Thanks for sharing this content. Nowadays, many people, even me, lack of media literacy in sometimes and we may be persuaded by misinformation. So i love these five tips in order to avoid disinformation and those are able to remind me to be more considerate!
This video is really helpful, I totally agree about many thing that you said mostly about attention economy such as those clickbait thing. Some news media cannot be trust, we must use media literacy to analyze information that we gain.
Great presentation! At first, I thought this video was recent as it could easily be and even more prevalent. It is fair to give both sides of the information current to the presenters' knowledge. Totally acceptable is additional information is added later, regardless if it could have been accessed/retrieved prior.
I think just reporting the news instead of having opinions is the key. I don’t need the to know views on an issue from someone that bias. Also please stop getting your news from social media. I trust the local news more.
thats why they have and had the Op Ed pages with by lines, so readers would know that those are Opinions, and many Op Ed pages, inc the NYT, have a header that literally says Opinions over their op ed pages
I extremely agree with the speaker that news should help us, because nowadays, especially in Ukraine our news programs consist only of negative and exaggerated information, which is usually not true, they just want to hold our attention and sell adds. This video gives a kind of information that each person should know and use. All the tips for making media trustworthy are well-known, but still many people don't use them and go with a flow of fake information. I think that if all of us react to news differently and more conciously news media won't have another way but to change its specific. Because as the speaker said:"We deserve news that helps us make better sense of the world around us".
It's the trust that's broken, and it won't ever be fixed as it's not in the interest of the industry. With a public that has an attention span of 10 minutes and can't be bothered to read beyond the headlines even on their cell phones, there really is No chance.! of raising and audience with this generation.
Free Press is a 4th State. Frequency Franchise is Govt owned resource. Govt of the people for the people and by the people. The news are mostly from the people and the Govt. therefore the media must be owned by the People. All must have automatic equal share on all mainstream media Franchise. The new culture of earning while you are watching... This must be the topic of the new normal.
Downplaying a storm is not click worthy, so with your theory media should exaggerate these kind of incidents. It's not all about advertising money they have an agenda.
Rickey is a very pleasant woman for sure, but I can't understand your enthusiastic comments here guys. Yes, we should distinguish the news (short messages) and journalism. It's obvious that they have different aimes. If I want to see what weather it is today, I don't wanna read long constructive reports and articles explaining to me some meteorological cause and effect. I just need one quick look at the tempreature degree or rain possibility maybe. And even after that I cannot trust it, it's obvious. If I want some objective long read to find out something or study thoroughly, I'll go and read some article. It's about the variety of news' sources and news' styles. The trustworthy of both of them can be questioned, though. There's another point of Rickey which I cannot get. She believes that if you pay for the news, for the news outlets (like buing a newspaper or some subscription) that will help to change the content of them. I think that if you support something this automatically means that you like it, need it, so please do more, don't stop. Like you boost the demand. Ok, maybe I'm wrong. But her next point here is that by supporting the media with our money we can make the media refuse from advertisments. Really? Is that how it works? If I give you money will you refuse to get more money from somebody else? Maybe I'm wrong here too. Anyway this talk was interesting and it was pleasure to look at and listen to that woman :)
And when it did, you had people like Woodward and Bernstein to set things straight again Agnew called them the "nattering nabobs of negativism" re the press, a foreshadowing of Trumps current "Fake News"
That talk sounds very naive. Choice of one person is not going to change the business. Unfortunately there is no election time for press and media where its possible to see new choice made by mass. We need better tools to influence media giants.
Pretty superficial. She blames the news media for being unpopular. The news media is unpoular in large part because people in our highly polarized society don't like to hear anything that contradicts their own views. She blames the news media for not having enough conservative viewpoints,. So how is it that Trump gets more air time than all other politicians combined? She advises us to watch foreign news sources like the BBC. That is the best piece of advice in her presentation. The rest is a bit preachy and shallow.
Trump only gets the most air time because they are constantly trying to tear the man down. Just because he gets air time doesn't mean that there is diversity of political thought.
WHY DOES IT HAVE ONLY 50K VIEWS?! ALL 7 BILLION PEOPLE SHOULD WATCH THIS

Simply the best! Superbly summarized A-Z!
the speech was incredable, really i`ve been glued to the screen all the video long
Trust is a big step especially if it is the media. Usually, it takes time for the audience will become the demand.
