Thank you for your time and effort to education that are in all the videos. Tell the boss I appreciate him sharing. Taking time out of his day. THANK YOU
The intro is getting better. Soon you will be doing cartwheels ending with both index fingers pointing to your right. Ballet has made both you girls quite athletic.
Having your Dad become comfortable with talking to the videos is really great. He adds so much in helping me understand what is involved with owning a lumber mill.🎉
I love to hear the Boss talk about the process… I always learn something new. My family and I have started a small logging/milling operation here in Southern Kentucky so we are eager for info. We took advantage of a rare opportunity when a massive wind storm uprooted hundreds of trees in our area. Rather than see them piled and burned, we began harvesting the logs. We purchased a new Woodland 130 MAX mill. It has become a part time family project… including our grandkids as well. Your family has been a great inspiration! So… tell the Boss to keep talking us through this new adventure.
I helped restore wild fisher to the woods your father is cutting. As the furbearer biologist for the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, like the Penn. Game Commission, I helped gather live fisher from NH trappers in the mid 1990's, long before you were born, for release in PA. Over a three-year period I shipped nearly 200 live fisher there. There now is a thriving population of fisher where they had been extirpated over a century before. And throw in a couple of live otter before that to help restore them too.
Thanks Ken, Emerald and Jade the camera lady! I had no idea there were so many aspects to running a lumberyard. Thanks for the explanation and the video! Have a wonderful weekend! TTFN
Another great video! Thanks. I've visited a veneer plant in Southern Indiana and it's amazing how they do it. Great opportunity for you to take a field trip to your local veneer yard and show us how they do it. Only 10 miles away.
let them answer, but the little I have seen/read, IKEA has veneer applied (to their sawdust and glue?) in China. They rotate/spin the log and slice off a thin sliver until the log is no more. Think of a cheese slicer using a pice of wire as a cutter. Think plywood. As for "export", that's a new one.
A lumberjack walks into the company office to get paid. The secretary says, “ I have a check here for cutting down 236 trees this week.” The lumberjack replies, “I actually cut down 237 trees.” Are you sure?”, says the secretary, “Your foreman counted 236 on the truck.” “Sure, I’m sure,” replies the lumberjack. “I kept a log”.
About 5-years ago, they took 100+ double-trailer loads of black walnut out from behind our house. I talked to the logger and he mentioned that it was all going overseas to Japan and that most of it was veneer...
This is the first time I remember seeing the big truck on the log trailer, maybe the Boss Man can do a video on it explaining the pros and cons of it and how much better it may be, etc.
Many years ago I worked in a place that shaved logs into paper thin pieces for making veneer. Shaving the bark off the logs after they cook in the vats with a hand pneumatic hand planer was rough work.
Boss Man definitely hitting his stride after he warmed up. Great explanation. I’d like to hear his take more often. 👍🏼 He’s a real salt of the earth kinda man. We need more like him.
Good video thanks have a great bike ride Ken and Teri, have an awesome day kids. Love ya. Thanks for having the *STAR* Of the channel speak again, look out Ken your getting comfortable in front of the Camera. Expert Camera work, well done everyone.
Yes, you are lucky to have that veneer mill only about 10 miles away because, especially these days, transportation costs can become prohibitively expensive. Emerald’s “let’s get into this video” turn was particularly sweet today and at the end I was struck by how she is maturing.
Omg . I wanna work there .Felling and milling / hand splitting wood and making charcoal are one of my favorite hobbies. I'm a Carpenter/ woodworker by trade . I also make bows and forge knives . Make my own arrows and forge the tips by hand as well. Oh and I make the strings as well . Lol .
Em, that was a great demo about veneer. Nice to know that people are still making veneer here at our home state. Yes, furniture makers and repair of Antiques, is still being done.
You might want to explain what veneer is and how it is processed. I imagine that the log is peeled in a continuous sheet as it is rolled like on a lathe? Jerry in S.E. Pa.
Love to see you guys climb up the ladder of lumber quality analysis and the sales value. People used to ask me why you can buy Brazilian or Indonesian mahogany as cheaply as locally grown maple? I would "Joke" that our lawyers charge way more that the South American ones, given that we steal the wood then fight it out in court. That is a step up from the tradition of just killing the locals and taking the wood. The wood business is thousands of years old and there is a lot to learn.
Understanding one’s market and developing new products to market is perhaps the hardest part of becoming a successful family business, whether that is logging, farming or whatever. I’m impressed with your family’s efforts in this regard. While not every new business venture will be a winner, you really don’t know until you try. As a land owner, I appreciate your emphasis on maximizing return for both yourself as well as the land owner. The two local mills I deal with are just focused on rough cut for fencing, barns and shed, plus of course firewood (for which supply never really gets to equal demand in my area). I recently bought 1000 feet of purlins for a barn addition and some of it was the most beautiful hickory I’ve seen. It would have made great flooring and it seems using them for a barn roof is sort of a waste.
Knew it, Boss Man wood be logging in the hours lumbering with unloading logs for a Friday video so that Emerald and Jade would knot be board and milling about on a Friday afternoon.
Thank you. We run a TK1400 saw mill. I had no idea about the potential of higher value Veneer logs. It is neat to learn from you guys! Great job from every prospective.
Everything is going to be used...n you...the lumber team are the " why" , that happens!! Great job ( team), stay safe, n C ya on the next video! 🐺🧙♂️🦊
Hello Emerald from Sydney Australia. Yes, veneers and burls extending natural resources: can you cut and glue veneer onto plywood? Maybe PVA or spray contact adhesive, 'bookend' like pages in a book. 🌏🇭🇲
If you are stock piling high value logs in your yard in the sun for any length of time you should consider a water spray system. It stops staining and insect attack as well as end splitting.
We had a thinning cut done on our property a number of years ago, nice seeing what happens behind the scene with loggers.
It’s always nice when the Boss Man gives his talks. It’s also great to see he has a vision and is working to achieve it. Well done Boss Man!
talk! that was educational, y is he not MORE here!. busy busy. yes veneering. please share!
Having your Dad become comfortable with talking to the videos is really great. He adds so much in helping me understand what is involved with owning a lumber mill.🎉
I learn something every time i see your videos. Thank you.

