How to get to Montserrat Mountain | Daytrip from Barcelona

  • To reach Montserrat Take a Train from Plaza de España and then the Aeri de Montserrat Cable Car to the Monastery of Montserrat Spain. Explore the beauty of this holy place & experience great views of Cataluña.
I'll also Show you a Hike to Sant Jeroni the highest peak of Montserrat.
Looking for a nice hike near Barcelona? Montserrat is the place to go! Meaning “serrated mountain”, this massive hunk of rock rises abruptly from the surrounding countryside, crowned with pillar-like peaks and a picturesque abbey perched high on a cliff. There are many hiking options on Montserrat Mountain - the most popular of which are around the Santa Maria de Montserrat abbey (aka the Montserrat monastery).
The walk described here is to the highest point, Sant Jeroni. It’s a lovely climb up through forest and scrub, with rocky pillars towering all around. Apparently, on a clear day, you can see from the Pyrenees to the island of Mallorca in the Mediterranean Sea, but it was too hazy the day I was there.

Big thanks to your TH-cam VDO. We just came back from Barcelona last week. It took us only 30 sec to purchase the tickets from the tkt booth. FYI the tkt price has increased to 25 euro.

Hi, I'm going to visit Montserrat next Saturday and am convinced after watching your video that I don't need to buy tickets online. Just a minor point, the train between Monistrol de Montserrat and Montserrat (appears at 7:40) is actually called Rack Railway not a funicular. There is a Sant Joan Funicular to take you from Montserrat to the mountain top and needs another ticket (16 Euro for a round-trip ticket). That's why I'm a bit confused in the beginning. Anyway, thank you for making this wonderful video. Regards from New York City.

      Hi planning to go to
Montserrat. What’s the earliest train ride from Barcelona towards Montserrat? What time do we leave Montserrat if we want to be back in Barcelona before 6pm because we have another tour to go to? Thanks in advance 😊

@@christinenebril9951 We took the train from Pl. Espanya to Montserrat at around 10 am and coming back at around 4 pm. Instead of spending time inside the monastery (starting from May 1st this year, you need to have an appointment to enter the monastery if you are not a resident and I strongly advise to book it online in advance if you intend to go inside the monastery), we took the funicular up the mountain and did some hiking. The weather in May was wonderful and certainly not as hot as now and the view was simply amazing. You can get the exact train schedule simply by using google map, input the starting point and the destination and the start time you prefer. This was how we did it.

Now I can appreciate even better that the four times I was in Spain, in my much younger years, I was able to visit Monserrat by personal car because of friends living in one of the nearby towns who knew of my own devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Black Madonna.

I didn't quite get the first part...
Can you take any train from central Barcelona to Montserrat?
Is the return ticket valid for as many cable rides as you want until you take the train back to Barcelona, and is it valid for more than one day or is It only a 1-day ticket?
Is it only a one-way route with the railway and cable car or are there different routes in the mountains of Montserrat?
