away. "Dazed and Confused," is Jimmy Page's song. "Moby Dick ", is John Bonham's song. Bonzo has an awesome drum solo you got to see it. "No Quarter" is John Paul Jones's song. JPJ has some great organ and keyboard's. "The Song Remains the Same/The Rain song"is Robert Plant's song.

I have seen this entire concert footage at least 1000 times since it came out. The “Album” is The Song Remains The Same which came from a concert Led Zeppelin put on in Madison Square Garden in about 1975. The part you were wondering about is the “dream”that Jimmy Page had for his part of the show. Each band member and even Peter Grant, their executive producer had their own “dream” in the movie. You will have to watch the movie from beginning to end to understand the “psychedelic dream” each member has in the story that is the concert. SPOILER ALERT: Peter Grant’s dream opens the movie with the gangster hit at a castle card game. WORTH A FEW BEERS TO SEE THE WHOLE THING!!
