By the way the little girl in the video is his daughter, Willow. She appears in some of his other music videos as well (especially in the "Trilogy" which consists of: "Losing my mind", "Losing my life", and "Drugs"). I saw them in concert right before COVID (2/14/20), right before Derek Jones (the guitarist) passed away. One of my all time favorite bands.

Ronnie has opened another lifeline too many to know they are not alone. I've dealt with doctors that should never try to treat war vets by the book psychology. • @KrisThroughGlass

    Great reaction!
Ronnie Radke, the singer, practically IS the band and the creative head behind music and visuals. The video is not related to a video game, but Ronnie is a gamer on twitch, so I guess he took some inspiration from it.
Ronnie suffers from depression, panic attacks, PTSD (after being in prison while different face groups there were at least with each other and someone was stabbed right beside him) and anger issues.
The chorus is about the media painting him as a liar, cheater, etc, backing him in a corner until he snaps and gives them the monster they suspected him to be all along.
Ronnie does some serious soul stripping in most of his songs and isn't afraid to talk about his weaknesses and mistakes. He's worked hard to become a better person after growing up in a broken family and being a drug addict at some point.
I think you'll like the trilogy Losing My Mind, Losing My Life and Drugs. Maybe have the lyrics at hand, so you don't miss too much.
    Subbed!

@@KrisThroughGlass I believe that you are very well on point here. I was looking through the comments to see if anybody mentions the things that you did.
The only thing that you might have missed there is the meaning of his daughter. He really loves her and cares about her a great bit (I have never heard him say it explicitly, but you can just see that in everything he does). I think that this video very nicely shows what she means to him - a shining light, a force in his life that brings him back from the darkness. Something that makes him strive to be a better person. And makes him sad when he fails to be.
But as you have mentioned, I also believe that he has made great progress in his life and eventually, through those struggles, he always moves a bit closer to becoming the person he wants to be.

This song cuts deep. Ronnie is a recovering heroin addict and he writes about his demons often (some of his best material if i may say so myself) Especially as someone that has those same demons I really feel his music.
This song is all about that monster that still very much lives there below the surface (like i think with most heroin addicts, it never really "goes away" more like "goes dormant")
There is a couple lines that give me chills every time: "Every single fuckin day I get closer to the grave, I am terrified. I fell asleep at the wheel again, crashed my car just to feel again" all circling back to the self destructive nature of addiction and then the "nothingness" after getting clean as a result of screwing up our brain chemistry so bad.
I'm convinced Ronnie is a musical genius, in the way he expresses himself, the melodies he writes, and the themes he touches on. Massively underrated/underappreciated talent.

Love reaction videos like this! This song has resonated with me from the first time I heard it. I have battled depression my entire life, and during my youth it was more challenging because of the lack of support that I had. People in my life would say, "You don't go to Church, that's why you're sad" or "Oh, it can't be as bad as all that" or "Other people have it worse than you do." These comments basically made me feel like my depression was MY FAULT. And that's what I get from that line. "I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm a non-believer, I'm a popular monster." I have all the reasons that people can "pin" my depression on without ever trying to help. Luckily, I did find the right treatment with the appropriate doctors that helped me. Depression is a life long disease, and the battle is real. Thank you for channels like this that help expose Mental Illness and make it a conversation worth having around artwork. Kudos!

I've always interpreted Ronnie's character in this as having some kind of dissociative illness, possibly with hallucinations. All the people he sees out on the street have glowing eyes, showing that he sees other people as monsters. When he changes into a monster himself, that's his other persona taking over, doing things so he doesn't have to, hurting everyone around him as a defense mechanism if you would.
A song I think would interest you a lot is Family by Badflower. It's one of the closest descriptions of my own depression symptoms that I've ever heard. I play it when I need to feel like I'm not alone.

Whoa, never heard of Falling in Reverse before. This is just what I need today. My depression is terrible right now and I’ve been raging (internally, mostly) all day. Music like this, that put into words what I’m feeling, is good company.
Thanks for reacting to this! Will check out their music.
PS. If you like the rap and metal combo, I suggest reacting to Scarlxrd’s music. His song Heart Attack is a good place to start.

My personal demons aren't anywhere near as serious as his but i still sometimes feel guilty for being so enthralled by their work. Ronnie is a great artist who puts himself in his music. He was in prison in the early 2000s and formed FIR while he was there.
His childhood was hard, with drug attict parents an a mother who left when he was still a toddler. His older brother who he always looked up to died few years ago. both brothers struggled with drugs too. The girl in the video is Ronnies daughter, she make him turn and try to be a better man, cause he is afraid his story could repeat with her if he doesnt.

I am glad that reaction videos like this still exist. I am more often than not even inclined to watch them anymore because most of them are .... not good. Thank you for making quality content like this.

  • @fallxnangxl8639

My own personal interpretation of both the lyrics and the video itself: he's struggling with PTSD, depression and other mental illness. These illnesses are like demons inside him. When said "demons" take over, destruction follows in his wake. Him transforming into a werewolf is symbolism for those mental illnesses, making him lash out at the people around him.
This song hits very close to home for me, because I can relate to every single aspect of it, from struggling with those mental illnesses to them making me lash out at the people around me and those that are closest to me.

