This was a big big hit in the early 90s
totally 90's vibe
B BIG BIG Hit!
Nearly the biggest hit of the 90s surely. Instantly known from the first milli second. 86 baby here👍👍👍
Back to the oldschool!
Ace of Base was so huge in the 90’s!
Yeah it was. I loved it, was at college at the time. My mate used to take the pee-wee and sang it about one of our teachers who was pregnant!
i was 15 ...magical years of d 90s
Listen to DONT TURN AROUND next... and yes this was played everywhere and on all 90s movies
It's a cover of a Tina Turner song. It was also covered by reggae band Aswad
@@alisueblogs9029 loved the aswad one
@@alisueblogs9029 yes but theirs is better ha
Great song!!
One of the best covers ever!
Hey Jay, try Everything But The Girl - Missing, you'll love it. Haunting but a great jam.
💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
This was on the radio today on SiriusXM on the 90's station. I loved this song!
yes
'Missing' brings back some serious memories....love that song. Will always remind me of a specific time and place when life was just straight up fun.
Definitely the video version too.
Ace of Base was my first cassette I bought with my allowance, and my friends and I listened to it non-stop. They had a lot of hits in the 90s.
Same!
I think they may have been my first CD too
When I was 13 in spring 1993 my English teacher organized a trip to London for us to practice the language. My first time in a plane and also the first time in another country without my parents. We visited Tower Records on Piccadilly Circus and I bought the cassette with my trip allowance. A bit later I got a CD player so it was my last cassette (except for self recorded ones). Hearing their music always reminds me of how exciting this all was.
@@Silkke war eine schöne Zeit damals... So schöne Erinnerungen
ha, was my second cassette after Aerosmith's Get A Grip!
This one, The Sign, Cruel Summer, Don't Turn Around, Beautiful Life, Wheel of Fortune and Lucky Lovewere all favorites of mine. This whole album is gold.
I didn't even know they did a Cruel Summer cover.
Don’t forget the ballad….Every time it Rains….which is my favourite
@@eggy1962 The vocals by Linn for Everytime It Rains was recorded in one take.
@@tudorjason yes i have read the story behind it, i would have liked to hear jenny’s version as a comparison but i know miles davis insisted on linn’s even tho she didn’t like the song
The instrument you were asking about was a saxophone!
Probably baritone, if I had to guess.
@@maximelaneville854 Probably sampled and played on a keyboard (with everything else).
@@maximelaneville854 Yeah. A baritone sax.
Actually, it was a synthesiser. They didn't use an actual sax.
Sounds like an electric saxophone!
They were definitely 90's dance. "Don't turn around" and their remake of "Cruel summer" are two other great songs by Ace of Base
They're called the 90's Abba because both groups are Swedish 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
I think also cause they created like a ”new” music style. That you can instantly recognize when you hear and think like ”oh this feels heavily ABBA inspired or Ace of base inspired”
What a timeless classic. Almost 30 years, amazing! It's pop but so moody and dark.
Pop and reggae, Linn said it sounded like red red wine.
Oooooh, this was IT. These guys absolutely dominated. So many millions of records sold. That vibe. They had it going on. You gotta listen to more!
The Streets please " Blinded by the lights", "Has it come to this" and many more xx
This song was awesome. Everyone loved it at the time it was out. Even my rocker-mates liked it :)
Beautiful Life, Life Is a Flower, Lucky Love
Whenever I hear this song it always makes me think of Whigfield - Saturday Night eg both are annoyingly catchy.
React to their song "Happy Nation" is from the same album of "All That She Wants" and "The Sign" but it has a different vibe and a unique sound! You'll love it!
Happy Nation is great!
Yes! I love The Sign!
He already did The Sign, but yes, Happy Nation, I love that one! Similar to All That She Wants, but even better (my opinion).
Also Wheel Of Fortune from that same album.
Great 90s song. It was a big success in the UK.
Not only in UK, in France too
We have great taste
(Had)
In Sweden in the 90's there was a Ace of Base-hysteria. I still love them❤ They were a big part of my childhood as my mom loved them❤
I thought that Swedish people hated AoB
Some below say that is a bass clarinet.. however as a Bass Clarinet player, that sounds more like a baritone saxophone or a tenor sax playing in lowest notes.. 🤷♀️
That's exactly right, it's a bari-sax! 🎷
I play the tenor sax. It sounded like tenor to me. checked out a live performance and it was a tenor.
Pretty sure that's a saxophone.
It's a synth. Only one member of Ace of Bass plays anything other than keyboards & the other instrument they play is a guitar.
Sounds like an electric saxophone!
