Last night of Tory rule, hopefully, in my lifetime, I’m 68 and have only had c25 years of Labour governments, during which time we enjoyed the creation of the NHS, the expansion of further education, joining the EU (although I do credit Heath for the groundwork) higher standards of living and public standards generally kept high, on the other hand, under the Tories, especially 79-90 the country raped, manufacturing industries destroyed, mass privatisations of public services, that turned out well didn’t it, and in the last 5 years, the complete debasement and destruction of public faith in politicians…….I’m aiming to be the first at my local polling station as I was in 2016 for the Brexit debacle, this time, I hope, the British public will see the devastation and damage the Tories have wreaked on this great country, and boot them out for at least my lifetime. Last night of Tory rule, hopefully, in my lifetime, I’m 68 and have only had c25 years of Labour governments, during which time we enjoyed the creation of the NHS, the expansion of further education, joining the EU (although I do credit Heath for the groundwork) higher standards of living and public standards generally kept high, on the other hand, under the Tories, especially 79-90 the country raped, manufacturing industries destroyed, mass privatisations of public services, that turned out well didn’t it, and in the last 5 years, the complete debasement and destruction of public faith in politicians…….I’m aiming to be the first at my local polling station as I was in 2016 for the Brexit debacle, this time, I hope, the British public will see the devastation and damage the Tories have wreaked on this great country, and boot them out for at least my lifetime. Thanks for your posts Dave, they’re my daily cheer-up watching ……….toodle oo 🦔

Let’s not forget that the outgoing government have renegotiated a bunch of government contracts with businesses that have Tories on the board such that they have huge lock-ins and thus penalty clauses. So should Labour want to change these contracts they will have to basically give more money to Tories to do so. Should be criminal.

I can't say I'm excited by a massive Labour majority. We need a few of Workers Party of Britain, Greens and left wing independents to get seats to keep pressure on Starmer and his mini- me's. We're still heading for war in Ukraine, more privatisation in NHS, no return to public ownership, etc. You heard the speakers at the Notts NUM do Dave, I'm hardly a lone figure. I voted for Socialist Labour Party in Mansfield using a postal vote. I trust Pete Dean, a former NUM solid a lot more than the Labour candidate for Mansfield, Steve Yemm, who was working against Corbyn while JC was leader and it has been alleged locally that Yemm is in Labour Friends of Israel. Its going to be an interesting night tomorrow/Friday morning. I think I might get up very early on Friday ( I don't work Fridays nowadays, this is Glen). I did consider staying up very late tomorrow but Catherine said most results will take a few hours to come in.
