The Mythbusters episode of radar cooking "birds" incorrectly said this was a myth. I was a radar tech in the navy and I am now an RF Engineer. Please reach out to me and I can go over the errors.
Idk how or when I acquired this information, but she got involved with Mythbusters because she was making art and someone told her to go to Jamie's studio to show him. Apparently he wasn't so impressed at first, but saw a sculpture she did and decided to hire her. So she was an artist before she was a Mythbuster. A pretty damn good one too.
I mean, having worked at multiple work places that frequently require boss's or coworker's signatures... Let me just say "This is one of the first things you need to learn" was an explicit instruction regarding my boss's signature
As the story goes (and mind you I have no reason to believe nor disbelief this story) Adam had a tendency at events to sign items with Jamie’s signature both in addition to or sometimes in place of his own for laughs; Jamie I guess did not appreciate it.
The thing that strikes me as interesting was the attempt at taking the artist out of the equation only served to showcase their personalities all the more. Jamie always seems like the embodiment of controlled explosion, and Adam the embodiment of setting it free. I think it could be argued that a matched set of these paintings are the purest artistic expression of the spirit of MythBusters.
I was gonna say this is some stupid BS artsy crap and that you are wrong but after thinking about it, you're completely right. That's actually kinda crazy. Art may actually be cool
@@skrimper I don't think this was any more intentional on either Adam or Jamie's parts than when they stumbled on their winning straight man and wise guy tropes. It's just such a strong combination ( like chocolate and peanut butter) that it seems to occur naturally around them.
The more you strive to do something unnatural (in this case, to obtain the essence of something removed from the ego of a person), the more it becomes about the person. I mean, sure, you could try and do some form of random outcome, but even that random outcome was at some point a brain child of the one who designed the "random" nature. The closest i've seen are nature paintings, where canvases are placed in various places, and left out in the wild. And even those, by nature of the fact that the location was chosen for specific reasons (be it remoteness from humans or a certain set of circumstances that might result in something present on the canvases, can't bury it under ground, after all) are, in fact, an extension of the creator.
plus the fact that the true art of Adam's explosion was caught "in the moment", on the high speed footage, instead of on canvas as intended. If that doesn't say Adam Savage to you, I dunno what else does.
Ten years, curators of this touring prop display have taken great care to not knock off the large flakes on the front of Adam’s “Explosive Art”. Adam instantly destroys them by flipping them face down on the table and grinds them off in one fell swoop!
It's always interesting to look at how Jamie and Adam do things. Remember, Jamie is an engineer and Adam is a physicist. They approach things with completely different mindsets and that's part of what made Mythbusters so great.
A lot of famous people have two signatures: their autograph and the one they sign paperwork with. I assume that Adam can forge Jamie’s autograph but not his paperwork signature.
I'd love to own a little bit of mythbusters history as the series means so much to me, but i have a feeling all of the items are going to go for a ridiculous amount.
The up side is this will raise a lot of money for the foundation. For people like us we would hope they would do a raffle so we all can get a ticket for a chance to win something. That would be a bigger chance and never having the $1000's for a sharpie from the show
I always thought Adam and Jamie ended up getting their devices the wrong way around in that episode. The one Adam used to try and put art on the canvases actually had enough dispersal that it could've covered a complete set of walls somewhat evenly, while Jamie's was concentrated enough that it could have made patterns on canvases.
It would be cool if you were able to offer 10 still shot prints of your "clown" rainbow in a raffle, so that people with less money could buy tickets and have a chance to win some awesome memorabilia. Thanks.
These paintings would make great conversation pieces, regardless of where they are. I know I'm not going to be able to afford one, but dammit I'm gonna try!
I think the Slow Mo Guys have done some pretty fantastic art work in a similar manner. The creativity and technical know how to do all this is amazing.
Man, I grew up watching Mythbusters to the point my siblings would tease me for it. I must've watched the show entirely through at least 3 times. This stuff is so nostalgic for me, I love that you're doing this stuff, especially in a way that remembers Grant Imahara. I'll never forget him and always cherish the memories he gave to me as a geeky High School freshman without too many friends.
I love that Adam created a piece of video art (instead of on-canvas art) by mistake! It makes my animator/artist heart happy that there was beauty in the process 🥰
Those painting perfectly describe Jamie's and Adam's approaches to science. Jamie's constraining and Adam's expanding. No wonder they couldn't agree! That's why the show was so interesting.
I think Jamie and Adam matched perfectly in how opposite they were. They were like a buddy cop duo that never quite gets along, but they understand each other well and can work together effectively because of that fact.

By writing a novel, you are In a way you are indeed a maker. Making is all about creating something from nothing or something new from other things. It’s the weaving of words into a novel that is creating something from nothing.
I think smelling a little bit like explosives is an important part of the Mythbuster's aesthetic. Also, is there anything that sums up how Jamie and Adam presented themselves on the show better than Jamie trying to contain an explosion while Adam tries to set it free?
I just went and watched the painting with explosives episode to see the clown hair explosion, and it was way more beautiful than I expected. If there was a print of that explosion I would buy the heck out of it.
When I was a kid playing with a bb gun rifle I would look for random items to use as targets. Often it would be soda cans filled with water or other similar items. One time I shot an empty spray paint can that was on the ground behind our house and while it was mostly out of paint it still had enough air pressure in the can that it started spinning around. Ever since then I've always wanted to make a box out of canvases and then rupture a can of spray paint to see what crazy, abstract designs would end up on the canvases.
And that was just the first coat! Technicolor dreamcoat and coat of paint, get it, get it? Okay, I'll get my coat. No, I mean my actual... oh never mind.
I believe Adam, your exact words were, "It looks like a clowns head exploded!"... my thought exactly. That explosion, the first cement mixer truck and the giant pyrotechnic coffee creamer event, were some of the best and most shocking high speed shots. The fact that there will never again be such an educational, fun an inspiring TV series is sad, but glad I got to witness it.
I really like the three dimensionality of Adam's paintings -- they may not be full of colour like he wanted, but the way light and shadow plays out across them due to the resulting texture and structure is great!

it was actually a cube... he built it to paint a room with 4 sides... it makes perfect sense... he just needed to put some mesh or something over the sides to diffuse the paint.
Well, Adam's maybe, in the sense that the paintings look weathered. But Jamie is a practical guy; if he needed to put paint on canvas he would have used a roller.
soon after this video i went to the paint explosion, gorgeous piece! so i replayed it at .25 playback speed just to let it soak in. then i clicked back and forgot to turn the speed to normal xD "haiiii eeevveeryyybodyyy." xD always make sure your settings are righted after messing with them

Weight of the paint in the can would prevent it jumping around like that but maybe if you suspended it from string in the box?
