  • What's up everyone and welcome to another Entry of The Lift Journal. To start this one off I want to say thank you for your ongoing support and kind words. All of this positive reaction to this channel has led me to a Ambassadorship with Manera wetsuits and accessories and Uni-foil foils. I will be doing some short segments on their products soon which will give a little more insight on what they make. Being an ambassador for any brands was never on the radar for me with foiling, but I am having such a good time lets see where we can take this! As far as my foiling world I have gotten a few new items as well. In the past I had mentioned how I am interested in learning how to wing so... I had to get a board. I stumbled upon the Amundson Custom site and found a 62 Liter Uncle Nubby on sale. It's considered a hybrid big prone/wing and figured it would be a good match. I will be most likely borrowing a much bigger board for the first couple tries but wanted something that I would not outgrow too fast. I also got myself a new prone board from Amundson as well. A 4'2 x17.75x32L FireBolt V2 which at first I was a little nervous about but by the second wave I am hooked. Smaller overall outline has made me feel more connected to the foil and honestly it paddles insane for its size. Last little treat for myself is the 13 inch G10 pack by Uni-Foil. After running the 14 for a while I decided it was time to try something new in my setup. I knew that I have kinda adjusted everything to my liking so knew that a smaller tail would loosen up the foil and give a little more speed. This was 100% accurate and most likely won't use the 14 unless there is a lot of turbulence in the water. As far as the main focus of this entry I have really been working on handling my turns better. In my mind going into turns with more confidence and in my body trying to bring my body a little lower and not using my hands for balance as much. I am also trying to push through carves with my knees as the power source and bring the movement up the wave and back down. Any suggestions are more than welcome. Again thank you for your support and so excited for these new opportunities in foil.

Nice work on the gear hookups! John has great foil boards and in general is a truly nice guy. It's really good to see how fast your improving its made me put down my wing and dedicate a little more time to prone.

Thanks so much for the kind words. Ya his prone board has been really great. I really dig it a lot and can't wait to get on his wing board.

Congrats on getting hooked up with Unifoil -- I love my Progression 140 & 170 wings. I know you are acclimating to a new board and now a smaller tail and maybe shouldn't change too many variables all at once -- but you seem to adapt and progress super quickly to new equipment. I would like to see Unifoil send the 830mm Katana mast to you next. I think that will help decrease the breaching and allow you to lean more into your turns. As far as wing foiling -- I started that journey last year and borrowed my friend's 115L board for my first 5 sessions on mediocre lake conditions. I then bought a 75L board (I'm 65kg or 145lbs) -- went to OBX in solid wind conditions. It was challenging and a lot of falling off and climbing up -- but once I got it -- I am never going back to a larger board. Next step is to go down to a 50L board.

Thanks so much, Its funny you mention the longer mast. I was actually thinking about getting a shorter one for shallow conditions but a longer one would definetly help with my breach issue from both turns and running out of water. Hoping my wing stuff shows up soon and I can start the journey. Thank you for the support as always!

Ripping. Try a bit of drop knee style in your turns to see how that feels.

@@theliftjournalyeah the drop knee is crucial, but be prepared for some push back/g force on the back knee. This is more of a factor with some rigs compared to others. Ease into it haha. I swear I almost tweaked my knee when demoing a different front wing than I was used to.

Nice dude. The wing is great for more flight time. Amundson made me a custom surfboard years back for kiting. He is the ‘guy’ on Oahu for foil boards. @nywaterman
