    I was lucky to see them when they came to Cape Coral, Florida and saw the whole procedure starting them being taken out of their trailer, being brushed and made looking ‘spiffy’ before getting attached to the wagon...it took quite some time but a lot of people had shown up and we waited patiently. Finally it was time, all those gorgeous horses were ready, the two drivers were ready and the dog sat so proudly next to them. I had a chance to talk to one of their handlers and learned a little bit about them...he also took a picture of me in front of one of them and I must say that beautiful horse was humangeous. Glad I got a chance to see them!

    What is the reason for knotting their tails up so tight? So they don't get caught up in the rigging?

  • @rsoubiea
    @rsoubiea 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    i read they dock the tail (not all the way) so that it wont get caught and tangled in the harness. that would certainly be painful or even cause injury not only to the horse, but the team and the guys riding on the wagon. did you see at the beginning of the video they do have tails. i am sure its done purely for safety of everyone involved.

    They look so pretty with their manes all braided up and their hoof feathers brushed, but they shouldn't dock their tails. It's painful for the horses to have a docked tail!

    • @mochimacaroon400
      @mochimacaroon400 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's done when the horse is young and was origianly done to help keep the horses tail from getting stuck in the tack and getting clumped up with mud. They are usualy numbed and are so young they most likely dont remeber it. Any pain is long gone and any "scary" memories are long forgotten.

    • @dianefurth2968
      @dianefurth2968 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont like clipping horses tails. It is still a needless amputation of a healthy bodypart. The only afford it brings is saving time as the tails could be braided as they do with unclipped taild as well. As an owner I know the time that you need to to it, so for the groomer it is easier,but still unnecessary, for if you think of the function of a horsetail as the horses only weapon against midges and flys.

    • @alexie832

      I guess you don't mind their tails getting tangled in the wheels. Besides I doubt they docked them like that. They probably cut the hair short.

    • @dianefurth2968
      @dianefurth2968 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexie832 Tail docking is prohibited in Germany as a case of animal cruelty. And no, our work horses do not tangle their hair in carriages or the woodwork because there are other possibilities like cutting the hair or braiding it.

      They do it for safety so that the tail doesn’t get caught in the harness of the wagon.

    • @KingsMom831
      @KingsMom831 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ramblingbill9101 I’m sure that is comforting for the horse & “safety” makes it worth it to the horses. They would not even be in a situation like this if not for us putting them there in the first place.
      This practice is NOT necessary.
      I hope you will consider learning more about this. My comment is meant to be a rebuttal to this comment & others like it.
      Horses NEED their tails for things like swatting flies & for communicating with other horses/herd members & even people.
      It’s a body part & we think it’s our right to mutilate them!!??🤔

    Stop supporting Budweiser until they STOP chopping off the tails of these beautiful horses as well as sending those who don't "cut the mustard" in big cramped wood crated to Japan to be slaughtered for meat. Humans can be so cruel Tail docking is cruelty to animals. Animal cruelty has the penalty of 10 years in prison! Thank you President Trump.

    They seem to have a happy life, but PLEASE STOP DOCKING YOUR HORSE'S TAILS! It hurts them, and the bones and tissue in their tail is part of their SPINAL CORD. So STOP. DOCKING. THE. HORSES. TAILS!

    • @b2wtkagm
      @b2wtkagm 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong wrong wrong. It doesn't hurt them and it's an extremely quick process that they recover from almost immediately. It's a signature look for draft horses and ensures tails aren't caught up in the hitch. Also much more sanitary for breeding and birthing purposes.

    • @dianefurth2968
      @dianefurth2968 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@b2wtkagm Thats the only reason, to create a signature look. If you are for sanitarey reasons at birth, braid your mares tail before giving birth - same effect. Ancient war horses tails were braided for battle and that they would not tangle anywhere or catch fire, so why not use that old technique and safe your beloved animal from a needles surgery.

    They can't rest their heads for hours with that setup. Notice in some videos they will shake their heads from discomfort at the end of an event. The bit is overkill too. I've been with horses all of my life. Only a few hours outside a day??? Are you kidding me?? Horses sleep only about three hours a day. Being in a stall for hours and hours must be mind numbing to the horses.

    • @equinesoul1968

How would YOU manage a team of 8 huge horses? Magic? These aren't Unicorns in a fairy story, they're working animals. Whoever said that about city slickers was spot on. Clydesdales are a joy to all.
