Never played a god war game ever . Never was into these style of games . Watched someone stream it , gave it a shot and after the 1st 20 mins I was hooked

Burning through this game is a mistake. Take your time. There is a lot of great stuff in there.
I almost only did the main story (I was very thorough, though) on the 2nd easiest difficulty and it still took me 35 hours. The game is very difficult even on that setting but it's so damn satisfying.
MrStensnask This game is basically a Souls game so I feel you on the difficulty. I think that’s another reason to go slow and do the side stuff - you get more powerful.
I agree. Now I'm left with Muspelheim and Niflheim and even though they're great I can't really use the things they give me for anything. After you complete the main story, do the favours and labours the realms become scarcely populated, sadly.
MrStensnask I’ve been playing on second hardest difficulty going through story to unlock areas then exploring side areas and fights before progressing further into the story. I have a habit getting side tracked with optional stuff 9 out of 10 times lol. Heavily reminds me of dark souls and I absolutely am in love with it.

Another fun tip.
Once you unlock the “fast travel” you can activate it to heal to full health. Then just press O without choosing the location to stay where you are

See THIS is a useful tip that the game doesnt tell you. Pretty sure the tutorial told me I could regen health through rage the minute I was able to use it.

I just did and man was he holding back. Unstuck in the underworld fighting the giant soul keeper. He shifts too fast. How do I kill him.
@@murderddoll dodge and block a lot, as soon as he shifts wait for about .5 seconds and DODGE... OR BLOCK ( I think it's blockable). Also, with ogres you should always spam all your runic attacks, and use Atraeus's light arrows until he is stunned, and then spam r2
The blades
Another tip, keep upgrading Atreus' arrows! He helps so much throughout the gameplay and makes fights/challenges more manageable with swarm of enemies. You don't know how many times he saved Kratos life🙌🏾

Quick tip: hard and annoying enemies like Revenants, Ice Reavers, Tatzelwurms and the werewolf-things (can't remember their name) are fairly easy to take out by using only your fists and Atreus' blue arrows. It stuns the hell outta them and gets you quickly to the red, R3-execution move. In any case, you should always use Atreus' attacks ALL THE TIME during fights. Makes things so much easier.

Personally think the lightning ones are better
They're better for damage but the blue arrows are made to stun and that's what brings the red stun bar on an enemy up the quickest. When you're doing challenges in Muspelheim you'll see how effective the blue arrows are :)

The fast travel portal restores your health when you activate it. Don’t even have to travel through just activate it and you’ll get all your health back so that’s pretty useful
That almost sounds like a glitch
I don't think I've ever once even tried taking out Nightmares with my axe. For some reason it just always seemed so obvious that Atreus was ideal for that task. So it came as a surprise to me to hear how much people hate Nightmares like they're one of the hardest enemies in the game, when they've never posed hardly any problem for me whatsoever.
The axe still feels most efficient to me as it does more damage and I save Artreus' arrows for something that actually poses a threat, weird that anyone had trouble with those things

It’s only useful in 1 on 1 battles
superkriIIin Yeah i ended up using it a little bit with the Valkyries but even in one on one battles i feel it can slow your evade speeds

Tips i have
Ogres- It may be instinctual to either take them down with the axe or focus on everything else first while avoiding them but no, have atreus fire arrrows while you punch him to make him a temporary mount to easily clear the room of other enemies.
When you're fighting Valkeries, they'll have an unblockable move that they do in the air. You can have Atreus shoot her to interrupt the attack.
Update: I've been told that on the hardest difficulty, you'll need to use your axe.

This is my first God of War ever, and having played only a few hours, I know this is gonna be an experience that I'll never forget. I've already nicknamed the boy and my fight with the stranger was just amazing, I didn't want it to stop, I could go all day with that dude.
Never get tired of this game even after 100 hours and maxed out! :D
Yeah, I've definitely cheezed my fair share of nether realm fights by blasting the enemies off a ledge. This was the first game I've ever 100% completed, and I can't wait to go back for NG+!

After you kill the queen and get the axe pommel upgrade you can throw the axe in a straight line across the map. Also when you recall the axe with it equipped it will return on a path that hits every enemy in it's wake. It does it normally but with that legendary pommel it does it so much better and does much more dmg too

I just played it for ps5 first time and it's hard to keep my jaw from dropping. It's insanely good.
This game takes it to the next level. There is really nothing else out there that has this addictive and fun gameplay. Maybe souls games, but I want to see more games like this. This game I'd love to see DLC. And I'd gladly pay for it.
Revenants are extremely vulnerable to electric arrows. While stunned use a combo or cleave then to do max damage.
My favorite thing to do is using nightmares as grenades using the blades of chaos to grapple them

*SPOILERS*
Theres a grip that drops from the valkyrie queen that can nullify #2 on this list, it not only makes the R1 throw go in a completely straight line (never falls due to gravity), but it makes the recall actually SEEK OUT enemies to hit on the return trip. Its extremely cool and is my favorite pommel by far.