I am so impressed with how hard Lumber Capital Log Yard Works to maximize profits for everyone that buys your lumber! God Bless all of you!
Nice work Boss.
The most valuable thing is the one you can't sell. Knowledge,
But you can share the hell out of it...
And them kids be soaking it up.
What happens to logs in the community mostly stays in the community. Nice way to give back to all the land owners and their logs.
Thanks Ken, Emerald and Jade the camera lady! I had no idea there were so many aspects to running a lumberyard. Thanks for the explanation and the video! Have a wonderful weekend! TTFN
Ken, I think the veneer and the export business sound like a great addition. Em, this was a good video, btw!keep them coming!
Let's make Friday the day we hear from the Boss.
Another great video! Thanks. I've visited a veneer plant in Southern Indiana and it's amazing how they do it. Great opportunity for you to take a field trip to your local veneer yard and show us how they do it. Only 10 miles away.
I'd appreciate an expansion of the differences in use between standard, export, and veneer milling.

@@cliffontheroad Thank you. Rotary shaving a log sprang to mind. But I didn't want to assume I knew.
I had that job one summer working in the woods. Grading the logs to determine where they would be shipped. I was known as a peeler picker.
Thanks!
Bossman Ken knows his stuff!
The care you have for your property owners and community speaks volumes! Good job!!
Y’all have ya hands in everything! And nothing goes to waste awesome job 👏🏻
Always looking forward to a LCLY video when I get home from work and great to see the Boss Man too. Keep up the hard work.
Great video. If you've never seen a veneer mill, it's worth the time to look it up.
You guys are really inspiring. Good honest work will always reward.
Have a great weekend LCLY family! 👍👍👍
Beard looks good. Everyone should have one.
Even the girls?
@@dieterkoch6563 Especially the ladies. ;-)

our veneer buyer wanted full length stems we would cut to length under his direction. I've seen some beautiful black cherry logs.
Boss Man definitely hitting his stride after he warmed up. Great explanation. I’d like to hear his take more often. 👍🏼 He’s a real salt of the earth kinda man. We need more like him.
Its amazing how much that arm can pickup with it so long. Nice diameter of logs. Bigger equals more value. Another great Friday video.
Great video. From a business standpoint you are going to have figure out how to keep your help long term.
The Boss !
Emerald your Dad is the hardest worker in the log yard by far he works his hands to the bone.
Good video thanks have a great bike ride Ken and Teri, have an awesome day kids. Love ya. Thanks for having the *STAR* Of the channel speak again, look out Ken your getting comfortable in front of the Camera. Expert Camera work, well done everyone.
Thank you for the great explanation of veneer. It is good to see your efforts keep the local economy rolling. I hope you have a great weekend.
Emerald is there any chance you can visit a veneer mill?
Nice equipment.
Always great to have the Boss Man providing "top notch," expertise knowledge and morale values. Have a great weekend! From veteran Charlie. :-)
How do you figure the land owners cut on the logs you saw on your sawmill?
Wish I would have known about you the last time I had my timber cut!
Have you ever done a tour of the veneer shop so we could see it get made?
Very interesting. Thankyou all at "Lumber Capital".
I'm guessing by the fresh untainted paint on the log hauler and boom this is the piece of machinery you were talking about a few posts back?
Very interesting. Thanks for posting

We export lots of logs at Price Wood Products located by Cincinnati Ohio. A few miles away.
Em, that was a great demo about veneer. Nice to know that people are still making veneer here at our home state. Yes, furniture makers and repair of Antiques, is still being done.
Sweet, great business young felah you keep them young girls busy.😊😊
That is cool.
I never really thought about where the veneer wood comes from.
You might want to explain what veneer is and how it is processed. I imagine that the log is peeled in a continuous sheet as it is rolled like on a lathe? Jerry in S.E. Pa.
Todos ustedes son maravillosos!!!!
I am still not clear what Veneer means ? got the XP part, if it does not make Veneer ?

Thank you for explaining that. Very interesting to learn
I hear veneer. i think plywood or a super thin piece glued to particle bord
Super informative! Great video for everyone.
Like your videos Emerald, but maybe give a quick description of veneer logs in the beginning.
Hello Bossman.
Hi Ken: Did you get a new truck?
Love that log trailer! Didn’t know you guys had both sizes, pretty sweet!
Hey Ken. If the veneer buyer doesn't want them could they go as first and seconds? This was excellent and I learned a lot thank you.👍♥️♥️
Good job father like daughter well spoken Have awesome weekend everyone ❤️📹🪵👍😉
