    Man I have to say what I like best about the Mark V is the complexity and features...that's what make it so damn versatile! The two different EQ options, switchable rectifier circuits, solo mode, mute switch and master volume all get used on mine regularly. The Mark VII sounds great but I'll keep my Mark V.

      L S Well I have to counter that with what I like best with my 85 fully optioned S O B is its simplicity. 7 knobs no push pull, no modes, no stacked boards inside. Very simple to play, very simple to fix. After all it's 38 yrs old.

    • @jayl5941

      @@jayl5941 the Mark V has two different eq options per channel (sliders or contour knob), switchable rectifier circuits per channel, solo mode, master mute switch and master volume. It appears they took all of those out for the Mark VII.

    My guess is that part of the reason for skipping the mark six is that the name Mark six is literally the holy grail of saxophones, so if one were to search Mark six on the Internet, you would be inundated with results for the Saxophone, so it makes sense to avoid competing with the same key word or search phrase

      @komeen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrc2662 Hi Mr. C. They're wildly different animals. I love my TC 100 but the Mark is definitely much more versatile and organic/natural feeling. I have the Rev A series (the first) and to call it touch sensitive is an understatement. The cleans on the Mark are angelic and immaculate. I find the TC can be a bit boxy/honky sounding even with the mids pulled back. I added a boogie EQ pedal to the TC and it helps to liven up the sound overall. I actually prefer my Mark but for strait up grind the TC is hard to beat. I would recommend a mark over a rectifier if you're looking to expand your palette. Hope this helps. Good luck!

      @@komeen that’s great, much appreciated. Tbh even finding a Mesa here in the UK these days is a real challenge. Part of me wants that 80s/90s metal thing with ‘that’ treadplate on the Recto, but I hear you about the Mark, it’s clearly a magnificent amp. Guess another factor is that I’m a pedal nut and maybe I just really need a Mesa Recto to do the punchy brutality thing to perfection, but rely on a clean amp (my classic reverb sig) for all my pedals, leaving no need for a Mark. Nice problem to have…or it would be if anywhere sold them :(

    They could’ve done more with the amp. It’s a mark five with modes shifted around on the panel and a few exchanged in and out. They should’ve incorporated a second graphic EQ like the jp2c and kept extreme mode from the mark V. Or did a mark IV reissue with 2 GEQ.

    @vaportrails7943 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    After owning one for about 9 months, and a Mark V before that, I have some thoughts. The only thing I really miss from the Mark V is Extreme mode, which to me was a perfect modern version of the classic Mark sound. Everything else they cut out is not missed. There were a bunch of tweaks that were nice to have, but ultimately not needed. Including the rectifier tube. The Mark V was overkill in many ways. The Mark VII is a simpler, purer amp, more like the IIC+, which is to say, at its core, a modified high gain Fender with Tube Screamers built in to every channel.
    The IIB mode is good. The Mark VII mode is tough to find a use for, for me. I would have rather had two copies of Channel 3, with Crunch on Channel 1, and Mark V Extreme instead of Mark IIB on Channel 3.
    So it’s the pure thing you’re looking for in a Mark series amp, and then it adds modern benefits on top. It’s smaller and lighter than the Mark V, and has all of the DI/IR features you need for silent recording, practicing, or going direct live into a PA. The only thing that would make it more complete would be to add more effects, like chorus and delay. At that point, the only reason to want a modeler would be size.
    This was, for the most part, very smart design by Mesa, right down the middle of what the market needs. I personally would have done the few things I mentioned above, but I’m happy with it. There are fewer tones than the Mark V, but they almost all sound better. The IIC+ mode is indistinguishable from the old ones. The cleans are amazing, and sound like an HD Fender, much more so than the Mark V, which sounds more “processed” due to all of its circuits. A very solid entry into the series.

    I just played the Mark VII today at guitar center for a couple of hours. Nice amp. Great cleans. Great high gain and lead.
    It was surprising how quickly the sounds went from clean to high gain without the in between overdriven saturation harmonics I am used to from my Mark V35 and Mark IV.
    I enjoy using my Mark V35 to cop guitar sounds from records without needing to use distortion/overdrive pedals. The Mark VII seemed less flexible for that.
    I went ahead and ordered a used Mark V 90 watt head today instead because it felt like a good time to do that. I hope I like it a lot. The only thing I have not liked about my Mark V35 is having to manually toggle the switch to go from clean to crunch. I use both of these modes frequently so three channels will be great.

    Can't wait for the 25&35 Watt models to come out. I have no intention of getting one, but I would like a Mark V if I can find one at the right price. They should start dropping in price after a year or so. I'm not a high gain player, buti bought a Soldano SLO-1 preamp module for the Synergy, and I think I've used my Jubilee a few times since getting the SLO, and even then it was for gigs.
    I've been repairing amps for a fifteen years, and instituted a "No Boogie" policy not long afterwards, it's not worth the headache trying to hunt down issues to diagnose problems. Looking at the front and back of this amp I don't see that changing anytime soon, but it's nice to see things getting a bit more simplified, if not simple.

    I'm kinda confused why they didn't put in another geq like in the JP2C. A second geq would make the amp way more flexible. Mesa even removed the eq presets that the old MKV had and even the Output, Solo and Sendlevel controls are missing. Featurewise this amp really seems like a step backwards from the old MKV.

    Ok... After looking into a few articles and videos, I think my overall impression is that if I didn't already have a Mark IV, I would want this. For me, what it's making me realize is that I just wish my Mark IV wasn't 32 years old and unreliable to count on for live performances these days. Do I spend $4k for an updated replacement, especially considering I'm not even gigging at the moment? No, I don't think so. I think I'll just work on my ventilation in my rack rig to see if I can prevent the overheating issues I'm having, rather than retiring the IV in favor of the VII. The only thing I really *wish* I had is the low wattage setting so I can push the amp for an SRV blues type tone in the same amp as my metal tones.

    • @frontline205

      If you use a reactive load box like the Fryette Amplification Power Load IR then you can play the amp at full power in a home setup - the reactive load box will then output a quieter signal to you studio monitors with our without an cab impulse response or DI into you DAW.
      Gets all the sound of your tubes without being loud in the room - independent volume control etc

    • @DanielBobke
      @DanielBobke ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ttguitarnoob True, but the way those work in a Boogie vs other amps is different as I understand it and then you have the graphic eq added to it for each channel. Mark V is a dream if you have the patience to get to know it. People aren't exaggerating when they say it needs some learning.
      They are like a high performance car, if you use it correctly it will drive like a dream but it is entirely possible to make it do awful things, something which is not anywhere near as much the case on a Vox.

    Not having a global master volume is gonna be a real dealbreaker for me. I like having some stage volume, and the way to not piss off the sound engineer is to crank the channel volumes on my Marshall JVM to get the full on tone and keep the two master volumes at about 9 o’clock (or 9:30 for my guitar solo channel to have a slight volume boost for that). That won’t be an option here, as far as I can tell.
    If the Mark V had all this new tech that updates it to 2023 like they did here, that would’ve been sick. Ah well. Still a nice amp and I’m sure it will get profiled to death for the Kemper/QC/AxeFX crowd
