Grew up near Paducah KY listening to WLS from the age of ten in 1969 and wound up in radio myself somehow in 1977 off and on til 2007. What a ride and it all started listening to WLS for most of the 70's. Thank you WLS.

Awesome!!!!! My gosh, back in 1975'ish my boyfriend and I lived in Duncan, OK...we loved tuning into WLS every night after about 8 pm. We could hear it clearly. John "Records" Landecker was a favorite of ours. We were thrilled when we called in a few times and got to speak to him. Thanks so much....very cool!!

Listening to am radio at night back in this era . WLS ,WCFL, WABC, WLW, WOWO, CKLW to name a few 50,000 watt stations . All those great DJ's on the airwaves and those am radio hits . Kind of our internet of the day . John Records was a Chicago radio legend . Almost forgot to mention Larry Lujack another big name from the air chair of WLS !

Though many of us didn't realize it at the time, those of us that lived thru these years grew up in the greatest age of AM radio. 50000 watt powerhouses like WLS, KOMA,, WOAI and many others across the US and Canada, broadcasted the soundtrack of our lives.

How true Kelly . Windsor / Detroit CKLW THE BIG AM 800 . They always gave heavy play rotation to Burton Cummings & the Guess Who . Way cool era to grow up in .

I used to listen to these montages on New Year's every year when I was growing up in the 70s. I see I wasn't the only one to record them on cassettes!

Does anyone know what the instrumental is playing right after the 7 up commercial?!! It sounds like David Gilmore era Pink Floyd but I can’t find it anywhere!

It's only one note (two?) so I cannot be completely certain, but I believe is the beginning of a K-Tell (or similar) commercial offering a top hits album, including Captain and Tenille's "Love Will Keep Us Together". That note sounds to me like the start of that song.

This sure brings back memories when i used to listen to WLS radio on New Year's Eve. I must admit though, the decline of American music began before 1975 ended with the advent of the dreaded music genre known as...Disco. 😩

The only out of sequence tunes I heard were Shimmy Shimmy Koko Bop and Mule Skinner Blues in 1961 instead of 1960.

Unfortunately, they didn't keep the years' songs "together," i.e., all of 1958 songs, then 1959, etc., instead skipping all over the place. Their description at the beginning of the segment made it sound they were going to do it that way, and then they didn't.

      Yes, that's "unfortunate". 🙄
