    I really like this machine. It didn’t take too long to assemble and loading the software was easy.
    However, learning how to use the software and how to make adjustments for more intricate designs took some research and experimenting.
    Once I learned some basics, I could be more creative and try designs and pictures.

      I agree! I do enjoy learning new software though. I want to learn how to make those multi level wood designs. They have a very cool 3D appeal to them. I see free patterns out there but I am starting simple. Lots of fun. :)

      Thank you very much Kc g, always make sure you get an air assist when you get a laser. They are very useful to get a great clean cut and engraving. Thank you again and let us know what laser you decided to get when your done if want to share. Thank you.

    There is a little bit of a learning curve, figuring out software and such, but once you get it it's great! I'm having so much fun making stuff and finding new patterns I want to try.

    I will start off this review by saying, this is the first laser engraver, I have ever laid my hands on. I went into this as a complete novice. I am a woodworker, so I have been eyeing the engravers for some time, but most of the larger ones are pretty pricey. This laser engraver has a great price point at under $300.
    The one that I received was the LU2-2, which is the lowest powered laser head. This laser head is the least powerful of the three, but I have found that it does a great job engraving plywood and pine. If you're looking at engraving harder woods, like for example hickory, you might be better off ordering the LU2-4. The manufacturer also offers a third laser head which is for cutting wood. I personally plan on adding the cutting laser head to my arsenal in the future. I do not believe that Amazon offers the laser heads to be purchased individually, but hopefully that will change in the future.
    As far as the LU2-2, which I received, I was extremely impressed with this laser. To start off, The laser comes pretty much assembled. The only assembly that is needed is inserting the laser head into its holding bracket. You also have the choice to mount the entire laser assembly onto a board. The manufacturer does supply four mounting brackets for doing this, but the hardware is not included. I personally did mount my laser to a piece of wood, in order to give it some rigidity, and to protect the surface below it, that it is sitting on. The only other Assembly that is required is connecting two wires. I would say in total the assembly took me 5 minutes, and it probably took me about 10 minutes to attach it to a board.
    As for the software, the manufacturer suggest two different brands of software in their literature. The first is LightBright, which is a paid software. The manufacturer of the software does allow for a 30-day trial period. This was the first software that I attempted to use, I personally found it a bit overwhelming. There is quite a bit going on in the program, so you definitely would need to watch several TH-cam tutorials to master the software. I then decided to try the second software which was GRBL. GRBL is a free software, and I found it extremely easy to use. There are some great TH-cam tutorials out there. It took me all of 10 minutes to figure out how to use it. The only cork that I found with the GRBL software was that I needed to use the setting COM5, instead of the default COM3.
    I have already used the laser to burn dozens of Christmas ornaments on pine tree branch slices. I simply use JPEGs that I find online or create. I have found that when burning on pine or plywood, If I use a max power of 100% and a speed of 1700, my images come out great.
    So far I absolutely love playing with this laser engraver. I can't wait to find out how far it's limitations will go. Thus far it has handled everything that I have thrown at it. This would be a great laser engraver for any beginner. I highly recommend it.

      Thanks for the info. Sharing your laser settings is always helpful to everyone. Thank you! They now have a fourth laser module, the one I have which is the 10 watt laser. Plus they have been fine tunning the machine as well. It no longer has an separate ground wire on the top of the module. It is all combined into one cable. Aufero seems to be constantly upgrading their products. Thank you for the info. :)

    Good review, especially on the leather part. As a leather worker I would like to know if that laser is someting to consider buying. I can see it can save me a lot of time cutting the leather with a laser instead by hand. I wonder if the laser can cut like 1 mm holes too. Also saves a lot of time. Anyway, thank you for the time you spend on the video. (Subscribed)

      Thank you very much! I will find out if it cuts 1mm holes this weekend. That is important for cutting out stitching holes. I was surprised at how small the details of engraving can be with a laser. This is an important question in my opinion. I will do a test. Thank you for the question.

      Hi Len, I did some test today until it started raining. As you know I only work with the laser with leather outside do to the smell. I have to get an encloser. I am curious if they will actually work with the smell of leather. I have to assume so. The short answer is "yes" it does cut 1mm holes for stitching (on 7-8oz, tomorrow I will try on 10oz)) but there are a few other factors I want to bring to the attention of you and other leather crafters that might have the same question as you. It will be much easier to show you then try to explain it. Plus, It is important to know what the capabilities of a diode laser has with leather. We already know you can create very cool designs with the laser but cutting out patterns and stitching holes in my opinion is high up on the need to know factor. Thank you again for your question, it was inspiring. :)

    Hello. What you think about sculpin s10?

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and thank you for the question. I do not own a SCULPFUN S10 Laser Engraving Machine but I took a quick look at it to see if I can help. It looks like a well built machine. It has a .08mm focus which is typical for a 10w laser and is what my Aufero laser 2 10w machine has. My Atomstack is a 5.5w machine but the laser is a point of .02mm which allows for a detailed engraving and cuts pretty well for a 5watt machine. If I was needing to do a bunch of cuttings I would use my 10watt Aufero. It seems to come with a air assist nozzle like my Aufero 2. You will need to buy a pump.
      My advice would be to see what the best price is and also get in touch with tech support from all the companies and see who responds and is the most helpful. It seems a bunch of these companies have very good products so it really might come down to which company seems to be the most supportive of their product, easy to get in touch with and friendly. I hope this helped. Thank you.
      Здравствуйте и спасибо за вопрос. У меня нет лазерного гравировального станка SCULPFUN S10, но я быстро осмотрел его, чтобы понять, могу ли я чем-то помочь. Это похоже на хорошо собранную машину. Он имеет фокусное расстояние 0,08 мм, что типично для 10-ваттного лазера, и это то, что есть у моего лазера Aufero 2 10 Вт. Мой Atomstack - это машина мощностью 5,5 Вт, но лазер представляет собой точку 0,02 мм, что позволяет выполнять детальную гравировку и довольно хорошо режет для машины мощностью 5 Вт. Если бы мне нужно было сделать кучу черенков, я бы использовал свой 10-ваттный Aufero. Кажется, он поставляется с насадкой для подачи воздуха, как мой Aufero 2. Вам нужно будет купить насос.
      Я бы посоветовал узнать, какая цена самая лучшая, а также связаться со службой технической поддержки всех компаний и посмотреть, кто ответит и окажется наиболее полезным. Похоже, что у многих из этих компаний есть очень хорошие продукты, поэтому действительно может возникнуть вопрос о том, какая компания больше всего поддерживает их продукт, с ней легко связаться и она дружелюбна. Надеюсь, это помогло. Спасибо.

    I've heard that laser + leather produces some pretty bad odors. What was your experience?

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      The wood is bearable but I made sure I did the leather tests outside. Good thing this unit is easy to move around and I have a laptop so I set up on my porch. To answer your question, leather is very smelly. It would of been ok if it smelled like bacon but it doesn't. Leather smells like burnt hair. I wonder if a good leaser encloser with an exhaust system would do the trick. That would be great! That will be my next purchase. Now I have to decide which one to get. It is important that it actually works. :) Thank you!

      @@baronleathercraft That makes sense, most of the time I see people using a laser with leather is with something like a Glowforge. It probably wouldn't take much to enclose what you have with a fan ducted to the exterior. Thanks for the info!
