    The Dominion had a Breen in the same prison as Bashir and Martok. That could mean that Breen was replaced by a Founder who manipulated the Breen into joining the Dominion.
    Dukat mentioned that there was a Cardassian embassy on Breen and that it was bitter cold on Breen. That contradicts Weyoun's claim that Breen has a temperate climate.
    The Breen wanted control of Romulus from the Dominion, which could mean they bear some animosity towards the Romulans. But then, they also wanted earth.

      I could imagine two scenarios. First, if it is a group of species, then their would be multiple "home worlds". Number 2, they are smart enough to not really show everyone their real home world so they lie about the real one and picked a worthless frozen planet. It would funny of they picked a frozen world for the Cardassians specifically because Cardassians hate the cold.

      Apparently it's from some not very well known sci-fi show in the early 70s. So Star Trek wasn't ripping off Star Wars, they both were ripping off something obscure from even earlier. Same explanation for the comic characters Swamp Thing and Man Thing (came out the same month, both based on obscure character "The Heap" from 15 years earlier).
      No idea what the deal is with the 2 Dennis The Menace that came out in the US and the UK at the same time.

      The Breen were initially an improvised low-budget creation. The production people didn't want to bother designing new aliens, new makeup and prosthetics, etc ... and they only needed one or two for the first Breen episodes ... so they repurposed old props and wardrobes, quickly put together half-assed costume which completely covered the performers. Surprisingly popular with fans so they got a lot more detail (yet carefully didn't get much specific detail) in later appearances.
      Not be the actual headgear prop worn in Star Wars, but definitely drew influence from it.

    I wish the Star Trek universe had continued on after the Voyager series, instead of going backward with Enterprise and Discovery. I loved the story lines in TNG and DS9 and even Voyager to an extent. I would love to see the relationship between the broken Cardassian people and the Bajorans, seemingly they both have something in common after the war. I would love to see the Bajorans finally join the Federation and maybe even the Ferengi since they had reformed their culture and laws. I would also had loved to see more dealings with species from the Delta quadrant, specifically the Viddiian, which were by far the best villains in the entire Voyager series. (We all know what the writers did to the Borg.)

      I would LOVE to see the Vidiians having to deal with the Hirogen hunters!!
      Or even the Hirogen vs the Klingons!!!
      One of my biggest gripes in the whole Trekiverse, is that it always seems like it's only ever the Federation that has to deal with outside threats!! Borg invasion in TNG? Do they target the Breen? The Klingons? The Romulans? Nope, they HAVE to target the Federation! Border conflicts don't count, since there's almost always going to be border tensions and every culture deals with them, but outside threats that come from _Elsewhere_ and that don't share a border with ANY alpha quadrant species (or the [beta quadrant] Romulans) ALWAYS seem to only ever affect the Federation!! In fairness, however, I suppose it's possible that the Klingons, the Romulans, the Cardassians, etc, have all had to deal with things like The Crystalline Entity (or whatever the outside threat in question may be), but they choose not to make that information public and so our friends in the Federation just never hear of it.
      Still, nothing will ever compare to that episode* where Captain Kirk find some Protomolecule residue in a Prothean ruin and needs to travel forwards in time to get help from Picard's enterprise and her crew, to stop an unknown threat from both the Protomolecule creators AND from the Reaper invasion!!!! Best Episode EVER!!!
      * = It's possible that this might have been a dream that I confused with a real episode...

    • @dark7element
      @dark7element 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Raz.C It's not always clear, but it seems like the Federation is absolutely huge. It's questionable how canon it is, but in the 'map of the alpha quadrant' you can find online, the Federation contains a lot more planets and controls more territory than the Klingons, Romulans and Cardassians put together. The reason that Starfleet has to worry about war with these other powers is Starfleet is more like an armed NGO than an imperial military and doesn't pursue military dominance. Up until the discovery of the borg, Starfleet didn't even build "warships" - their cruisers were primarily science and humanitarian ships with combat ability as a tertiary consideration. They don't conscript anybody and only maintain enough combat-capable ships to maintain the peace.
      As a result the Federation is relatively weak despite having dozens of member species and their homeworlds. Even so, it is telling that aside from the Borg and the Dominion, the traditional rival races like the Klingons, Romulans and Cardassians never considered total war against the Federation a viable option, always opting for schemes and conflicts over limited objectives, usually a planet or two. The Borg and Dominion were the only entities that the Federation (that is, from the TNG era onward) as a whole was truly threatened by. So naturally they encounter all the weird threats; they're the ones looking for them.
      Incidentally I feel sure that the Reapers were at least partly inspired by the Borg and V'ger.

