Ok Ok, slightly clickbaity thumbnail! But I think we can all agree that we all see loads of Stalwarts in battles, they aren't the best unit in the game but they are a real pain to deal with, hopefully that's what I can cover today :-)
I started playing this game about a month ago. I get matched in high battles, even when I have low armour(rare) and weapon(Longsword and shield),epic, and I always lose against heroes. I have uncommon and rare units. I don't understand how this game truly works, like the small things like when u press f4, how to get up in the battle pass with glory, how to get units, what territory battles are and how to get attire etc. Please help it's hard I accidently donated all my inv to this guy in turul valos, (lobby)help plsss
@@shadowfightyt7602 As a Longsword and shield main, I can tell you to get the javelin Sargent first to deal with higher tier units and be a lasting force early on. You should also look around for youtube guides on the ins and outs of the game.
@@shadowfightyt7602 It's a seasonal unit, so you press F5 -> unit challenges -> change challenge season on the top left to Season 5. Then you'll need to finish the season challenges as displayed
When I am braced, and I get charged heavily, I use the charge to get them back into formation (Since it makes almost like a semicircle formation), and then 1 or 2 seconds into my charge I brace em straight away. So I use charge to basically regroup and reform for a new brace..works like a fricking charm!
I'm actually finding Tserges being quiet useful against Stalwarts with their shield strike through, plus being blunt damage they do a lot of damage to them since they have low blunt armour.
Yeah I've been playing the tesregs a little recently as well they are sort of effective against stalwarts I think the problem is they feel quite squishy when compared to something like paladins which also have a good charge
One small mistake you did which got you killed by the javelin/cannon combo was not using advance. If you did, you'll get a damage reduction buff and gather the troops together for the push.
stalwarts may not be the best unit, but stalwarts + maul is definitely the best combo, literal 1 man army. as a maul main i take that unit in all my sieges and specially in a chokepoint i'm unstoppable, smacking the enemies from behind the braced shields without taking dmg with full strenght maul... it's nasty but fun XD
Same here. But now that everyone knows, more than 2 heroes come in with their units when I am the only hero (maul) & stalwarts. One of them tries to get behind stalwarts and create chaos and take out the whole unit.
So new player and about to unlock stalwarts. But I have a question. When I upgrade to them do I keep my Spear sergeants doctrines? Or should I take the ones I can afford to take off?

Yes they are, unironically. Before that season started i called them the pike militia upgrade and they were that but also so much more. The big problem is that nothing below their tier can really damage, let alone kill them. Barely any purple units can hurt them and no blue,green,white units can do anything. Hell most gold era units stand no chance. Only a few classes can actually kill them and while other classes can disrupt their formation once they are braced they have no knockdown animation so they just slide whilst still bracing so there can be no followup. I've thrown the double shot from the jav sergeants at a braced unit and didn't even get damage numbers so i guess their block is jav proof. And most maps are so centered around small alleys, gates, or stairs that flanking them becomes a 5 minute long risky endeavour with a high probability of seeing another unit of stalwarts on the flank. So yeah unless they reveal the block and block break values (and many other values like % based veterancies) the community can tell mycom to fix the game but we can't give accurate data other than glitches like them phasing through units (which i think they fixed?) or not falling when braced (and thus dropping the brace status from the affected models) there is little we can do other than complain.
Yeah they are certainly a very tough unit to deal with, I agree they do play a bit like pike militia but are so much more powerful! I have been pushing for increased statistics so hopefully this is something we may one day see implemented into the game!
I have to disagree with you on the monastic knights. I have yet to stop a monastic charge with stalwarts. They tear through my brace every time. Even the block formation where the knights charge through several layers.
@Evo Loz Gaming with this Stelwart unit and paladin with their high cost what units do bring with them as well ? Since with the leadership limit you are forced to use lower tier units as well with the better ones or do you just not use these expensive units ? Also can you give me an example of the 5/4 units you use. Also just another question what yours characters build stat wise ?
My stalwarts suck cuz I awalys use advance and they die very fast. Watched this vid and my stalwarts get 2.66 kd and 1 hero kill, and I get mvp. Thank you so much. Please make more unit guide! its sooooo helpful!
I think the stalwarts are the best for attacking. Their brace move brace move tactic is very op and destroys anything in their way.I think a longer cooldown for the brace will make stalwarts more balanced. Because a not moving stalwart is a dead stalwart which can be easily flanked
Now im about to unlock these guys but I'm not sure if i should upgrade spear seargents. I always play seargents aggressively using the guard commander formation that i find insane. From what i read Stalwarts are stronger but I wonder if its worth to lose the "2" formation that I always use. What do you think? Also I don't have the medals and the xp to buy new stalwarts and upgrade them(so that i have both units in a good level)
It's always a hard decision, ultimately stalwarts are the better unit and played properly will easily beat spear sgts. The problem comes from the fact that stalwarts are less beginner friendly and can be harder to play well due to lack of cover commander + they actualy have quite a different playstyle to sgts. I'd say it's a question of when to upgrade the sgts not if and thats something you've gotta decide for yourself