Amazing Jay! So, so pleased you're loving Ace of Base! They have so many vibes to their songs and so many sides to them. Here are some of their songs to check out - Waiting For Magic
Unspeakable
Beautiful Life
Wonderful Life
Travel To Romantis
The Juvenile
Into The Night of Blue
Man, I could go on...keep doing these videos and spreading the positivity!
don't forget Lucky Love
"Don't Turn Around" has to be on there as well. I would also put "Wheel of Fortune", "Happy Nation", "Living in Danger", "Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry", 'Would You Believe", "Life is a Flower", "Hallo Hallo", "C'est la vie (Always 21)", and "Beautiful Morning". What a great band. Sorely underrated in the States.
I whip you all! How can't you remember THE SIGN?
'Would you believe' and 'Everytime it rains' are very good two songs.
This one, The Sign and It’s a Beautiful Life are the only songs I know from them they were a good group 🔥👍
I bet you know "Don't Turn Around" too. :)
@@MRoyClark oh yeah forgot about that one
Pretty much everything else they did is just as good. There are loads of album tracks that could easily have been hit singles.
They had so many hits in the 90s, Don't Turn Around, Living In Danger, Wheel Of Fortune ( amazing!!!), Happy Nation, Beautiful Life, Lucky Love, Cruel Summer, Life Is A Flower. They were the Swedish Supergroup of the 90s, wrote, produced all their own stuff.
Nope, Roxette were still more popular well into the late 90’s. Regardless, Ace of Base were brilliant.
@@alkerz5416 Not in the US. The biggest Roxette album peaked at #12 in the US and went Platinum. The biggest Ace Of Base album peaked at #1, was the biggest selling album of 1994, made the Guiness Book Of Records and went 9 Times Platinum in the US. Roxette were more late 80s, very early 90s. Their last US Top Ten was in 1991, Ace Of Base still had one in 1998.
@@Marc-zi5cq ok, however your view is based upon US charts and sales. That is ultimately irrelevant. No one cares about what US record companies thought as South America, Africa, Europe, Australasia and Asia promoted both bands fairly and Roxette were much more revered overall. Roxette outsold Ace of Base and have more well known songs.
@@alkerz5416 Annoyingly, you're right lol. Ace of Base is the #3 best selling Swedish band. Roxette is #2.
@@Marc-zi5cq The Sign/Happy Nation album was certified by the Guinness Book Of World Records as the best selling debut album of all time, twice. Obviously, another act has surpassed that by now.
This song was huge here and reached Number 1 in Australia in 1993. I can't believe it's been 28 years since!
That sound you are asking about was a digital synthesizer imitating a saxophone (maybe a Yamaha DX-7?), and a sinewave synth, imitating a flute or recorder. What you see in videos from the 80s and early 90s is often not what you hear on the records, though. Synthesizers still showed up on hits in the 90s, but not in videos. Ace of Base was definitely a 90s act, too, and they were 100% electronic. Most of their hits were from that first album, The Sign (1993, known as Happy Nation in other countries). "All That She Wants" (1993) was the first US hit, and fit in with a lot of other Reggae-flavored hits on US radio in the early-to-mid-90s. "Don't Turn Around" (1994, a cover of Reggae act, Aswad), "The Sign" (1994), and "Living in Danger"(1995) were the other US hits from the debut album. Later hits included Europop song "Beautiful Life" (1995) and a cover of Bananarama's "Cruel Summer" (1998).
In the last decade or so, the band has gotten attention and scrutiny for what appear to be Neo-Nazi, white supremacist, and antisemitic themes and overtones in several of their lyrics and some of their videos (including "All That She Wants"), with pretty damning evidence of former involvement in Neo-Nazi organizations among the group's members. I'm not trying to litigate the legitimacy of their current involvement and I can't pretend to know more than what anyone can find online. But I definitely recommend that anyone who reads this at least check out Vice News's reporting on this from 2013 or so and decide for themselves. Personally, I think a lot of my favorite artists are deeply unlikeable people, and I'm still figuring out where I stand on separating the art from the artist and figuring out when, and where, and how to draw whatever lines in the sand. But in the meantime, all the synth-Reggae fake-ABBA nonsense of that first album is Pop perfection.
One of the best pop songs of the 90s.
Ace of Base were so so good!
Forgot how much I like this song so it was fun to re- discover it right along with you
Their producer was called Denniz PoP, he was the mentor for Max Martin. Unfortunately he died of cancer a couple of yesrs after this. RIP
I listened to my Ace of Base album over and over and over.....knew every single word
Who else went and dug through their old cassettes/cds to find this album 😆
Will never stop loving Ace of Base.
You know they're neo-nazis, right? But like actual nazis, not just a euphamism.
