My brother, niece and I rode our Groms in the Big Bend back country this past weekend. It is wonderful just to be there. We have been visiting Big Bend for more than 30 years and the park rangers are always trying to talk us out of going into the back country. It does not matter if we are on the Groms, big adventure bikes or 4x4 trucks. Sometimes they are pretty aggressive about it. We just go out and have some fun, while staying on the established roads. Everyone, please stay on established roads!!!
Yeah I was surprised about that. I had a lady who was terrible to us. It was a real turn off. We almost left the park because we thought we were at the wrong place. I find that adv riders are the most respectful and they stay on marked trails.
David ! Really? I am happy to hear that. We almost trashed this one because we had damaged footage and no audio. Wow. I’m glad we got this edited and up for everyone. I agree. The drone footage was so beautiful.
The man, the myth, the legend Rob Glass. Great riding partner for you. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I'm relatively new to the ADV world, did some training with Rob and the great folks at Austin Moto Adventures (highly recommended) and looking forward to exploring some of the "unacceptable" roads in Big Bend myself...
Park Ranger says: "Too tough, even for motorcycles". Brock responds: "Hold my cervesa, por favor!" Brock, that outtro was epic, cinematic and geographic. The elevated water tower makes so much sense - storage and water pressure together. Big Bend National Park is full of surprises -- I had no idea it was so beautiful, rugged and stark.
Listen, all the park rangers discourage ANYTHING in the park. Camping, biking, pretty much everything. The are pretty much buzz kills and don’t want anyone out there. As a Texan it’s totally an embarrassment.
Wow! What dramatic views! Are you sure you weren't on a trip to Mars!? Unbelievably beautiful landscape. You're a lucky man Brock. Thank you for sharing your incredible adventure. Ride safe, we want more of your great videos.
I think you are right. I rode in Mars! Did I make history ? Haha. I’m happy we were able to salvage this video. I truly am blessed to be able to see such beauty. And Martin, there a lot more adventure coming :)
Big Bend is the states crown jewel in my opinion. I have ridden out there a few times and taken the 4x4 many times more, it's truly an epic experience. Ask those of us who have been a few times or more and they will almost certainly tell you that the state park is better than the national park in terms of raw off-road experience so if you haven't visited the state park you need to return again and do so. Big Bend not only has one of the best night sky viewing opportunities in the entire country but it's the only place in the state that feels like you're out in one of the mountainous western states. Another must do is the Boquillas crossing, you'll find some of the best cabrito tacos you'll ever have lie just across the border in that tiny tourist village. BB is one of our favorite places to visit, it simply calls to you and it's a place that every Texan and American should experience at least once in their lifetime.
Great video! The place is beyond words. No one thinks of Texas having a desert. Longhorns and cowboys, yes, but a desert?Yeah the Rangers want to scare everyone because if you aren’t prepared you can die out there. A 24y.o. guy died hiking on Marufo Vega Trail this Oct. 2024. Even in October the daytime temps can get in the 100’s. The park gets pretty crowded on holidays. The State Park has nice campgrounds along the river on FM 170, the River Road, which is an awesome ride to Presidio. The interior of the State Park, the road is all gravel. In the interior of the park there’s basically no shade at the campsites. So it can be pretty rough out there.
Rob was awesome. And we are still friends today. We filmed this many months back. Almost trashed this because of the damaged footage. But glad we kept it and made it work. I hope to meet other guys out there like Rob. What a great day riding
Great video! I love West Texas, especially the remote spots. The shots were awesome. I find it interesting that you filmed the windmill footage at the rest area south of Monahans, Texas, which is far from Big Bend.
Pretty cool you ran into Rob and got to ride together and be there for each other. Amazing area! Guessing we never see this area because it doesn't have surrounding cities to support the tourists.
Nice video! Big Bend is one of my favorite places! The Park Rangers are over the top w/ their concern, have had similar experiences of them telling us we couldn't navigate Black Gap in a stock 4wd F150 - ridiculous, had no problems. The Gage Hotel in Marathon is about an hour outside of the park, but easily some of the nicest accommodations and best dining in the area. Next time you're out that way, check out Big Bend State Park for even more ADV bike offroad trails and even fewer people. Be sure to take the road to Chorro Vista, and when you get there walk over the ridge to the east (your left), the view is unbelievable!
@@MotoMission. very well. He was with Rawhyde for a long time, thats where we met, and with the new guys in Austin Motors (all ex Rawhyde guys). Rob is super!
Im just getting started riding adv and i will be taking my bike to Big Bend in may next year. Glad i finally found some footage of what to expect. Thanks! That area may be a candidate for a Texas BDR.
Great vid. Loved the background music. Glad you did not listen to ranger, if you had....would not have been able to help the couple in need. Ranger has no clue who has your back either.
Haha. Yes sir. I like to ignore the “experts” It was challenging in some sections but those bikes are amazing what they can do. I didn’t make it clear but that couple had 2 flats. And they were miles from anything.
Great video defiantly reminds me of Utah. Years ago when i lived in Texas i always wanted to go to big bend but never got the chance so thanks for sharing your awesome experience with us! Also thanks for putting the scripture Mathew 5:8 on the end i honestly really needed to hear that. Good luck on your adventures brother!
Wife and I were the first of March, our first time riding there (two-up pavement only.) 170 from Presidio was an amazing ride. We didn’t get to spend much time in the park, so are planning to stay longer, next year. I’m always fascinated by geology, and this whole area is intriguing, from this standpoint.
Awesome, as a SETx native i always live seeing how much texas has to offer. Im really eager to get into adventure riding! Maybe one day ill make that trip!
Just a warning. Big Bend STATE PARK is far more gnarly than the National Park. Its Ranger Station is about 2-3 hours from the park entrance and the camp sites can be a few hours from the Ranger Station once you check in. Many of the roads going to the camp sites are not passable without 4x4 and a lift. When you are planning a trip be sure you are looking at the right one.
We just stayed in the rv park just outside the entrance. Nothing special. But I know you will have a great time riding there. I would go back in a heartbeat. What are you riding ?
@BrockGill Thanks! I love it! I'm able to cover 200 mile loops easily and comfortably. I'm currently laid up with a broken fibula so I won't be able to ride for a while. Was so stoked to see this series pop up in my feed as I'm using this down time to try and find places to go in the fall once it cools off a bit. I really enjoy the videos and look forward to what's ahead!!
Did you go over to Lajitas and Meet Clay the Mayor? The beer drinking Donkey . It only gets better when you leave out the westside of Big Bend and ride the border.
I didn’t. There was a lot more I wanted to see. But I actually got sick and had high fever so we cut it short. If you watch you may notice me starting to cough. I have to go back
Riding here is a blast and you don't even need to haul ass. Too bad we have others who TOTALLY disrespect others PRIVATE property and just think they can ride anywhere they want, destrouyin and scarring the desert hills all around Study Butte. As someone who lives here l can tell you many are getting REAL tired of that s#!t. Come out, enjoy the ride, but be respectful of OUR HOME and this desert. There are a couple of places l know of where riders reach a spot and then do donuts all around, riding through and destroying 11,000 year old habitat sites. Pitiful people. If this was your yard or property would you want me doing that? Probably not.
Yeah. Hate to hear that. I sure loved that place. Sorry they are shutting it down. I find that motorcycle people are the most respectful of the outdoors and try to preserve it.