I actually find the advance ability to be quite useful when engaging ranged or when your unit is awkwardly positioned with a bunch of your models not actually engaged and doing damage. Or just pushing into a unit in general since it limits the weird thing where some of your guys try to run way into their formation white the guys behind are still a ways away. It sort of regroups them up and moves the line forward.
The stalwart are actually Good With there charge , in a in a meatball with Mans Units on a choke Point and no one have the Balls Go Push, Ill Push with the warts and they do the Job to breach i lose many or all but mostly we get the Objektiv
Definitely a good unit! Someone said that the Armiger lancers can go through them! I don't know if it's the case as I tried and didn't work as good. Maybe I had wrong Veterancy. Do you know?
Yeah a very solid unit and certainly a pain to deal with! I think generally the armiger lancers shouldn't be going through although they do sometimes seem to glitch through the unit
@@temujinkhagan5308 from what I heard, they get some increased damage to horses. Apparently some rear protection and minor speed buffs. However, you never what to retreat shields with their backs facing forwards, heroes will descend on them quickly. If you are using spear seargents, CC will have spearmen guarding the rear anyways. If your going against horses, then you might as well keep the shield on since it gives them block. Spearmen are rarely ever going to be used in a V attack mode. They are always going to be in CC or a line formation, in which the shield comes into play all the time.
In Territory war its the Hussars, in large numbers they demolish everything, As a short sword player I personally play the best with Shield Seargants in Cover Commander und just cutting down everything in my path, or imperial pikes, also very aggressively
You can counter Stalwarts through the front by X-ing your Stalwarts forward, then advancing them into the other Stalwarts brace, then bracing as soon as your unit has clumped up against the enemy Stalwarts first row of units.
If you get a good run up they seem to get through but seems to depend, if any hero interuption then they get stopped or at least found mind took a chunk of damage in the process
Can you please tell me if by upgrading an unit you can no longer unlock the same base unit and use it? I mean I love the "Cover command" of the Spear Sergeants, and now I am worried about upgrading them to Stalwarts. Can I re-recruit the Sergeants again and have two different units, or I lose them for ever? Oh, and great video as always!
I dont think the stalwarts are the best but they are in the top 5 for me. (can you max out your reapers first go for the self heal in the bottom and then go middle and flail or fail XD if youre ready can you pls set a video) and very Nice video!