Alot of hidden chests forces you to do stuff with the axe you wouldn't normally do. Like the arc trick. Or throwing it over a wall and recalling it to hit a specific point

There was one chest in the dark elf realm with there was a hole the wall and vines on the door and you had to throw you axe in the room through the hole and run to the front door and recall it that it could hit the vines and open the door for you
I had one where I had to throw the axe over a high wall and recall it midair to break them
That one is the trickiest. took me a while to figure it out
You get an enchantment from killing the Valkyries that makes the R1 throw basically an unstoppable bullet

In regards to the cliff kicking loot tip - the blacksmiths have a section called lost items or something like that. You get to reclaim any items that you couldn't loot at no cost.
The Best deep perfect story, excelent gameplay, perfect art and animations...hope for next part. Play at least 3 times...God of War

To travel between the realm between realms faster, use Atreus’ hold ability once you are inside and the door will appear in a second or so

"Kicking Enemies off cliffs" Simply put away your frost axe and yell at the top of your lungs THIS. IS. SPARTA! Also since Kratos is the Ghost of Sparta :D lol
I love how the game is very well optimized i played this with original PS4 and it runs smooth and it still looks good and there is rarely a pretty big frame drop
There's an axe pomel you get when you kill Sigrun. That makes your R1 axe throw extremely powerful (when you throw axe goes in a straight line infinitely)and when you recall the axe it hits the enemies nearby.
the game does tell you that spartan rage gives you health when you hit enemies
My favorite Spartan Rage combo, few hits with R1, R2 for the slam then quickly press L2 for a quick rock throw. Used it to finished off the Valkyries :)

play the story up until the second meeting with the world serpent then go exploring around the lake of nine, i find this to be the best strategy to avoid backtracking and keeping everything fresh.

I just want to sat that Fuz Ro D'ohing Lydia off of the Throat of the World brought back so much nostalgia and fond memories. It was glorious.
Kratos in the thumbnail kinda looks like Christian Bale in American Psycho.
Knew most of these, some aditional tips:
-Use the eletric arrows when fighting against mutiple enemies or if there is enemies that throws projectiles
-Use the "light"(Blue) arrows when fighting against Trolls, Ancients and those Werewolfes like creatures, it will give you the stun attack and take them out easily
-Use Atreus special attack, with eletric arrows and runes that are area attacks, it will give you a huge advantage against many enemies
-Use the heavy attack on the Travelers once their armor is gone
-Valkyries has the same combat style but with gimmicks for each one, but what you have to do: Throw the axe on them when they hoove; if she slide to your right you dodge, if she slide to your left you block; if she use ter wings as a shield, use the execution heavy attack; if she says "Valhalla" wait a second and dodge, then attack her ; don't deflect their projectiles, some of them may jump on you while in the "throw back" animation; don't back step, it is easy to get hit
-Use the execution or stun execution "invencibility frames" when overwhelmed, it gives you time to think or to use Atreus special attack or eletric arrows
-When fighting against Travelers with shields on their backs, keep Atreus on their front and so he can attack them
-Boulder throw is the best attack of the spartan rage, but drains the rage bar quickly
-Punches alongside with Blue arrows are pretty effective against Trolls and others creatures, but Trolls in particular
If the Valkyrie is blocking, use the guard break. Executioner's cleave takes too long to charge up and when she drops her guard, it does a load of damage.
My only criticism for this is in Rota's case; whether she breaks right or left sometimes makes no difference, because if she retreats back right after moving in either direction, you'll have to block or her spin attack will one-shot you.
You'll be able to tell whether you should dodge or block by whether the red flash appears or not as she's coming for you, and it takes a split second reaction to respond accordingly
Passed this game in 3 days since the purchase... amazing game!!!

Is it me or attacking with the shoulder triggers just doesnt feel natural and GOW. I map it to square and triangle.

Getting items from enemies that fell from the cliff is a mechanic from Dark Souls. There is also a lot of mechanics inspired in the Souls series.
Playing this game in 2024 and the facial animations of the Boy are incredible. This is a special game. I dare say the quality is up there with the Zelda games.

The rage talisman is the most op item in the game, and it's only a "common" item. The fact that you can regain health while in spartin rage and do massive damage at the same time causes this talisman to almost break the game. Just avoid damage long enough for it to cool down, activate it, kill and regain health, wash, rinse, repeat. A lot of people are tempted to use some of the more rare and fancier talismans, but I pretty much stuck with this little op nugget and it got me through give me god of war without much trouble at all.
If you *REALLY* want to feel op, master the Amulet of Kvasir. It has no cooldown so if you've mastered dodging, you'll quickly find yourself playing a Matrix simulator.
I thought I was good at the game not dying and all, then I realized I was playing on the easiest difficulty
Balanced Experience is the besf setting to play through.
A small tip that helped me step up my skill: When you find yourself surrounded by enemies and one is low health but you can' really close the gap, just spam throw axe in his face while mashing square. Probably seems like a no brainer to most of us, but for the beginners this could help
Currently playing GoW on PC, tip #3 reminded me you can lock onto targets. I've only got level 5 of my Blades of Chaos skills to still upgrade and I had forgotten I could target enemies. Only used it once.

This game is definitely worth getting the platinum for, it's amazing
Still, as much as I love this new reboot - nothing compares to that feeling of when popping in thee original God of War for the PS2 from 2005 and watching that opening scene as Kratos casts himself from the highest peak in all of Greece, "The God's of Olympus have abandoned me . . . Now there is no hope."
Narrator/Gia - "And Kratos cast himself from the highest mountain in all of Greece. After 10 years of suffering, 10 years of endless nightmares, it would finally come to and end. DEATH would be his escape from madness. . ."
Absolutely, brilliant!!! Made my hairs stand on end, but in a beautiful, yet sad way. Kratos is my favorite video game character and so, it's endearingly strange to see him in a new kind of way. But he feels so much older and wiser in this new reboot than from his original saga.
