  • What’s up everyone.
Welcome to another Lift Journal entry, thank you for tuning in. Sorry it’s been a while. The weather has not been great, and a lot of swell but the wind has been funky. Changing around sand bars making it kind of difficult to try to find new places to foil. But anyway in this episode, I continue to use the Portal "protocol" Disco Butter and see the value in having a little more width in the nose of a board. I also revisit the 170 by Unifoil, which is a wing that I have not used in over three months. In my one session on the 170 it lets me realize that I can take my time with foiling and concentrate more on factors that I feel will make me a better foiler. I love the speed and turning radius of the 125 but I’m not 100% sure that I was ready to make that my main foil or for me replace the 140. It has amazing moments but also at times it is hard for me to control which make it a difficult foil when I’m already in difficult conditions. Anyway, hope you enjoy and I will be trying to come back on TH-cam more frequently going forward.

Interested to hear more about the two Portals. What they each do well and what you like about each. I’m suffering from analysis paralysis. Ha

The 125 is "the one", but so is the 140, and the 170, and the 200 😋

Definitely interested in the new shapes coming out, the mid length especially. Not sure the length on your disco potato either. I can catch a lot with my 4’3. But if I can open up on a wave a little earlier with less effort, I am all about saving energy for when I am up.
Also, due to a multitude of factors I just don’t prone or get on waves everyday. So pump fatigue became real. I do regularly swim and gym as both are minutes away, unlike the ocean. It helps, but it’s not the same. I was able to get on foil atleast 5 days a week when I found a dock suitable for starts. Upped my pump game and endurance. Helped me understand the sweet spot on that foil as well. Beat the gym even though it’s not waves or swell.
Also totally feel the vibe on starting with the pop up, it can throw the whole wave off or send you off into exhaustion if your just trying to get out of the break from a poor pop.
Anyways I love the content, the progression, the takes on new gear and the footage. I know it’s not easy putting it together. Seems like a passion project.
But for some of us, we are the only proners or even foilers in the area. So watching content or listening to casts is the only outlet. So thank you.