      @Raz.C 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dark7element
      I get what you're saying, which means that I don't think I explained my own position very well. Let me try this:
      It seems like starfleet is the Earth Space Fleet, rather than the Federation Space Fleet. Sure, you find Vulcans here and there along with Andorians and Tellerites, Betazeds, etc... But they seem like token additions here and there, rather than the millions from those worlds one would expect. Instead, it seems like Earth is the only planet, humans are the only race which has millions of representatives in Star Fleet. There should be millions of people from each of the two hundred odd Federation worlds, all in Star Fleet.
      If that WERE the case, then none of the stellar neighbours of the Federation would be able to compete militarily with Star Fleet or the Federation. because- everything else aside- a Galaxy Class starship or even an Intrepid class starship (not to mention the Defiant class) is more than a match for any Romulan/ Klingon/ Cardassian warship, even though these Federation vessels aren't warships (Defiant aside, but we didn't mention that anyway)...

    What if the Breen homeworld is tidally locked to its star? You would have a world with a temperate light side and permanently subzero dark side.
    That way their world could be both seen as a pleasant environment by aliens, and dominated by a species evolved in the bitter cold of the night side. It might even explain how there could be multiple species of Breen, with each hailing from a different region of their homeworld (not unlike the Xindi I guess).

      Maybe a "nation" of Augments, similar to Khan, that decided to keep to themselves rather than try to go for harebrained schemes or galactic domination? Would make sense. The Federation would likely genocide them all if they ever found out what exactly they are, which is why they avoid them, while they don't have such reservations about the Klingons (whom they dislike for attacking them without provocation), the Ferengi, and the Dominion.
      I mean, if you lead a group of people that all have unnatural blue hair from birth, and some faction, that doesn't know about you yet, made one of its core tenets that everyone with an "unnatural" hair color violates their laws and needs to die, you'd stay the hell away from them as much as you can, and if you end up in a war with these people, you're gonna make sure that every hit on them hurts (like the Breen's attack on San Francisco) so they know not to approach you.

      Partially correct. At the first conflict the weapon effected all but ONE Klingon ship, apparently they had a Klingon version of Jordi Õ_Õ onboard that had modified the ship making the ship (accidentally?) Immune to the breen weapon. The rest of the Klingon fleet was decimated at that battle. However after that first battle the Klingon fleet that had remained behind and all newly made Klingon ships were able to be rapidly modified in the same manor as that sole surviving Klingon ship making them immune to the effects as well. That lead to them being pushed to the forefront because the federation and romulans took longer to adapt the Klingon modifications to their respective tech. But they all managed to make the modifications after some time and at that point the weapon was rendered totally useless against everyone.

      What would be funny if the the Breen-s habitual extreme caution and acting mysterious lead to the Borg barely even being aware of their existence. I can imagine the borgs attempt to gather info and assimilate some Breen like this.
      Borg cube enters Breen space - Never to return, collective never learns what happened to it.
      Attempted capture of Breen ships by the borg in neutral territories. - After the fifth time the breen ship being captured just exploded before anything could be learned from it, the collective stopped trying.
      Attempted assimilation of captured Breen from third party. - Biological discintiveness lost to suspected self destruct implant that turned the Bleens body into unrecognizable degraded biomass. Cold suit provided no useful new technology or insight for the collective.
      Attempted information gathering and summary based on own experiences and data assimilated from others. - Precious little information recovered, files mysteriously lost from the collectives data net shortly after, including own records of previous encounters. Breens very existence dismissed as myth created by some of the assimilated species by the collective. Breen territory is now marked on the collectives starmaps, as one giant navigational hazard to be avoided by Borg ships in the future.

      Minority species of mostly civilians or raiders. I assume you are talking about the cat-like humanoids that almost no Star Trek work mentions aside from passing, right? I'm curious too if there is more on them. A lot of people assume that the Kataan (if that is how you spell it) vessel in TNG with the games was manned by Catians (saying Kataans and the Catains [Caitans?] are the same species even though they did not at all look alike). I haven't heard clarification since I heard that debate decades ago.

    One thing I like about the breen is they are still very mysterious. Which makes them naturally more scary.
    I love the Borg but over explaining them made them more know and less threating.

    Great subject matter. I think the Breen, was an plot point to make DS9 more interesting like the Borg in TNG. It worked out but they were overplayed. Still a great video! What if the Breen were a former member of The Federation or mutant humans that would explain the hostility towards the Federation and particularly the Klingons?

    Could be a hegemony structure exacting a tribute from their worlds in exchange for protection. As for captian or Thot status could be closer to a baron or lordship where they own a symbolic territory as reward for their position and these baronies collaborate to form a lower stage of government
    Thoughts?
