    This brings back so many memories for me: been here in 1958 (I was 8 YO), 1968, 1970, 1974, and 1998 (with my wife and daughters). Every trip was exceptional, but 1998 was the most enjoyable! My daughters must have spent 6 hours walking the beach (while my wife spent time snoozing in the car: oh, well)! Most impressive are the different expressions of Mother Nature's handiwork, all in one place! This could almost be three different parks, they are so different. President Roosevelt deserves all the credit for enabling of this park; without hm it would be a clear-cut wasteland (the lumbermen would never pass up an area like this)! Thank you much for this!!!

    Come back in the summer, there's a campground between the glaciers on top of Mt. Olympus, the view is stunning. My first time on Rialto beach was in 1964, now my grandkids are walking on it. Nice video!

    I lived around here for years when I was a kid and it makes me want to visit home again. On top of what's in the video, it's super arid in the area near Sequim, even having unique species of cactus in the area. The area really is ridiculously diverse.

    Being so close and not seeing it to go with the Tree of Life is the world's largest Alaska Sitka Tree at Lake Quinault . From here hike into the Enchanted Forest where you can find 2 species of Hemlock which also are the world's record Hemlocks , the world's biggest Red Cedar tree is no longer here coming down in a storm.
    My 1st hike I was 15 and spent 7 days and 55 miles from Staircase to Lake Quinault going through the Enchanted Valley in 66. The Olympics are my favorite hikes then the Goat Rocks cause I live close and then N. Cascades.

    I found this to be very welcoming and disarming. You guys seem like normal people, with normal "abilities" (I mean that in the nicest way--I am also afraid of heights and remember even in places like the Grand Canyon, I had to get on all fours when the wind picked up). Some travel videos make me feel bad for not being seasoned enough, but your video shows an approachable and realistic way about travel. You got yourself a new subscriber! During stormy weather, one needs to keep their wits about them and watch out for rolling beach logs. A late friend of mine lost one of his two daughters to a wave-swept log out there. The family had brought a developmentally-disabled young friend along for the hike. Apparently, my friend's daughter was the only one who saw the danger approaching. She rushed in at the last moment and shoved her friend clear, but she was crushed by the log herself.
    I believe the National Park Service posted signs alerting visitors to the danger as a result of the tragedy. I can't vouch for that personally, since I haven't been on one of the beaches in decades myself--I'm more a fan of forest and mountains with fewer visitors; and we have many places offering such solitude on the peninsula.
    By the way, Kalaloch is pronounced with a hard "A" on the second syllable.
    Nice to see someone overcome her fear and enjoy an exposed promontory despite that hindrance.

    OMG! those places are beautiful, right out of a Jurassic Park movie! I am getting ready to move into my "rig" (of some sort) and hit the road as a full-timer, hopefully in about 5 to 7 months. Last night I was planning my itinerary, enjoying in anticipation, and was playing with ideas throughout the whole WA State, and this morning: voila! I found your video that blew my mind away and made me realize I do have to consider spending waaaaay more time than what I thought necessary in that area!!! You made me laugh with the high tide run and scaring the seagulls away in the last scene is just worthy of a big screen movie!!! So thank you for all of that, really helpful. Question: are there bears in that area? Is it safe to walk those forests? Do you have bear spray or something like that? Thank you again, Adriana :)

    • @WaypointofView
      @WaypointofView  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow, thank you so much for these kind words.... that really means so much to us!!! We LOVED our time in Washington!! We actually spent 6 weeks there and only just scratched the surface... there is SO much to see so we are already talking about wanting to go back! You should check out some of our other Washington videos... the North Cascades were AMAZING!! The Enchantments has to be the most beautiful place I have ever seen! As far as bears go... there are definitely bears in the North Cascades. We saw a couple of black bears up there. I believe they are in Olympic too. We always erred on the side of caution and carried bear spray with us on our hikes. Good luck with all the planning.. happy to answer any questions! Not sure how far you are in the planning process but Idaho was another favorite of ours! This was not on our initial itinerary but I am SO happy we added it!

      We went in September and I can tell you at least from our experience, there was a lot of wildfire smoke that time of year. We had time on our side and could wait it out a bit for good weather... but out of the 6 weeks we spent there, a lot of it was spent waiting out rain, smoke, etc. It is such a beautiful state though with SO much to offer!! • @WaypointofView
      @WaypointofView  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much for watching! AHH that is so tough because they are so different! We reallllllly loved North Cascades... the mountains were rugged and beautiful and it felt incredibly remote. Are you guys big hikers? It seemed like North Cascades requires a bit of effort/ longer hikes to really see. If you happen to be into backcountry camping, there were some incredible opportunities for that (we were sad we didn't get to with weather, timing, etc). But Olympic is amazing too.. and so diverse and you can do some short/ easy hikes and really get to see a lot. It depends on your interests but I can tell you for me personally, I would pick North Cascades but we really love hiking in the mountains. Eeek hope this helps some... it's a tough one!

    • @aquafiredragonfly
      @aquafiredragonfly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@WaypointofView Thank you it's all very helpful!! I think we're leaning a little more towards Olympic right now just because of the diversity of hikes, and one of our concerns with North Cascades was our inexperience with mountain hiking, but I know it will be beautiful either way!

      Olympic NP has so much to offer... there are mountains, beaches, rainforests, etc. It's pretty spread out though so it depends on what your interests are. If you only have 1 day, you could focus on the Hurricane Ridge area if you love hiking in the mountains... or on the coast if you're more interested in beaches. Or you could pick a beach or 2 and then head inland to the Hoh Rainforest which is beautiful! We covered everything in this video in 2 days but it was a lot of driving and they were very, very long days. Enjoy your trip.
