So helpful! This does show me that I have a lot more I could be trying out for than I thought. Although I’m still just starting out, I’m glad I saw this video now so I don’t shut myself into a box.
Hi James, I've just found your channel and been making my way through all your videos, they're so good! Love the jazz music too 😁 I've made myself a list of different areas of illustration to focus on, and I'm going to set myself some briefs to update my portfolio. Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the videos 😊
Your videos are so helpful James! I just saw your Instagram live interview today with 3x3 and I was like wait a second...I know him! haha. Thanks for all the tips
My last private commission was a design for a memorial stone! It was later engraved by someone else. After a bit of research I was shocked to find out how much illustration is used on graves, particularly among Jewish and Eastern European community. And it pays fairly good too. Who'd ever guess that ;))
Hello, thank you for your good video. as an illustrator, I have my own style, but it doesn't seem very commercial and practical. do you think it is right to use different designs and techniques? or is this not a professional way?
Hey, it depends what your goal is. Some styles make money, and some don't. If you want to make a career of being a commercial illustrator, then you'll need a commercial style.
Hello James, I am a Paper illustrator and I approach some agencies for Editorial. I am a newbie in the approach so I learned to apply to agencies but just I want to clear to approach the magazine for Editorial work do I have to contact the art director of that magazine? Sorry if you find it a dumb question 😅