@@samisha5834 everyone has the same(ish) leadership, you still need cheaper units to fill out your team, which is why he said PM. Also you have to think about bronze - if you bring multiple purple units, or start bringing orange units, you end up losing more bronze in kit damage than you earn, meaning you end up 'bronzing out' and are stuck with bringing things like demense pikemen until you managed to bronze up again.... Bringing one purple and several lower tier units you normally get a bronze surplus or at least break even.
Hey, longsword main here. I tried the 50% Toughness/50% Armour build, and found it to be sub-optimal. I cannot recommend 100% Toughness enough, go all-in for maximum hit points! When you use your longsword heal it instantly replenishes a set percentage of your hit points. The more hit points you have, the larger that instant heal will be. This is a particularly effective build if you are dilligent with crafting/reconditioning your Armour. Focus on accepting Armour crafts that give you a good amount of extra hit points. By the time you have a full legendary (orange) set of Guardsman Armour, with each piece giving you hundreds and hundreds of extra hit points, it starts to get a bit silly... Glaive and Spear heroes can hammer you with their ults all day long and it just tickles. Maul heroes can kidnap you, run you through their pike units, ditch you onto the ground, and you can just pick yourself up and carry on. You can hold cap-points solo for an age. It takes 3 or 4 enemy heroes to put you down, which is excellent because if they are focussing on you they aren't focussing on your team mates. Duels? Literally unbeateble, though you might find the duel times-out to a draw before you can put your opponent down. Honestly, I cannot recommend this spec enough. The downside? Don't expect to be doing any kind of serious damage with your hero, raw numbers wise. But hey, that's what you have your units for! Give it a try, it's a lot of fun!
Ranged classes tend to get overshadowed by melee classes, especially maul, poleaxe, and glave. From what Ive, seen the only thing you can do is be an ass and attack enemy ranged. Long bow is definitely a high skill, and low action class.
It might have a high skill cap but it can still be a very effective class. It got nerfed at the start of season 4 but has had a few improvements since then to make it playable again
Hey Mate I changed to Full Strength Glaive and is Awesome!!! I wish they would allow you to Press F1, F2, F3 for the Units Formation's. But on Click they Change Formation where they are..... Not In Front of You. Especially with Stalwarts this would be really Handy. As if someone or units where about to attack from Rear you could change from the Turtle to Schiltron and then Brace, providing some protection. Depending on the Situation.....
I agree that stallwarts are better played agressively, if ur not agressive with them ur just letting them group up and overwhelm u and bring the correct units get their ults off cooldown, but if u pressure someone when they arent ready to fight stallwarts its pretty much always a winning fight
also im not to sure about this but i versed a bottomline stallwart they insta wiped about 2 units of palidins and imperial pike advance instantly and killed all 3 of me and my friends in less than half a second
I usually agree with you, but this time i cannot just say that they are strong, they are OP. You said that u don't always have to attack them, and that's true, unless i have paladins, i just run when i see a unit of stalwards (i also run if they have something with AOE CC and i have paladins), but when i'm a defender, trying to use ANY defensive unit but stalwards, they can just walk up to my unit and kill it in one second, even faster than reapers, cause they instantly brace and deal tons of dmg. You said that they aren't that good cause you can just flank them... well ofc, no unit is good when hit from behind, but the thing is that advancing gives them a semi circle formation that will delete anything in front of them. But not only that, there are so many stalwards that many times u have a unit of stalwards on each side so... you'd have to kill stalwards in order to flank stalwards, and that's why games turn into push with talwards and kill everything unit it become a stalwards vs stalwards duel, cause they are the best unit for defending and attacking, the only thing that can kill them is a double cav charge (monastics will struggle and hussars don't have anough dmg to kill them) or siphonarioi, but they have like no defence so they die pretty quick so you'd have to sacrifice 330 points to get rid of a 260 points unit... or falconetti... but that unit is also disgusting like the stalwards, u can just defend it and it will solo push anything unless u get shot by other falcos. And that's what makes them OP, in a game where there is short of a rock scissor paper gameplay, there is a unit that can do anything you want, and can push against anything unless they are defended by other units of stalwards, and saying "just flank them" is not a valid argument cause they can turn and brace instantly, cause they are the fastest unit at repositioning, u literally have to surround them and that's not balanced, cause even when u surround them, either u hit them with hard CC, they will absolutelly destroy many of the units trying to attack them. I say this cause i've played them, i have them max lvl and everytime i use them, i only have to avoid other stalwards and u get a shit ton of kills, they only die when u feel like god with them(and not every time) now i don't even play them cause of how stupidly broken they are, but i find that if try to defend a point with max lvl halb sangeants or forte, they just walk up to me, same thing with imperial spearmen in front, and if they are defending and i use my imp pikes to slow walk, they just ignore me xD same thing with tsergs, a unit that's made for killing shielded units just dies against them...
I don't disagree they are very powerful/ OP at times and can certainly wreck other units. Kind of the point of the video was less about saying how good stalwarts were but more trying to talk a little bit about how to counter them because they are a unit we see so regularly. I certainly wouldn't have any complaints if they got nerfed soon :)
Mauls literally delete stalwarts like they dont even exist. Hell, maul deletes everything. Infantry feel near pointless between Hussars and Mauls. Imperial Pike Guards are better than Stalwarts.
Try to push a point held by them without a unit that can break their block and it’s just frustrating for any player who doesn’t have their own. I spent money because I wanted them to help make right this uneven world
I mean theyre great but they should be, those sub trees u just blithely mentioned are NOT cheap, heores just run behind you and whittle them ..whew..formation wise I do their special charge thingy then hit THIRD formation real fast..pulls them to me then can reset minimal losses. and Im sorry but that shortsword on that wall fight..oh YES he can get through..maybe his Thunderstruck was on cooldown or he was wanna be dps shorty? I blow them up in air and delete allll those stals w any good charge unit my fav being pallies
I dont think so. Its just a matter of using them smart. I usually make 200 kills with Kriegs(full purple doutrine). Then Palace guards + fire archers or pavises + green javellins.
Stalwarts are good but not the best for me. Imperial pike guards are still my favorite. The advance is so good, destroys both cav and infantry. But then again a unit is only good depending on the situation
Yep I would actually agree, not the best but a very solid unit (Love my paladins more!) but certainly see loads of stalwarts every battle so good to try and learn how they work. Agree Imp pike are beasts :)
in the 6.40 incident you can clearly see that not stalwarts are op ... but the dumbeness of the enemy is. First of ... we got a shortsword and a shield with paladins on one side and some basic pikes from the tower. those two idiots instead of . Shorswort break the line and a charge from the paladins which would devastat evo in that situation... no they just asumme with their low dps hitting on their shields would make anything while beeing stabbed the whole time... even one jump to left to backstab those units would win them the situation. This is clearly the mistakes of thsi enemys. i mean as the fucking tankiest classes in game they managed to get that low on maybe 3 stalwarts up that staircase???? even ai is smarter
next incidence at the door. the hammer could litterly spin himself throught that unit so the paladins could swoop up the rest ... 3 Heros + Armiger + Paladins + Condi. Again the enemys just sucked throught oblivion and back. is this typical na Queue?
It is very unbalanced, you faced 1 unit and 4 heroes and not even half of your soldiers died. It's broken and people abuse them, it makes the game a bit boring
Yeah I agree they are a very strong unit and with so many of them in battle it's why I wanted to talk about their weaknesses in this video so hopefully we can defeat them easier

