"Pirates are going to have a harder time copying these discs" XD XD XD XD XD XD XD I couldn't be laughing harder right now, I've used up all of my tears.
Lol cracks me up how 2000 born kids minds are blown this type of stuff was on TV. They had an entire network dedicated to gaming at 1 time. G4 TV. And TechTv had a few gaming shows. 2000 born kids can't even believe new music videos were on TV. They think all music videos were always released on TH-cam 😂😂.
Actually, developers never filled up the full disc. So it makes it really easy to burn a full game to a cd-rom. I have a Dreamcast and, I've burnt Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Marvel vs Capcom, Capcom vs SNK and Resident Evil 3. The Dreamcast, just plays them all, straight away, with no mods. So where as SEGA thought it would make it hard for piracy, just because the GD-Roms are about a gig in size. It actually made it easy, because they didn't do anything else to stop piracy. And yes they are the full games on one CD-Rom, with nothing missing
+Yoshifan333 dramas made up till mid 2000, can play burnt games. Yes some games have the sound mixed up. Resident Evil Code Veronica is one of those. But not all burnt copies are like this
2:46: "Four or five years from now, gaming's going to be a lot different... at least in part, it's gonna be thanks to the dreamcast." - History has proven him right.
These guys were definitely visionaries and correctly predicted that online gaming was the future. Dreamcast set the precedent for connecting to the internet. That is its legacy.
Dreamcast was a great console, especially if you loved Capcom fighting games. Capcom gave the DC a lot of love. Well built too, my launch DC still works.
they did plan, thats why the modem is replaceable with an ethernet one. They knew thats the way the internet was going but most people still had dialup in the late 90s so they launched it with a 56k modem. rather brilliant planning actually.
At my middle school curtis in carson california. they had a Dreamcast giveaway. contest for whom won a candy sale. and a boy named R D had won the game with its launch titles.
"Another thing to consider is that 4 or 5 from now console gaming is going to be a lot different, and I think at least in part it will be thanks to the Dreamcast." Food for thought, I think.
@InstinctualJealousy Actually although the Dreamcast had the GD-ROM it supported CDs. This is why it was so easy. Out of the box, it was ready to play pirated games. Transferring games to CD could have been done even before the release date.
Mad how time has flown by. If it'd been a DVD based console, it would of sold better, but I don't think it could've stopped the PS2. But if the DC had been a DVD based console, I'm not sure if more games would've been released. SEGA's best console.
I don't know, DVD's were really huge back in the late 90's early 00's. Also Japan had never really seen DVD before, so the inclusion of DVD with the PS2 was a big hit in Japan. Such a shame really, even late in it's life cycle the console was selling for less than $90 with a controller, memory unit and a game, yet it still couldn't sell.
The editor discussing console never having online gaming is not true - XBand came out 3 years prior to this in 1995/96 and was made for the Genesis and SNES...and it rocked.
On 1/16/12 Kabushiki Kaisha SEGA filed a NEW multimedia multi industrial commerce trademark for 14 different International Classes and 500 different products called "Orbi". Sega Orbi will be taking over all SEGASammy operations soon.
@SteBrazier2K9 Yep. I didn't even own a dreamcast until 2002, well after its heyday was over. Between 1999 and 2001 I barely even knew it existed. Too busy playing PS2 haha.
I can just see myself now XD *goes back to 1999 in a time machine as there filming this* Hay Adam, check this shit out *holds up the PS4 PRO Adam: ummm holy shit what is that thing!? Me: it’s what’s gonna send mega shockwaves through the video game world in 2018 lol that’s what, * plugs it into a TV and the photo realistic 4K graphics of Detroit become human shows* Adam: WHAT! MAN ARE YOU SEEING THIS WICKED SHIT! 😧 2018 is like so many years away my dude and this is what video games will be like!?! Whaaaaaat duuuuuude Me: and one more thing PS4 PRO + virtual reality Adam: he’s an alien *nods*
@Di0g0ALEX On January 16,2012, Kabshiki Kaisha Sega filed a new multimedia, multi commerce trademark "Orbi" which includes the description for "Optical Disc Media, and their parts, Record able Discs,DVDs, for Home Video Usage" Toshiba has also been issuing patents for NEW optical media player without an actual brand trademark. I can PM you the info if you'd like.
Lol pirates are gonna have a hard time copying the discs.
I lol'ed hard at that.
*UTOPIA* 🦌
dreamcast was very ahead of its time.....
I was 16. My how time flies. I used to watch this, Extended Play all the time with a childhood friend. Where does the time go?
"Pirates are going to have a harder time copying these discs" XD XD XD XD XD XD XD
I couldn't be laughing harder right now, I've used up all of my tears.

