    Today, I completely mechanically overhaul my Mercedes-Benz S600, that I had basically abandoned for over a year. And spoiler alert, it's way more expensive than I thought.

    One thing I have definitely found out over the few decades of wrenching on vehicles is battery voltage and amperage and grounds mean a whole lot more than people think. Especially in older european vehicles. And now that again as well as domestic vehicles have caught up technology wise they need the same attention to detail as well. Great to see you giving this car the love it deserves to go to a new home. Thanks for another great video and as always stay safe and always remember to wear clean underwear cause you never know what's going to happen. Lol

    I taught Electronic Control system for the recreational marine market. When talking to techs about troubleshooting, I used to tell them, "if it is doing something weird, it is almost always a ground problem". I stand by that. Not always, but almost always. Besides, it is easy to tell if you have a sensor power or sensor signal problem. The ground is another matter. Edit: Anyhow, you did a nice job explaining what you were doing. It was very clear. Take care.

    Tavarish since you have so many cars from Mercedes why don't you invest in an oil vacuum device?
    Mercedes supports the suction method for all of its cars (and many other makes do too). My Mercedes I've had it for 15 years and have never gotten under the car to change the oil. Just set the pump on a compressed air source and you come back and all the oil is in the canister. You then do the filter and O-rings. I just put the replacement oil back in the hole for the filter.. Bigger hole and easier to use.
    Just a thought.

    Awesome video. I bought an S600 last month and it had some similar issues. Fortunately the coilpacks had already been done recently.
    I did have some vibrations which were completely eliminated after changing the engine mounts. On my car especially the rear one (transmission end) was totally sagged.
    My distronic and park assist did not work also, in my case the central unit somehow lost its firmware.
    Lastly i had one ABC strut (right rear) with a failed spring. Swapping was bot hard, disconnecting the “quick connect” hydraulic line was.
    It is amazing how well the car rides for a 15 year old machine, totally love it.
    Cheers

    My favorite car uses a type of standard 1980s serial bus. It's a pain, because if something fails, everything else on the bus fails and it goes into limp mode. Like... If the check engine light goes out, it causes a fault with the controller, and hangs up the entire bus

      They are probably the cars with the least break downs compared to any other car with same performance. But you need to service them correctly.. I think many people in the US have problems understanding that.

    • @fishadthethird
      @fishadthethird 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to add the mileage driven into your equation too.. Of course a car is more likely to break down, if you drive it a lot compared to a trailer queen. With that said Mercedes are built to last.

    could say alot about a lot of things you talked about in this video. However it is late as I do this and it doesn't make a difference anyway. Just suffice it to say good job on getting the car corrected. I would tell Tyler EVERYTHING you found wrong on that car just because if he didn't know then he was also taken for a ride. You did the same thing with the Astonmartin and that one was as informative. So in closing, good job doing the back yard fix up on two machines that usally don't lend themselves to backyard fix ups. Do more of this type of thing. It's not stupid!
