Black and white photo editing with RawTherapee

RawTherapee is a powerful, cross-platform raw photo processing program, released under the GNU General Public License Version 3 and written in C++ using a GTK+ front-end.
In this video I use the RawTherapee a photo taken from the old medieval town of Rhodes, Greece into Black and White.

You can use vignette filter in combination with reducing the lightness from the exposure tab. Then you can play with the colors in the color tab, if you want something more artistic. In the new version of RawTherapee, there will be a new tab called "local adjustment" where you can apply filters on a specific area.

@@HogbergPhotography If you really like the old version look you can try an older version, for example 5.0 or 4.2, and test it from here: www.rawtherapee.com/2022/07/rawtherapee-5.9-wip-and-project-updates/. However, I always suggest to use the latest stable version.
You can even try to use the newest unstable version (please don't use it for production) from here: github.com/Beep6581/RawTherapee/releases/tag/nightly-github-actions . @@HogbergPhotography they changed the look and feel of the tools and memus few versions ago. Some people like it some not.
All the options are still there, they most likely have different name or more options!

if shot in raw and black and white, how to extract it out into black and white?
mac viewer shows colored photos only even if I took the photos in camera raw black and white.

If you shoot RAW, then your camera sensor will capture everything including the colors. Use an application like RawTherapee to convert it to black and white.

We don't know. The new version introduces many new tools, such as local adjustments, that require a lot of testing. I can make a preview video of the 5.9 version if you are interested.