0:34 -My god look at the Sega Purple processing energy emanating from the Dreamcast. You can tell it was thinking.
He was right, the internet is the future of gaming.
Can they bring back a video game channel on TV like this
It was on tv?
Lol cracks me up how 2000 born kids minds are blown this type of stuff was on TV. They had an entire network dedicated to gaming at 1 time. G4 TV. It's so weird seeing Adam Sessler with hair. Sometimes I forget that he ever had hair back then lol.
Then again it's not too surprising. He was 25 or 26 in this video and still clearly balding.
Sad that dreamcast didn't last too long i wish sega would try again with a new hardware machine
GD-Rom it's a propriety system from SEGA & the pirates are gonna struggle with it...
Actually, developers never filled up the full disc. So it makes it really easy to burn a full game to a cd-rom. Jason Bassett
Some games were over 900 MBs, you can't fit that on a CD-R
siIvermate name these specific games, that are over 900mb
Jason Bassett
I only know Shemnue II by memory

Dreamcast was a great console, especially if you loved Capcom fighting games. Capcom gave the DC a lot of love. Well built too, my launch DC still works.
It has changed, now it's 60% FPS games, 20% sandbox games, and 10% other.
Adam Sessler...a legend in 1999 and a legend in 2013.
Still a legend in 2023
Wow, Jeff looked really young here. Clearly all this video game playing has taken its toll.
I liked when he said "Pirates are going to have a harder time copying these discs"
Even back then, they knew 56K modems wouldn't be fully capable for all the games. Damn, SEGA. If you ever come back to consoles, plan for the future.
they did plan, thats why the modem is replaceable with an ethernet one. They knew thats the way the internet was going but most people still had dialup in the late 90s so they launched it with a 56k modem. rather brilliant planning actually.
That's right, I remember reading that in Dreamcast Magazine. Good piece of trivia!
Dam u old
I never had a Dreamcast but this is hard to watch how hopeful they were.
At my middle school curtis in carson california. they had a Dreamcast giveaway. contest for whom won a candy sale. and a boy named R D had won the game with its launch titles.
"Youll have a hard time copying these disks" he learned to regret those words.
Never knew Peter Moore worked for Sega
*Our Ninty Guy?!?*
wow back then adam had some hair on his head. glad hes still on g4tv
"Another thing to consider is that 4 or 5 from now console gaming is going to be a lot different, and I think at least in part it will be thanks to the Dreamcast."
Food for thought, I think.
*Boy the Dreamcast was the machine in 2000*
i wished the dreamcast lived 4 or 5 years :(
@aubba
Dreamcast is still alive in my heart :')
It has a lot of active players in 2011!, online gaming like pso or quake III and homebrew's.
@InstinctualJealousy Actually although the Dreamcast had the GD-ROM it supported CDs. This is why it was so easy. Out of the box, it was ready to play pirated games. Transferring games to CD could have been done even before the release date.
Love dreamcast. Still buy games for it to this day.
Happy 25th Anniversary from 2024!
Poor man's Morgan Webb
Damn I feel old... 56k modem... now I we have 1gig.
Mad how time has flown by. If it'd been a DVD based console, it would of sold better, but I don't think it could've stopped the PS2. But if the DC had been a DVD based console, I'm not sure if more games would've been released. SEGA's best console.
dreamcast best system ever

@InstinctualJealousy SEGA and Toshiba are working on their own format codenamed "Orbi Disc".
They were right, gaming IS different now. It's 70% FPS games and 30% other.
The editor discussing console never having online gaming is not true - XBand came out 3 years prior to this in 1995/96 and was made for the Genesis and SNES...and it rocked.
'Can the system withstand the test of time?'
Discontinued 3 years later
Still alive in 2020
I know there would be the cost but man I wish they could have used DVDs.
@InstinctualJealousy Haha, thanks for being more specific. That's true. I never actually pirated games. I did however burn back-ups.
LOL @ 1:29

On 1/16/12 Kabushiki Kaisha SEGA filed a NEW multimedia multi industrial commerce trademark for 14 different International Classes and 500 different products called "Orbi". Sega Orbi will be taking over all SEGASammy operations soon.
Whats with the Nerdy clone of Ben Affleck?
@SteBrazier2K9 Yep. I didn't even own a dreamcast until 2002, well after its heyday was over. Between 1999 and 2001 I barely even knew it existed. Too busy playing PS2 haha.
Simpler times. IMO, the golden age of gaming before PS2 dominated and took it a step further.
I can just see myself now XD *goes back to 1999 in a time machine as there filming this*
Hay Adam, check this shit out *holds up the PS4 PRO
Adam: ummm holy shit what is that thing!?

wtf was sega thinking not having two analogue sticks....
What else would they have been thinking? No other console had analog before it. Dreamcast was the first to do it at all. .
26 MB? WTF?
Compared to the 3.5 MB on the PS1
Yea, usually just downsampled CGI.