@@TwoTonTaft No this is a big exaggeration of an old story from the 80s. AoB never wrote songs about politics.
That sound is probably a bass clarinet or sax, or a synth keyboard of those instruments.
Its a freakin 🎷 saxaphone. The Blonde is Lynn. The Brunnete is Jen. The original line up for the band. Euro pop the thing in the early 90's.
@@Ozzy_2014 Not so sure that's an actual Saxophone, My 20+ yr. old Yamaha synthesizer has that sound - also, it's short in duration, and played only once or twice. On the other hand, I may be talking out of my ass, and you're correct.
@@R777-RLM You can see it briefly in the video
@@KarolynHerreraBookEditor Seeing an instrument in a music video doesn't mean it was played on the track.
@@drakocarrion Exactly, a lot of videos show an actual instrument being played, especially in the early 80's when most people had never seen, or even heard of a synthesizer. Actually, it seems like the average person (now) hasn't either.
I sang along with this song/video! Fun memory! Glad you liked it!
I always thought of them as our generations ABBA.❤️
That's what I wanted to say. They were indeed compared.
Huge hit!! Great group - Ace of Base.. 👌
Yes. 90s dance. I danced to this in the 90s. Love this song.
There was a 12 inch version of this and dozens of remixes done - so yeah it was in the clubs. :)
Omg thank you I am not embarrassed Ace of base are my favourite band! Their music is like Prozac it just makes me so happy! The summer of 1993 everyone was blasting ace of base!
In the last days summer started in Germany and daily they play this song again at the radio. I always sing and dance, same feeling like in the 90s.
This is the 3rd song whose reaction I am watching, that u've reacted to in the last 3 days and dude, you are playing my Playlist. Bravo 👏🏽
I dunno about anyone else, but I always took the lyrics of this song literally. She wants you do be the father of her next kid. Always creeped me out a bit.
🤣
Exactly! In fact I know a couple of women who did just that. Used a guy for his half of a child and never saw the guy again. Harsh!
Same! I pictured her with ten kids and still going out. Even when I purposely tried to look at it as some girl having fun no matter who it hurts, I kept thinking “…but, the kids”.
me too! 😂
I saw it more as more of a one night stand. This was the 90's one night stand timeframe
Yesssss!!! I loved this group back in the day.
I still listen to their first album for some feel good 90's pop :)
I was 13 when this came out and me and my 2 mates used to play it non stop! Their best song!
Please check out their songs "Cruel Summer" & "Don't turn around"
If you want a great 90s dance track (and you haven't done it yet) La Bouche "Be My Lover". It will definitely get you moving. Also Crystal Waters "100% Pure Love"
You got this song right 🎼🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
This was a MASSIVE song in the early 90's in my early teens and i F,CKING loved it! :-) My neighbor above me felt the same way(Lee Butler) and would have it on continuous loop all day, EVERY day!
Aparantly they used to test their music in nightclubs without lyrics to see the reaction of the crowd to see what parts of music made people dance and what not, they fine tuned the music this way until they found the ideal rhythm before adding the lyrics for the final song.
This is the personification of the 90s era. Great music, fashion,TV,films, culture need I go on🏴🏴
Ace of Base from Sweden! Loved the song back then!
If you were born in the 80's or very early 90's, you know all their songs. They were massive.
I also had a massive crush on the blonde one lol.
Classic mid 90's tune. That sound is an emulated sax on whatever synth/keyboard they were using for the recording.
omg this is a totally forgotten song, it was a big hit in back in the I think early 90's. this sounds more like a reggae beat.
Used to listen to Ace of Base back in the early 90’s as I got ready to go to the club. Great beat! ❤️
Sweden's been producing the best pop music and artists, since forever.
My friend's keyboard in 1995 came with like 500 classical pieces programmed in it...and this.
This was the very first CD I ever received I was like 13 I got it for Christmas
Love this whole album
A huge hit in the 90s, they played it everywhere in my country - at every party.
Back to my clubbing days with this. The ABBA comparison is also to do with the fact that both bands are Swedish
Beautiful voice
I remember a dear friend that played this song none stop in 92... she lived it.. bring back happy memories.. peace 🙏
Man, I love this song. And the lead singer is gorgeous. Glad I grew up on 90s music :)
Love your ractions! I agree with others suggesting that now you're ready to be introduced to another great 90s band: Everything But The Girl. "Missing" was a big hit!
Big Big Hit .this was playing every where when it came out (Reggae Fusion) ..