How do you play Mail? All armour, 50-50 with strength?

They'll get auto unequipped from the unit (sort of) when you upgrade so you can just put them back on afterwards if you want to

What about crossbows can the piece there shields?
Pavise should still apply damage yes but not at a super quick rate + at 11k hitpoint it can take a while to kill
They can, but Stalwarts have close to 1k piercing defense, so it takes a very long time for the crossbows to do any considerable damage.
as the other said, too slow. the stalwarts just advance into your guys and kill them. and you.

Yeah they are a huge attacking unit. Agree about the brace cooldown though would be a good step in the right direction

Actually not really got either unit properly levelled up yet so maybe a little way off but hopefully get around to them eventually :)
Both units are 10/10 trash and not anywhere near meta, good or useful for your team. Taking them with you is a waste of leadership
Will you make an in depth guide on azaps? Love them but have trouble matching the kills I make with more meta units
I was actually thinking of revisiting the Azaps, they are still a really good unit but I do think they are slightly off meta now

What about using artillery like grapeshots to kill them?

Not enough to displace the value of the shield. The stalwarts don’t even have the option to stow shields.

Yeah gameplay is completely different in TW imp pike and cav are super dominant
An imperial pike advance can murder lines of hussars so first moment people abuse it that won’t last for long

You can counter Stalwarts through the front by X-ing your Stalwarts forward, then advancing them into the other Stalwarts brace, then bracing as soon as your unit has clumped up against the enemy Stalwarts first row of units.
I remember monastic pass through them easily, but mine is fully maxed.
If you get a good run up they seem to get through but seems to depend, if any hero interuption then they get stopped or at least found mind took a chunk of damage in the process

how do they handle imperial spear guards advances?
I haven't specifically tested it but would expect the imp spear guard to get wrecked
They are the only unit in the game that can take them head-on without being stunned and still deal damage.
Still have to flank them for a quick kill. I usually wait until they make a wrong move to finally ADVANCE into them from the side.
When braced they easily resist against an imp march without problem 🙂
They can resist an ipg advance easily while braced. They do so much dmg as well as blocking the advance it’s crazy

I dont think the stalwarts are the best but they are in the top 5 for me. (can you max out your reapers first go for the self heal in the bottom and then go middle and flail or fail XD if youre ready can you pls set a video) and very Nice video!
Yep I'd agree a good unit and a very dependable unit but not my number 1 either. Yeah still very much need to do the reapers!

