It is always surprising that after all these years I am following you, I still get this urge to pick up my guitar after watching your videos !! Truly inspiring. thanks Paul
My favorite (lead) melodies to play: 1. A Good Morning Melody (Preisner/Możdżer) 2. A Goodnight Melody (ditto) 3. Für Alina [David Arden interpretation] (Arvo Pärt, the two above were inspired by and draw from it) 4. Remo Floats (Craig Safan) 5. Starless (King Crimson) 6. The Violin Song (Tony MacAlpine) 7. Prząśniczka [Piotr Kaczor interpretation] (Moniuszko) 8. Karczmareczka (Anon) 9. Oczy Szeroko Zamknięte (Łzy) 10. Małe Szczęścia (Robert Janson)
When I was playing in a rock band in high school, inevitably something would go wrong at a gig and there'd be a short break while someone was fixing something. That's when I'd pull out the mario theme and give the audience a laugh
Fun fact: The first version of "twinkle twinkle little star" is found in an Italian lute manuscript from 1517 by Vincenzo Capirola. The title is Tientalora, the Melody is more ornamented following renaissance's taste.
The theme from the '60s American sitcom The Munsters--written by Jack Marshall, cousin of the legendary Christopher Parkening. Marshall got him started playing guitar. Thank you, Jack!
"Greensleeves" is the exact same song as "what child is this". That's awesome. I've been on learning christmas songs kick for a minute now and now I have to dive down the rabbit hole of song origins lol.
Fav melodies to play: Twin Peaks theme, Better Call Saul theme, Game of Thrones theme (i'm sensing a pattern). Spanish Caravan, Golden Brown. That Punjabi MCs riff. Mortal Kombat theme. Pink Panther that you mentioned. In the Hall of the Mountain King.
Two of my favorite melodies are The Force Theme from Star Wars and Rohan Theme from The Lord Of The Rings. Both of which I covered on my channel. Such a great and fun topic! One of my favorite things doing on the guitar is playing and arranging melodies and themes. Loved the picks in this video and of course Paul's playing.
Spanish Romance was one of the first songs we worked on back when I learned classical guitar as a child, because it is rather simple but highly effective and just beautiful...
I got interested in guitar in 2000 playing FF9. I heard "Rose Of May" and asked my brother to play it, and he couldnt do it. Now I can play it, only with tabs on screen, but it makes me happy
In the Hall of the Mountain King, comes to mind... There are so many ways you can play it and so much room for embellishments to never get boring. A few friends and I were noodling on the theme for more than 20 mins without our selected audience not getting bored. Highly recommended!
Gaaah! The Ode to Joy melody has an anticipation of one beat on the return to the first theme, and everyone drops it! Please, please, add that little note; it breaks the "squarishness" of the line and adds momentum.
@@nickpearsonuk Of course it does! th-cam.com/video/fEiJwgcawvI/w-d-xo.html The note at exactly 46:25 in the basses, and at 50:34 in the vocal line (and every other time we hear this) is what I'm talking about; it lands before the start of the next measure, and is the magic of this melody.
Spanish romance is actually taken from the French movie "Jeux interdits" (1957) and arranged by Narciso Yepes since the original composition seems anonymous. It is the movie that especially democratized the piece and it has become a must in guitar schools :)
Along the lines of Ode to Joy, I frequently find myself falling into “simple gifts” and “canon in D” when noodling. Simple but irresistible diatonic melodies.
There is an old English tune called "Orlando sleepeth" which I have always found really nice to play. Also, "Kemp's jig" - (both best on classical guitar).
