  • In preparation for Christmas project season I upgraded my sanding game with a couple belt/disc sanders from Rikon. In this video I unbox the Rikon 50-112 4”x36” belt/6” disc sander and give it a quick test; I’ll do a longer review video after I’ve had some time to use it.
Check out the unboxing for the companion Rikon 50-161VS variable speed 1”x30” belt/6” disc sander here:

I like putting 40 grit belt on, flipping machine upside down with belt on floor, turn switch on, then plug in and watch it take off like a Battle Bot !

No it want do the job . Mine has broke down twice . I’ve repaired myself but it is like pulling teeth to get any info or help from Boston where I ordered the parts which is another problem in it self . I wouldn’t buy a Rikon tool again simple fix if the parts were the same that go with the tool

That's no good. I'll have to wait and see how it goes for me.

Have the central machinery floor model which I've had for many years. Lacks dust collection which is a health issue. Fine sanding dust floats throughout the shop. Newer version has dust port set up for circular and belt sanding. Not available if you want to replace it. So I can't get an upgrade. Tracks well and cast iron. My preference as the central machinery version of this had trouble tracking with finer grit(320) belts. Returned it no problem. Thanks for posting.

I came up with a good dust collection solution, for the belt side at least. Maybe I’ll do a video on it.

I just got the Bauer for $99 and Rockler is showing the Rikon at $229?!? Probably says more about Rockler than anything else though.

For sure. The Bauer is on sale this weekend and it is a better deal if you don't take the warranty into account. But five years vs 90 days is a big difference.

How about you use it for a few months then REVIEW IT.. I feel like I just wasted 6 min watching you open a box. I learned nothing.

I have the Ryobi version. It works great. Only issue it’s has rattling sound that bugs me, otherwise it’s great.

Interesting, did you try changing the belt?

You need to take it apart the rattling sound is the pulley not lining up correctly or it is about to come off
