Making the fabric boxes as part of my Christmas Countdown

- Hello! I've been trying to upload this video for DAYS! Sometimes this youtube stuff is not so straightforward!
Well, here it is now. the fabric boxes are one of my favourite things to make, simple and quirky, using left over scraps, they are a great way to express your creativity!
You should be able to work out how to make your own, but fire me an email if you have questions - I finally got the correct email in the 'about' section - thank you Wendy!
These few are in the shop now, but i would love to hear if you make one for yourself and how it turned out!

I also have 3 kitties. They do understand if you talk to them a lot.
February 2 2024 Maryland USA: Great point with making ten of something especially when do makes forr giving away. I like to make things and later find just the perfect person to give them too. You are such an incredible giving lady and teaching each of us to do the same. With bits and bobs what a smile you would bring on someone’s face.

Oh my gosh we make similar boxes out of white canvas which I then hand paint herbs, wild flowers etc. on using acrylic paints. Nice to visit friends and see they use them for pebbles, shells, buttons and other wee items.
Beth Grant-DeRoos I have one for my dishwasher tablets (!) three in the bathroom with various things, one full of paper scraps for list making and notes, and yet more for other mundane uses. So good to have a pretty thing for such uses! They are so easy, I hope others have a go! ❤️😊

My fathers favourite word for anything that was slightly less than perfect was "Rustic". We had a rustic patio, rustic wallpapering, rustic tree pruning, in my childhood home, and usually the 'rustic' bit was where I helped. My father very much encouraged learning through doing, and he always praised use whatever the result was, and then asked the questions, "what did you find hardest bit to do? How could we make it easier to do?" I loved taking things to bits to find out how they worked. He encouraged that too :D
My mum used to call my cooking 'rustic' ha ha!! what a lovely attitude your Dad had xxxx
@@thelasthomelyhouse Indeed. He raised 4 children on his own. He was a very good dad. My sister, 2 brothers and I were very lucky to have been born his children. :)

HI Kate! Just made my first fabric box from your pattern--I love it! Made it with some printed canvas and gingham I already had in my stash, and just for fun I weighted it with craft sand and added four glittery pony beads at the bottom corners for feet. Thank you so much for sharing this versatile pattern!

On Feb. 21, 2021 I'd say the word you are looking for, re your fabric boxes, is "rustic" which is a popular choice or the trending choice these days although "scrappy" is a very good word. Dividing one of the box sides & adding in beads & sequins behind the netting is excellent !!!

Dwayne Custer well I think that’s the last shop update one Dwayne, now I have some cooking/decorating/other things...... I never run out of ideas! Maybe I’ll follow Norma round all one day, though that shouldn’t take long as she’s asleep most of the tine! 😂❤️😊
Locally we have a shop run by the senior center called The Legacy. It is filled to the brim with cast off craft and sewing notions...it is a truly magical and wondrous place. I wish I could transport you there for a day!

I could donate half of my excess to them! 😂❤️😊 I used to have a workshop away from home, about 4 miles, and when I left there my home looked like one of those tv shows about Extreme Hoarders. ! 😳 ! It took me years to shed most of it! 🙄❤️😊

Love this video. I will have to try to make some boxes. Years ago I bought lots of jeans from yard sales and sewed the pockets on a huge piece of fabric and embellished them all. I had a terrible sewing machine then, so I glued the pockets on. Thinking of cutting them out individually to put in art quilts now. I love making things in batches. Years ago I made cinnamon Santa pins and had my little assembly line!

heather foley I’m looking at Rocky right now, there on the windowsill. He’s been twice today! He was there first thing and has been hanging around this evening too. I guess it’s getting harder to catch his food. He looks a mess. But he won’t let me anywhere near him 🙁

heather foley well I’ve been doing this off and on for over five years, so I can’t see why he would change now? I can go months without seeing him at all. The farm has some lovely warm places and plenty of ‘food’ running around down there in the barns! 😖 but I guess he’s getting older. 🤔 poor guy.
Nifty idea to use jeans. I interline mine with TimTex which makes them quite firm and upright. I’m going to give your version a go. Thank you.

Cyn Forest I’ve taught this in the past and used interlining - I’m guess that TimTex? and it worked just fine. We also made neater boxes without the exposed seam, but I prefer my scrappy style xxx ❤️😊 Norma is on her way xxxxx

They are too cute, a great way to use up bits n pieces of left over haberdashery, and jeans, awesome, Kate. Great video, we were being entertained by kitty in the background, Norma loves to be the high light, she make me laugh every time, as I have the same thing happening here too...!

I love the net pockets with beads and sequins. When you held the first one up, it looked like the bib of overalls. I think that would be a cute idea for kids’ overalls, but of course they would need to be hand washed with care.

These are so adorable. And I love that you used things from your stash of fabrics. I have a huge bag of jeans that I've been muddling through and this is a perfect little project. I love it!
A little like Japanese Rice bags, but easier to embellish with applique, machine or hand embroidery, lots of possibles.

Those are soooo cute! While I was watching, I thought of making the sides a bit taller and turning the edge down an inch or so. I love ALL your videos!
