I've never seen that with the coolant either. Looks like heat definitely was your enemy but also looks like whoever was in there messing around with something could have caused an issue that you just couldn't have prepared for. I think I had recomended on the forums the idea of having the engine case welded but looks like that would be more of an issue at the heart of things. Overall the best solution might be just to find a replacement case half for the 650 that is damaged since it is probably the more common of the parts you can find. Good luck with the endeavors! I'm out in the shop here shortly working on my NT650 as well!

I think so, as someone described this a “Super Heating event”, the 650 casing could possibly be repaired, but I would be concerned that there is a hairline crack and I get this done only to be looking at another issue. I considered another working engine but after this one I am gone off people. I haven’t decided yet but I think I will rebuild a 400 engine from the ones on the shelf, and put that in while I am sorting out the 650 as it’s not easy to find a 650 these days. I hope your bike is in better shape then this 😀, thanks for the input.

@@Yoke. Yes it is. I had it running but kept getting fuel contamination (from some varnished fuel in the tank) and then in the process of trying to get rid of that ruined the tank. I was able to get a great deal of a tank and matching body set from a fellow Hawker so I've just been lazy about getting it all back together the past year. I rebuilt and cleaned the carbs yesterday to get rid of the last of the fueling issues and in the process of putting on aftermarket gauges and my exhaust pipe tomorrow and then hopefully will be able to get it started, tuned, and balance the carbs, then go for a nice ride Thursday.

@@Yoke. I’m from The Netherland and might have a ‘spare’ 650 engine. I couldn’t figure out how to send a personal message, maybe you know how. If you’re interested, let me know. I’m currently taking a Hawk apart. Mostly for spare parts for another Hawk, but on both the engines were running. They’re not in perfect condition, but I hope I dont have the bolognese in either of them.

@@basx37 of that would be great, can you mail me on yokebikes@ gmail.com and we can chat, this I think is quite a unique case of abuse. Thanks a lot.

Oops! painful similarities to my case (See earlier comments). Well, at least the head, piston and cylinder seem to have survived. That clogging is however extreme! Better take a very close look at the rest of the cooling system as well and also check if all the oil channels are open. That broken 650 housing is another typical NT issue. Ever seen the Ricky Tang video's? Any idea why those front engine bolt seize up? Good luck anyway!

Yeah this is why I think I be better off starting with an engine on the bench and just leave this one aside, until I figure out what exactly went wrong. Yeah the rest was clean and now it’s not. No I haven’t seen that video, I will have a look. Why do these mounts go?

@@Yoke. Sorry for not answering sooner. I wasn’t aware you reacted. The long bolt that mounts the engine into the frame corrodes inside the engine mount. The tolerances which where chosen seem to be so low that the bolt becomes seized and only brute force will remove it ….. or break the housing.