Ok, I HAVE to try this version of Happy Birthday. For lead guitar, I love playing Silent Night, Besame Mucho, Walk Don't Run(The Ventures), Apache and Mother of Mine, among others. Not as beautifully as you, Paul, but I have fun nonetheless. For rhythm guitar, I try to learn whatever song catches my fancy at the time. Throughout the last 2 years, I've learned the rhythm accompaniments of about 30-40 songs of a single artist group I like, from the tabs of a channel. They are mostly easy and simple, but have been a ton of fun to play, and single-handedly re-ignited my love for playing the guitar
That Spanish romance is 1st year guitar school. Like one of the first things ever I learned on guitar. And then Nothing else matters came out and took it's place.
Sometimes I think this is what guitar playing is all about. I mean a deep dive into improvisation is great but for average couch players like me this is very useful.
Symphony No. 5 Beethoven, 40th Symphony Mozart, Moonlight Sonata Beethoven, Mission Impossible Lala Shefren, Survivors Eye of the Tiger, Take Five David Brubeck, The Wall Pink Floyd, Margerita Elvis Presley, Smells Like Teen Spirit Nirvana and most of the songs by Billy Joel.
As someone who grew up with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games I basically learnt to play guitar by trying to play the themes from that game. They're simple, nostalgic and beautiful. He Was A Good Stalker will always be my go-to campfire song.
This, was very nice. Have heard many different versions of these songs over the years. I like the examples you give for several of them better than what I have. Well done video.
Probably a boring video to make but maybe one of the most inspiring videos in a while. These are the tunes that we often forget make the guitar so fun again. Bravo from 🌻Kansas
Henri Mancini is a phenomenal composer. He wrote a lot of music for cartoons. My favorite work from him is on Great Mouse Detective and the Tom and Jerry movie.
The main theme from "The Secret of Monkey Island". For guitarists - old video games fans this is a "must-play"! There was a time I could spend a few hours looking for and watching the new performances on TH-cam. And every time I grab the guitar a have to play it at last once :)
Thanks for the suggestions. I’m definitely gonna have to go pick up Spanish Romance; such a beautiful piece that I never considered learning. Gonna have to keep implementing more chords into my progressions too. Feels like a constant struggle between having complex enough rhythms and properly filling out the melodies with chords. All of these sounded pretty great the way you presented them. 👍
I enjoy playing the Harry Potter theme, as well as Clair De Lune and Gymnopedies 1. Definitely differing levels of difficulty, and I likely am misplacing parts, but they're fun to play. This one is a song, but I think it is the most fun song to learn on guitar, Blackbird.
The Doobie Brothers "Toulouse Street" intro and "Clear as the Driven Snow" three different parts of that song. I will let you decide. Pat Simmons is a melody master on an acoustic guitar, much like Mr. Davids.
Dude, I've been working on playing your Happy Birthday arrangement since this came out and it's challenging! Those chord shapes just feel so non standard to me but I am getting there! I am on level 4 of your Next Level Playing course so I am very pleased that I am recognising the triads on the top strings as I learn Happy Birthday. I plan to learn all the pieces in this video but it's going to take me some time lol!
By chance, last week a random clip of Pawn Stars came…..some guy selling his Stratocaster……it’s Vic Flick. If you haven’t seen it, give it a view it’s a really nice segment. RIP Mr. Flick…….and nicely done Mr. Davids, as always. Cheers from 🇨🇦
That Mario theme was FIRE 🔥
Paul Davids doing his own thing and dropping beautiful, delicate videos every few weeks is such a delight
It is always surprising that after all these years I am following you, I still get this urge to pick up my guitar after watching your videos !! Truly inspiring. thanks Paul
I work in church production and have to say-your lighting, cameras, audio, etc are beautiful