@@samisha5834 everyone has the same(ish) leadership, you still need cheaper units to fill out your team, which is why he said PM. Also you have to think about bronze - if you bring multiple purple units, or start bringing orange units, you end up losing more bronze in kit damage than you earn, meaning you end up 'bronzing out' and are stuck with bringing things like demense pikemen until you managed to bronze up again....
Bringing one purple and several lower tier units you normally get a bronze surplus or at least break even.

The best tank build is 50% armor 50% toughness, the best all-round is 50% armor 50% strength

Hey, longsword main here. I tried the 50% Toughness/50% Armour build, and found it to be sub-optimal. I cannot recommend 100% Toughness enough, go all-in for maximum hit points!
When you use your longsword heal it instantly replenishes a set percentage of your hit points. The more hit points you have, the larger that instant heal will be.
This is a particularly effective build if you are dilligent with crafting/reconditioning your Armour. Focus on accepting Armour crafts that give you a good amount of extra hit points.
By the time you have a full legendary (orange) set of Guardsman Armour, with each piece giving you hundreds and hundreds of extra hit points, it starts to get a bit silly...
Glaive and Spear heroes can hammer you with their ults all day long and it just tickles. Maul heroes can kidnap you, run you through their pike units, ditch you onto the ground, and you can just pick yourself up and carry on. You can hold cap-points solo for an age. It takes 3 or 4 enemy heroes to put you down, which is excellent because if they are focussing on you they aren't focussing on your team mates. Duels? Literally unbeateble, though you might find the duel times-out to a draw before you can put your opponent down. Honestly, I cannot recommend this spec enough.
The downside? Don't expect to be doing any kind of serious damage with your hero, raw numbers wise. But hey, that's what you have your units for!
Give it a try, it's a lot of fun!

Hello, I know this question ain't related with the video but.. I wanted to main longbow, how bad is my decision?
Ranged classes tend to get overshadowed by melee classes, especially maul, poleaxe, and glave. From what Ive, seen the only thing you can do is be an ass and attack enemy ranged. Long bow is definitely a high skill, and low action class.
It might have a high skill cap but it can still be a very effective class. It got nerfed at the start of season 4 but has had a few improvements since then to make it playable again

I wish they would allow you to Press F1, F2, F3 for the Units Formation's. But on Click they Change Formation where they are..... Not In Front of You. Especially with Stalwarts this would be really Handy.
As if someone or units where about to attack from Rear you could change from the Turtle to Schiltron and then Brace, providing some protection. Depending on the Situation.....
I agree massively and I've only been playing a week! Maybe a press and hold system 🤷♂️ press to change in position, hold for infront.

I agree that stallwarts are better played agressively, if ur not agressive with them ur just letting them group up and overwhelm u and bring the correct units get their ults off cooldown, but if u pressure someone when they arent ready to fight stallwarts its pretty much always a winning fight
also im not to sure about this but i versed a bottomline stallwart they insta wiped about 2 units of palidins and imperial pike advance instantly and killed all 3 of me and my friends in less than half a second
also if u find urself in a bad situation just put them into f3 and brace instantly allowing to somewhat mitigate the flank

