Many thanks mate! You answered my question, and I learned something! I'm finally in the process of putting together my set-up. My AT 1200s came in last Friday. Shipment wasn't ready, so I have to go back to store again for pick up. My coffin case arrived tonight! Still shoppin' for a mixer... All the ones I liked are discontinued. I welcome any recommendations. I really don't need much. This has always been a passion of mine since the late '80s. I just want to dig through my crates, and do some mixin' and scratchin', and make a mix CD now and then for fun. PEEECE!
Steve Dee, the founder of beat juggling doesn’t turn his turntables sideways to battle position. He leaves them regular & I’ve never seen him knock the tonearm off, same with Grandmaster Flash. Also, I have my decks in battle position all the time & I’m really just a mixing (techno & electro) dj. I only scratch a bit, I’m just more comfortable with them sideways. Also I saw an interview with Dj Cash Money. He was the first to turn them sideways & he says it’s not battle style but Cash Money style!
There is a 1210 and a 1200 between my keyboard and my monitor so I can watch your vids and practice at the same time! I keep watching the used gear shop to try to find a 3rd reasonable unit that dosen't look completely knackered.
I switched to a battle position in 2005. For me it was more about "downsizing" my equipment. Before that I was using 2 Technics 1210's a 19" mixer and a dual Denon CD player with the controller above the mixer. After switching to Traktor/FinalScratch, I didn't need the CD player anymore. If I had a CD, I could play it from my computer if I had to. Also switched to a 10" mixer. So less gear and the turntables are closer together.
Another thing is the actual platters are closer and more evenly spaced appose to the one on the left being close to the mixer and the one on the right with space for the tone arm and pitch ctrl making it a few inches further away and uneven.
@ravingdave900 Yea I know what your saying but you could still access the pitch fader when mixing in the battle position. I mix @ parties all the time in the battle position. So really it depends how comfortable the user is with either position on there equipment.
@boomkingg i dont do it, but i imagine its to get some friction so can cue or scratch the vinyl. if u have dry hands the vinyl slips and u cant really do spinbacks and stuff.
Thanks I've actually wondered bout that...It's the way I've mine set up and I didn't even know why..hahaha. I was just wonderin if for instance your right handed does that mean you should scratch with your left hand and crossfade with your right. Thanks again!
Another addition i dont think you mentioned is that the turntables are closer together, making it easier to juggle etc (as you dont have to move your arms as much). Also, i just prefer the symetry of the tone arms.
what turntables do u hav at the moment, just wonderin i am a beginner n ive racked up enough money for turntables, mixer and i want to be able to use my computer, ive been looking at technics, wat do u recomend? Thanks
Yes, but mainly with techno, as it is more minimal and there is less going on in each toon. To this day my 12"'s are all over the place, so i hope to get them all togeather and be able to get a set done!
to Davido2005, no they will not skip any less or more , all you are doing is moving the tables 90 degrees, if you set your arm corectly all should be ok ! j
@boomkingg Iv'e never seen a DJ lick their hands and I never really put any thought into it before seeing your question but I guess you may catch me lick a finger tip to get a better grip on the vinyl much like you would to turn a page in a book.
Yea i think u really better off wit da battle position...bcuz n da standard postition u wnt b able 2 do much, Like beat jugglin or reverse scratchin ur better of wit da battle position...gr8 post my dude ; )

To be a good turntabalist you need to be able to use both hand's as well as eachother!
They are in that position because Grand Wizard Rasheen started putting them that way, way back in the early 80's
Will do but the mixer isn't the best for the job, the x fade is too small!!
Thanks, couldn't remember the name. It's been almost a decade since I last heard that song! Cheers!
I sold the sl1200's a few weeks ago : (

@iladelph89 yea but not all dj's scratch. the standard position gives u easier access to the pitch fader, which is more important when mixing dnb :)

Brilliant as always, M8. I keep meaning to ask, do you ever mix with a 3rd turntable?
@ravingdave900 Yea I know what your saying but you could still access the pitch fader when mixing in the battle position. I mix @ parties all the time in the battle position. So really it depends how comfortable the user is with either position on there equipment.

please dont take this as an insult but i love the way you don't care what anyone thinks about you :)

@Siinzx0 used technics 1210's or 1200's if youre on a budget.

What is the song that you're using in this video?
ah yeah Da Funk, is that still available on vinyl? great videos by the way

another reason is that on some turntables there are two buttons on the turntables meaning easy reach
"what is the DeeJay if he can't scratch..."
hehehe :) I'm jokin'
hey ellaskin i think it will be much better if your practice more on turntablism things. you can get good result
Thanks again fro the video jon. A little late tho, i learned about this TT position the hard way. D:
@boomkingg do you lick your fingers to turn a page?
once again, thank you for your help
nice daft punk man but u need to get some crydamoure records on that table.
So thats why DJ's sometimes put the turntables that way!
great!!! your MUCH better at scratching than me, then again i've never really done it properly, just mucked about
@boomkingg For increased grip.
3 t tables and two mixers.
Yea i think u really better off wit da battle position...bcuz n da standard postition u wnt b able 2 do much, Like beat jugglin or reverse scratchin ur better of wit da battle position...gr8 post my dude ; )
@boomkingg get grip. Dry hands are slippy
hiphop = battl style. mixing = mixing style.
for me anyways.
Na, thats more of an adaption that turntable companies made for people using this position.
Sweet DAFT PUNK track! :-)
I'm left handed, help! lol
stay away from scratching m8 ;)
cuekkkkkkkkk
you are uter crap. lol just kidding your better than i am.