My sister loves Ace of Base. I love them too! Good memories with this song of when I was young listening to music with my sister in her room. I know all the good 90's music because of her! ❤
My 90s !!! 💖😀💖😀 lots of memory with this song
Danced my ass off to this at the teenage discos back in the day! 😂 💃
I'm in love with the both singers, their are gorgeous 😍😍
Can I just say how cool this community is to discuss whether it’s a baritone sax or a synthesizer? I love it!! I thought baritone sax, but don’t even care if I’m wrong. Just ❤️ people talking music! I’m just singing the back-up riff “is another baaaaaa-by, yeah!”
'Beautiful Life' is probably the most 'dance-y' song of theirs. Definitely check it out. Catchy as hell... 🔥😂
I have to disagree. This song ALWAYS got people moving on the dance floor-better beat, so easier to dance to.
I forgot about this group…
Now I’ll have that chorus in my head all day.
Thanks Jayvee! 🥴
Such a song!! This song is one of the most important pop songs in the last three decades! It’s a classic!
I grew up listening to Ace of Base because of my older sister. It gives me such nostalgia I love it!
I was just a little guy when this song came out, but I remember it playing all the time in the hair salon my parents were running back then.
RAll That She Wants is a single by Ace of Base from the album Happy Nation, first released in 1992. It is the group's biggest hit and has sold 'approximately 4 million copies worldwide. The single was number one in sixteen countries and was a top ten hit in large parts of the world. It is the group's only number one in the UK singles chart.
In the sixth season of So much better, Ison & Fille did an interpretation of the song.... 🔊🔊🔊🥰🎧🔥👍
This was in every school disco and summer party back then! Massive hit!
One of my favorite groups in the 90's.
When they were a hit in the 90's, they were always referred as the new ABBA (both Swedish) just like the Oasis as the new Beattles (both British). I listen to both group during my teenage years.
Ace Base It’s beautiful life
Jayvee, I recommend you another HUGE HIT of Ace of Base, Happy Nation.
Happy Nation - Ace of Base.
I love Reggae music! This is very reggae!❤️
I'm pretty sure the instrument you are asking about is a tenor saxophone, possibly a baritone saxophone.
Was it really a sax? Or was it a synthesizer?
@@mbenoit77 I'm pretty sure that's a baritone saxophone.
This was my anthem in my 1st year in high school 1992 ❤️👍
Pls react to Aswad: Don’t turn around , Best of my love
Right on Jay…..this song hits hard 👍
This was the first single Ace of Base released in North America. It led to The Sign and Don't Turn Around.
The album was the first to have 3 #1 singles on the Billboard Top 40 chart and these songs led other accolades that have been surpassed by only a few newer acts.
I suggest Living In Danger and Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry for future reactions.
The instrument you were questioning was tenor sax...very popular in pop songs late 80s to late 90s.
Everybody was listening to this constantly in the early 90's. It was a hit.
It was all about the BASS
2:40 looks like he is holding a bassoon, which could make a sound like that. Also looks like he is holding a saxophone in some parts, but it also sounds quite synthesized.
Both Abba and ace of base from my country Sweden 🇸🇪 many good artists from here
Early 90's and the keyboard sound was an electronic baritone saxophone
If you want 90s dance you have to listen to Faithless - INSOMNIA. Still an anthem today. Perfection...... "I can't get no sleep"
I don't know anything about Ace of Base. But I remember when the song came out, I liked it right from the start. The chorus has a great hook.
I adore you 1. you are not afraid of european dance hits from the 90ies (and yes „dance“ was HUGE Europe!) :-)! 2. you’re listening to unknown/unusual songs that others don’t react to! 3. you’re authentic-we, your „crowd“ are not asked/forced to spend money for a request!
But besides that: listen to dance music that was the beginning of a new music era: FAITHLESS INSOMNIA!
I promise: you won’t regret-something antique and still up to date at the same time ;-)
😁Anyone else old who remembers when this song came out & it’s was everywhere…then, and this was seen as a major compliment, Ace of Base was called “the new Abba”?!😃 And that was exciting?!😂 Apparently
Three major exports from Sweden- ABBA - Roxette and Ace of Base. All huge in their own way. They were BIG in the 90s, I bought their albums and was not disappointed. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Im a hard rock/metal fan by preference choice but love all kinds of music. This record had a spot in my CD collection upon its release. Just saw a documentary on Netflix that credits Roxette and this band as the 2 Swedish groups that would open the door for future Pop artists from the US to head to Sweden to work with writers and Producers.
The producer Denniz Pop (R.I.P.) was inspired by reggae when he produced this song.
Gotta love Ace of Base. Yeah they would be 90s dance...they had this during the Summer and yeah great song in the day
Great reaction. Another good summer track to check out is
Paul Janz ~ Rocket To My Heart
Love this song, can listen every day ❤❤❤❤
This was their first big hit. I also love Happy Nation and The Sign.
