- Today we help a buddy put up all of his firewood for this winter. We take the tractor, grapple, side by side and Eastonmade axis over to help him process up some big nasty tree service wood

Neighbors helping neighbors, the world needs more of that.
I agree that neighbours helping each other. What I would’ve done is collect all the last season wood together in one heap then put fresh wood together instead of mixing the firewood
I thought so in my younger days, but the older I get the more I realize people only do things for something in return. they pretend it's just good graces, and maybe I'm autistic, but I wish people would just communicate what they want.
Maybe the generations before did them dirty before they died, but I'm not playing the game.

Something very therapeutic about watching someone make and stack firewood.

Nice work. Two things I was taught by my father and grandfather when I was more of a hindrance than a help… First: when you start out lay two smaller logs alongside each other and lay the logs you are cutting in the valley. That way you can cut right through without ever hitting the dirt. And Second, never pile firewood over your head. You might be healthy and feeling good when you stack it but you may not be when you use it or the wifey might have to get it because of unforeseen circumstances and pulling a chunk of firewood onto your noggin ain’t no fun… even less fun if she is the one getting clobbered by it.
That stash is the most beautiful sculptural installation I've ever seen! Only truly appreciated by those who know how integral a well stocked pile is to life in the mountains.

Where was this device back in the 60’s when I was a kid. I used a 5 lb slug hammer and a wedge along with a bow saw

Adam, you're a great friend for helping your buddy out like that, especially considering that you took all of YOUR equipment over to his house to help him. Kudos to you! I sure like the look of the "firewood walls" that he's got on each side of his driveway. I personally don't store firewood like that, I use IBC totes for practicality and ease of moving them around. But I sure like the look of those massive firewood walls that he's got!

That splitter is awesome!!! I have a BUNCH of 12’ long 5-6 ‘ round logs I had dropped off from a buddy, mostly maple, it’s so hard by myself but I’m working my way through them!!!! Lol
I like the firewood going down the driveway. It’s a cool look on the approach of the house. I hope he gets to the “old” firewood on the bottom before it rots!
Right, needs to get some pallets or at least some scrap lumber to prop them up off the ground a bit.

That looks like how I got started in selling a little firewood. I quickly realized I had split way too much for myself and before I could burn it all, it was probably going to start rotting on me. So, I split it again, smaller, to sell off my overstock. Axis did a great job. so nice having a log lift and a quick cycle time. I use a splitter that connects to my tractors 3pt hitch and hydraulics, no lift and very slow. 🥵
Great video, Adam. You and your friend got a heck of a workout, the axis got a heck of a workout, and the Kioti got a heck of a workout. This video proves to me, once again, that the axis is the ultimate log splitter.
That’s a lot of nicely stacked firewood. And Working with a friend is always enjoyable.
Impressive! The Eastonmade really shined on this job. Not many splitters could handle 34" rounds and the log lift didn't flinch. Also as a fellow Kioti owner (although much smaller CS series) you tractor moved the stumps. Great video Adam and you are truly a good friend to your buddy. Keep up the good work.

if I tried stacking that way in NW Oregon, it'd be a battle to keep the weeds, and blackberry in particular off of the wood.
We always humped it out by hand. Never used a lot splitter til the year dad died. We cut two trucks of wood in about three hours. I was MAD because of what we could have done, but am fearful for all the time we had together. But definitely will have the right equipment next time!

Nice job, Neighbor Adam. That was a great commercial for the Axis. That lift on the side looks like it wouldn't be super strong. Those huge pieces of Ash proved me wrong. It brought those up no problem. The ability to split it without hesitation too, was very impressive. Nice job getting so much work done. I bet you were sore for a couple days after.
That's a lot of wood. When a person comes to help. You work twice as hard as normal. Or try to do 2 moves to their 1. Good on you Adam.

Do not know if this will help but it can not hurt is if you spray some Silicon Spray onto the Bed of the Splitter and that way it should make those big Logs slide easier, give it a go and see how or if it works.

Holy shit you guys banging that out. I just got back from Maine took my big box 30 ton up to my buddies house and split a load of beech horrible wood super stringy. Hopefully it burns hot. Your neighbor had some nasty stuff.

Wow, I've split firewood, but not that HUGE. That wood splitter showed that ASH who's boss !! That machine works like butter. Amazing how much wood you cut for your friend. That's got to be at least if not more than 10 or 15 cords? We cut wood up North here in Montreal for heating.

The efficiency of the Axis is shown how you can make multiple cuts then rotate your piece 90° and make more cuts. This machine is far more efficient than any other than I see on TH-cam. This is a great advertisement for the Axis.

Since he is using the wood for heating, he can cut down on the bucking and splitting by 20% if his firebox will accept 20" sticks.

I have heated old houses,, I have heated new houses. NOT applicable in this case,, but something to consider. Insulation. Two methods on newer homes. One,, fiberglass is cheap. Fiberglass is so much cheaper than natural gas, wood,,, I have built 12 homes, two of which were for me,, wall framing based upon a 2X10, 9.25 inches on the frame. By the time sheathing, siding , interior,, works out to one foot thick. Hell, you can heat it with a match. You would need 1/3 of that amount of firewood. I know, because I HAVE been there and done that. Second method,, only practical if you are going to replace your windows,, because windows often need the whole house replacement,, and that is the time to make a major change. Strip the exterior to its tar paper or Tyvek. How thick you want to add should be according to your local climate, but the easy addition is 1.5 inches. (2 and 3 inches are just as easy) Tack, nail, screw a 2X3 on the flat (or on edge if you are going for 2.5 inches) around each window and door and on each corner, use a 2X3 in one direction and a 2X4 in the other to give yourself a good stable, straight corner. Nail on top and bottom perimeters. Then go to the center of the wall or any convenient start point,, for an 8 foot tall wall use a 12 foot,,or 10 foot 2X3 nail it on the diagonal formed between the top and bottom perimeters. Take a 24' or 16' wide X 4 or 8 foot long sheet of foam,, your choice of expanded, extruded, poly , or urethane, install above and below that first diagonal purlin, add the next two 2X3s, add the next foam,, etc. custom cuts top and bottom at at the doors and windows. Squirt some canned spray foam in any voids. Apply new windows to the new wall depth, and side as you like. Treat the house once. Expensive, yes, but the labour for treating the house once will be in the same range as cutting and splitting and stacking for just one heating season. But then, after, you need much less firewood for the rest of your life. The greatest single wrong we do when building a house is making thin 4 inch thick walls. They are good enough to hold up the roof, but they absolutely suck (heat) at insulating the house.

Big wood like that is a lot of work even with the proper equipment. I think I would have been sliding Doug's Ball Buddy back in there after breaking those big ash rounds down. Things looked a little sketchy on a few of those splits and I'm not sure if your outstretched arms would have saved you if one of them kicked back on you. Nice that you were helping a friend! I think I could split that wood almost as fast with an axe though, especially when bucked up thinly like that. A lot quieter too. I just put up 5 cords for next winter using an axe, of course my boys helped as well🪵
Someone needs a chain sharpened. It is crazy looking when you hoist those rounds up, they look thin. When you think about it, they would look that way chopping them into 16" lengths.