The monster is a physical manifestation of the mental health issues he struggles with every day. The glowing eyes of the other people he sees is to show that this monster is not his alone. It is a monster that exists in many of us. A popular monster, one would say. Ronnie is an incredible musician with a story I believe you may find interesting. Definitely check out the Trilogy that has already been mentioned, as well as the songs of his that he chose to redo. Make sure to watch both versions of each - The Drug in Me is You/The Drug in Me is Reimagined and I'm Not a Vampire/I'm Not a Vampire Revamped. Zombified is his most recent gift to the world and is incredible as well. Coming Home is beautiful, so is Superhero. Just Like You is fun. All of the music is relatable in one way or the other. Ronnie drops his heart in his music and makes you feel everything. Listening to Losing My Life (song 2 of the trilogy) is emotionally exhausting and worth every second.

This song speaks to me so much as a sufferer of CPTSD. This is how it feels inside and outside but the part with his daughter is how i feel about my son. Inside is so dark but no one sees it and my son is why I chose to get help along with just being tired and not being able to help myself anymore. I did all i could do when i developed cptsd and had no one but thanks to God, EMDR, Brainspotting and great therapist I am doing so much better yet I still have a ways to go. Anyome doing or thinking about doing emdr or brainspotting just know that is truly is challenging and takes a lot of determination. It helps but is so draining and sucks but SO WORTH IT!

I relate to it as I’m having to reevaluate my life and change my perspective of it to change the meaning of it. I’m going to be starting EMDR soon, heard and read so many good things about it :) I hope you’re doing well David, keep fighting that CPTSD battle! It is a uphill battle but we got this. Therapy helps immensely you also get to see how your brain tries to fight against the therapy it is truly an amazing experience. One thing you must do is be willing to let go and also be 100% truthful. It is hard to do seeing how we have survived by doing the complete opposite but you will do great!

    • @godiam502
      @godiam502 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@mariamerigold may I give you some advice, that you can discard if you like, it's just what has helped me - I'm a veteran of CPTSD and associated mental health issues. I've done all the psychotherapy there is to do. The only thing that has 'cured' or properly controls it all for me is either a fully carnivorous or ketogenic diet, and daily short burst of very intense exercise. It has changed my life. Hopefully the EMDR will work for you guys, but it simply didn't for me. The main reason is that the trauma that precipitates the CPTSD causes structural changes to the brain (left pre-frontal cortex, lining of the amygdala, etc, but it's really only what I described above that can fix that. The side effects are: improved body composition/weighloss, better hormonal control, healthier hair and nails, reversal of autoimmune diseases, reduced blood pressure, reversal of type 2 diabetes, clearer skin, longevity and looking younger. Prolonged water fasting will do the same thing, but make sure you supplement with enough sodium, potassium and magnesium. Another thing that can help is supplemental Magnesium Glycinate (not other forms of Magnesium), specifically glycinate as glycine plays a big role on neurotransmission control. Sorry for the long post.

I'm so glad you got to do this one! I suffer from multiple mental health issues and this song hits so close to home. The little girl is his daughter. These songs were written while he was in prison. I'm sure he was missing his daughter and feels, like many fathers that have been held from their children, that his daughter is what keeps him grounded. This song gets me emotional because I'm dealing with it right now. I cant see my daughter and my ex is using my mental health to make that possible.

  • @philm3158

From what I remember reading in an interview is that it's about someone actually suffering from depression, ptsd, etc and it's seen as a phase because unfortunately in todays world some mental disorders are seen as a personality trait that makes you unique, quirky, etc. So when you go and seek help you're being told it's just a phase, something you'll get over, and you're left to deal with it on your own to the point where you snap and are seen as the bad guy because of this underlying health issue that everyone ignores because it's become more of a fad amongst other people who say they have it in order to make themselves seem special. As someone who's survived a couple suicide attempts, you can really see who's hurting and who's using mental disorder to gain clout for themselves.

So glad you’re finally doing FIR. This song and video aren’t attached to any movie, tv show or game. The little girl is his daughter Willow who he has said is responsible for motivating him to get clean, sober and stay out of jail. She’s in a few of his other videos too.
His other songs and videos are equally thought provoking and cinematic. The videos also tend to add even more nuance to the lyrics. For instance Popular Monster is about mental illness, but how we’re also our own worst enemy. Kinda like how if we were to tell our own life’s story we tend to paint ourselves as the villain in it.
I hope you do some of his other music because I’m sure you’ll enjoy them as well.

My take on this song, from the stand point of a DV and SA survivor, is that the "Popular Monster" is the mental illness that so many of us don't deal with because in his version of the story, his therapist just says "Hey, It's just a phase you're going through and it will pass". When he knows that it's NOT just a phase, it's NOT normal, not everyone goes through this, and he's pleading for answers and the help he needs to wake up each day and fight off the feeling that this is a never ending war between his good side and bad side in his mind!
At least that's what I interpret. Im not a Dr, just a 51 yr old who has had hard times, as MANY, MANY, MANY of us have had!
Thank you for your react videos! Is nice to see a Dr without his head in a book of explanations. A Dr that hears the voice and says "I'm here, I'm listening, and you don't have to do this alone! Im gonna get in your head with you and help you find the right path to follow and we aren't going to mask the issue with drugs, we're going to squash the issue and HEAL the cause.. Destroying the "Popular Monster" forever!!! 🥰💕

I understand this video so much I feel exactly like this in my life. We become something that our environment makes us but we don’t like it . It comes from a dark place but we know the light is inside somewhere and no one seems to care or help us. We have to struggle to fight our way out. I feel that the little girl and the light ( his daughter) is a sign of hope in the darkness of it all. A symbol of transformation. I was the same I didn’t have feelings for anyone or anything until my children taught me how to love. Even though, we remain holding close and embracing our dark side. The struggle teaches us how to respect and appreciate the good with the bad, the balance.