I usually agree with you, but this time i cannot just say that they are strong, they are OP.
You said that u don't always have to attack them, and that's true, unless i have paladins, i just run when i see a unit of stalwards (i also run if they have something with AOE CC and i have paladins), but when i'm a defender, trying to use ANY defensive unit but stalwards, they can just walk up to my unit and kill it in one second, even faster than reapers, cause they instantly brace and deal tons of dmg.
You said that they aren't that good cause you can just flank them... well ofc, no unit is good when hit from behind, but the thing is that advancing gives them a semi circle formation that will delete anything in front of them. But not only that, there are so many stalwards that many times u have a unit of stalwards on each side so... you'd have to kill stalwards in order to flank stalwards, and that's why games turn into push with talwards and kill everything unit it become a stalwards vs stalwards duel, cause they are the best unit for defending and attacking, the only thing that can kill them is a double cav charge (monastics will struggle and hussars don't have anough dmg to kill them) or siphonarioi, but they have like no defence so they die pretty quick so you'd have to sacrifice 330 points to get rid of a 260 points unit... or falconetti... but that unit is also disgusting like the stalwards, u can just defend it and it will solo push anything unless u get shot by other falcos.
And that's what makes them OP, in a game where there is short of a rock scissor paper gameplay, there is a unit that can do anything you want, and can push against anything unless they are defended by other units of stalwards, and saying "just flank them" is not a valid argument cause they can turn and brace instantly, cause they are the fastest unit at repositioning, u literally have to surround them and that's not balanced, cause even when u surround them, either u hit them with hard CC, they will absolutelly destroy many of the units trying to attack them.
I say this cause i've played them, i have them max lvl and everytime i use them, i only have to avoid other stalwards and u get a shit ton of kills, they only die when u feel like god with them(and not every time) now i don't even play them cause of how stupidly broken they are, but i find that if try to defend a point with max lvl halb sangeants or forte, they just walk up to me, same thing with imperial spearmen in front, and if they are defending and i use my imp pikes to slow walk, they just ignore me xD same thing with tsergs, a unit that's made for killing shielded units just dies against them...
I don't disagree they are very powerful/ OP at times and can certainly wreck other units. Kind of the point of the video was less about saying how good stalwarts were but more trying to talk a little bit about how to counter them because they are a unit we see so regularly. I certainly wouldn't have any complaints if they got nerfed soon :)
Mauls literally delete stalwarts like they dont even exist. Hell, maul deletes everything. Infantry feel near pointless between Hussars and Mauls.
Imperial Pike Guards are better than Stalwarts.
on the flip side mauls are easy as hell to kill

I am using them in every single battle since I got them.
Try to push a point held by them without a unit that can break their block and it’s just frustrating for any player who doesn’t have their own. I spent money because I wanted them to help make right this uneven world

I mean theyre great but they should be, those sub trees u just blithely mentioned are NOT cheap, heores just run behind you and whittle them ..whew..formation wise I do their special charge thingy then hit THIRD formation real fast..pulls them to me then can reset minimal losses. and Im sorry but that shortsword on that wall fight..oh YES he can get through..maybe his Thunderstruck was on cooldown or he was wanna be dps shorty? I blow them up in air and delete allll those stals w any good charge unit my fav being pallies
They are a super good unit on defense, not the best, but still very good.

I usually make 200 kills with Kriegs(full purple doutrine). Then Palace guards + fire archers or pavises + green javellins.

Yep I would actually agree, not the best but a very solid unit (Love my paladins more!) but certainly see loads of stalwarts every battle so good to try and learn how they work. Agree Imp pike are beasts :)

in the 6.40 incident you can clearly see that not stalwarts are op ... but the dumbeness of the enemy is.
First of ... we got a shortsword and a shield with paladins on one side and some basic pikes from the tower.

Shorswort break the line and a charge from the paladins which would devastat evo in that situation... no they just asumme with their low dps hitting on their shields would make anything while beeing stabbed the whole time... even one jump to left to backstab those units would win them the situation. This is clearly the mistakes of thsi enemys. i mean as the fucking tankiest classes in game they managed to get that low on maybe 3 stalwarts up that staircase???? even ai is smarter
next incidence at the door. the hammer could litterly spin himself throught that unit so the paladins could swoop up the rest ... 3 Heros + Armiger + Paladins + Condi.

I prefer paladins more than stalwarts. I think paladins are better than stalwarts.
I also prefer paladins but still see stalwarts everywhere so an important unit to be able to counter :)
It is very unbalanced, you faced 1 unit and 4 heroes and not even half of your soldiers died. It's broken and people abuse them, it makes the game a bit boring
Yeah I agree they are a very strong unit and with so many of them in battle it's why I wanted to talk about their weaknesses in this video so hopefully we can defeat them easier