Wow! This list is very Polished!
What acoustic guitar are you using in the video?
When I was playing in a rock band in high school, inevitably something would go wrong at a gig and there'd be a short break while someone was fixing something. That's when I'd pull out the mario theme and give the audience a laugh
Shh! Quiet! You'll get sued!
that is amazing haha
I like the Jeopardy theme lol
All high school bands did it. It was super cliche
I love how the James Bond theme was at number 007 in your list!
Fun fact:

I always thought Mozart wrote it.
What a wonderfull world is the same chord progression as twinkle twinkle little star
@@tmurphy1000 Mozart composed variations on the theme

1:04 that’s the Vsauce chord
Jaaaaa
LOL,
IT IS!!!!🎉❤😂😊😮

Better Call Saul is great!!

Same here, and still one of my go to warm tunes nearly 40 years later!
Apache, Ghost riders in the sky and The Wildwood Flower. My Top 3 favourites.
haha! Capo 2 goes to make emin7, Beethoven's famous Wonder...LOL! So great Paul!!
I got interested in guitar in 2000 playing FF9. I heard "Rose Of May" and asked my brother to play it, and he couldnt do it. Now I can play it, only with tabs on screen, but it makes me happy

Ode to Joy is such a good piece. That little finger picking version was sweet, Paul clearly thought so while playing it.
Thanks Paul. Your left hand, right hand, your mind, coordination and blending is magical...
Pink Panther riff is so killer !
Gaaah! The Ode to Joy melody has an anticipation of one beat on the return to the first theme, and everyone drops it! Please, please, add that little note; it breaks the "squarishness" of the line and adds momentum.
I’m pretty sure the Berlin Philharmonic gets it right along with every other orchestra.😬

THE ENTERTAINER?!
Ranges from ridiculously difficult to borderline impossible
@@billysuter That's not exactly true! I am trying to play it for nearly 50 years already and I nearly made it! 🤣
It's 00.49 am, sitting on the toilet with Sprühschiss and watching you playing songs i already played. But it's always satisfying to wazch you.
9:29 I love your butterscotch telecaster lol

I'll always be impressed by your repertoire, man... You've mastered so many songs and arrangements, it's impressive! Well done
Amazing Grace might be one of my favorites! So iconic and joyful
There is an old English tune called "Orlando sleepeth" which I have always found really nice to play. Also, "Kemp's jig" - (both best on classical guitar).
Another excellent instructional video. Very informative and entertaining.
There are numerous songs from Final Fantasy 7 that I love making new arrangements for. Especially the new versions of them from the remake and sequel.
"That's what she said" really got me LOL
Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) Such a good beginner level tune to learn, mixing the chords and the melody riff
Amazing tone on Pink Panther with the strat!!!!
Made me burst out in laughter at 2:04, thank you!

Wow that 10th song (dont want to spoil it) was amazing.
One day I wanna be a professional guitarist like you sir! I am 19 now inspired by you😊❤!
The tone and sound for the 007 theme was SPOT ON!!!

For a moment I thought he was going to play wonderwalls...2:01 😂
Hahaha, me too
lol😂
That must’ve been the intent
He had his hands on the position as well, thankfully he didn’t play it.😅

@@brucecall1595 HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY TO YOU TOO!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Great video, as always. Loved that version of the Bond theme.
You know, that Bond theme was better than the original. Legend
It always blows my mind how epically iconic the Super Mario theme is. So cool
Being a huge James Bond fan, why have I never thought to learn the theme...will DEFO be trying that with the looper now...thanks Paul!

1:06 how dare you? How could one not recognize this iconic sound 😍
Canon in D for guitar is just beautiful. Well worth learning.
House of the Rising Sun was my first (and only) guitar tune. Doable for a rank beginner like myself, but also very "harmonic"?
More bass line motion on Jingle Bells! As a cello player I've experienced how much tension can be added with a walking line throughout.
Oh wow! I have learned 8 out of these 10 as a kid, like just for fun without anyone teaching me! This video made me feel good! Thanks!
I love playing the "Al Capone Theme' by Ennio Moricone from the movie The Untouchables.

Hey brother, u should have added “sleepwalk” by Johnny & Santo!! It’s an ever loving song here in America!!
The main melody to Sing, Sing, Sing is pretty simple, but complex and challenging at the same time.
Great vid, cool little licks to learn
my favs to play in guitar are Blackbird and Shape of my heart, handpicking
#3 was the first and only full song I learned when I started piano lessons. I wish I had continyed it.
I haven't been learning anything new on the guitar for a while, but that Mario theme IS CALLING TO ME
I never knew pink Panther would sound so great❤
The Mario Theme was awesome ! Would love to hear your take on "Pure Imagination" !!
Love that The Office theme made it here. TV show themes are fun to play, like Cheers and Friends. Instantly recognizable!
Very good Paul! 0:43 a palheta do homem também cai 😁
Wonderful, your sound it’s so clear!!!
Please could you do some tutorial?
Some of these are pretty gnarly. You have to be really quite good at fingerstyle to know a lot of these.
crazy man.. thank you for all the ideas, cheers
Loved the James Bond theme ❤🔥
Henri Mancini is a phenomenal composer. He wrote a lot of music for cartoons. My favorite work from him is on Great Mouse Detective and the Tom and Jerry movie.

the sweater, the hair, the guitar playing! triple threat!
It's great how capo 2 on an acoustic has become a meme :)
