@01:42: this is supposed to be Gorbatchev, the USSR leader at the time. He had a birthmark on his forehead. All the men around the table are lookalikes of people who were considered to be leaders of enemy states and/or terrorist organizations by the US then. You can spot Yasser Arafat (PLO/Fatah leader), Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini (Iran Supreme leader), Fidel Castro (Cuba President), Mouammar Khadafi (Lybia President), Hafez Al Assad (Syria President), etc…
This was a fun watch along with you guys 😂 18:57 Pistachio nuts. Around the time of filming, pistachios in USA were imported and dyed red to mask stains from the harvest. More advanced harvesting methods were developed and dyeing the pistachios are now obsolete.
This was a joyous experience, you guys are the perfect fish out of water audience. The convenience store next to my house had a movie rental section and I watched this movie so much that they just let me have it.
A merciless attack on the laugh muscles. Outstanding police comedy with gags every minute. The plot is the source of a firework display of slapstick gags, absurd satire and lampooning of successful film and television genres. Not always subtle and tasteful, but insanely funny. 😁
Hello Marian & Joy!😊 The two sequels are very funny too!😆 The guy with the birth mark on his forehead is supposed to be Mikhail Gorbachev. He was the President of the Soviet Union, and other high positions in the Union in the 80s and early 90s. Great reactions to this fun comedy, Guys!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Happy Holidays!🎄😊
Yeah the French definitely love their slapstick humor. Good call on that and also in realizing that was Elvis wife. Not even Americans know that when they react to this movie. The "serious" humor that you guys talk about that Frank has is called "deadpan" in Hollywood talk. It's a type of delivery when doing comedy sketches. Great reaction as always guys, you're the best! Game over!
A strike is when the pitch is thrown over the plate and within the batter's strike zone. A ball is when the pitch does not pass over the plate, inside (close to the batter) or outside (away from the batter)..
One of the funniest films ever! Several laugh out loud gags! I've watched it several times over the years and I still find it hilarious! Great reactions!
Yup, some of the old French comedy movies are awesome 😊 Louis de Funès movies and Jacques Tati movies was some of my faves back then. English crazy humor with Monty Python are also awesome btw 😊
Leslie Nielsen was famous as a dramatic actor before 1980. He was cast in Airplane because having a serious actor deliver all those silly lines made them even funnier. But everybody was surprised to find that he had a skill for comedy, and he's been famous for that ever since.
This movie is primarily a "spoof" type of comedy, making fun on the conventions and tropes in police dramas. It is actually originally a TV show called "Police Squad." They only made 6 episodes, but Leslie Neilson was in the show as well. It's great. Leslie Neilson's style of humor is "deadpan." He primarily delivers the comedy with a very serious / straight face. Other Spoof movies by this same creative team: Top Secret!, The Kentucky Fried Movie, Hot Shots. Top Secret is a spoof of spy movies (and Elvis movies). The Kentucky Fried movie spoofs television shows, commercials and martial arts films. Hot Shots spoofs Top Gun. Hot Shots has a sequel. The Naked Gun as two sequels.
The real interesting part is that most of the actors in the movies were really serious actors before. George Kennedy who plays Leslie Nielsens boss won an oscar and Nielsen was sort of a character actor which shows what great talent those guys had. Combine that with a world class script and Weird Al (yes it is him in the police station) and you get this...one of the best silly comedies of all time (in my opinion)...my absolute favorite joke of all time is when in the police station Frank Drebbin walks by the wall on the outside...
*John Houseman,* the driving instructor, is a *Golden Globe* and *Oscar* winner who played a harda** contract law professor everyone was afraid of in *The Paper Chase*
I'm excited to see you guys watching Naked Gun. This is one of the funniest movies ever made. The 2 sequels are also really funny, but the 1st one is the best.
When they are sitting in the car outside Ludwig's office, they are eating pistachio nuts. At the time, pistachios were harvested by waiting for them to fall off the tree and later gathering them off the ground, so the shells got all discolored and unappealing. Hence producers stained them that bright red, and as any knows who ate them, the red easily rubbed off. Since then, they have invented giant shakers which grip the trunk of the pistachio trees and vibrate them at the right frequency. Hence they come off all at once and can be gathered by first putting large tarps on the ground. So pistachios are no longer stained red and the younger generation don't know how annoying this red stain was getting it on your fingers and lips. ____ In lieu of not being able to smoke while playing the game, baseball players used to get the fix from nicotine by chewing the tobacco. This (I understand, never tried it) irritates your mouth, producing copious amounts of salvia, so you wind up having to spit a lot. (Old-time saloons used to have special cuspidors - large jars sitting on the floor for guys who used to chew tobacco. Very unsanitary as patrons often missed the spittoon.)
Yes, 2 1/2 and 3 1/3 are great sequels. When you are done with this series, check out the Pink Panther series with Peter Sellers, starting with the 1963 film and including "A Shot in the Dark". Another bumbling cop with the same slapstick humor and funny dialog. Guaranteed to crack you up, even the quick subtle things. Loved your reaction to this. Especially the bit in Ludwig's office and his escape. The scolding about shooting the actors in the park was a reference to a Dirty Harry movie. Weird Al is a very popular comedy musician, still around doing his thing. He was in the movie UHF.
1:42 to answer your question , 🙂 its a birthmark , that guy saw with the birthmark or mole , was the president of russia back in the 80s , they used to make fun of him and say a bird poop on his head 😅
26:34 lol. You're right. The proper lyrics are "...and the home of the BRAVE." The gag is that Frank Drebin botched even the end of the national anthem.
You guys are cute together. I would say this movie is slap-stick and crime-spoof type because there is a lot of physical humour and they poke fun at crime movies.
You need a lot of bear traps in Los Angeles. It’s in California. They’re everywhere. Haven’t you seen the state flag of California? Even that has a bear on it.
18:55 not sure if this is still the case in some places, but you could get pistachios that were dyed red (for some reason), and the rec dye would rub off on your fingers and in Frank's case his mouth.
In the car they are eating pistachio nuts. Back in the day when they were almost exclusively imported from the middle east and they traditionally dyed them red. You really don't see them anymore because we grow them in the states now.
Hilarious still - based on the short-lived TV sitcom POLICE SQUAD! starring Nielsen & created by ZAZ (the Zucker Bros. & Jim Abrahams - who recently passed away :( ). Priscilla Presley is the series' unsung heroine who gives just as good with the goofiness yet remaining stunningly sexy. FYI: Liam Neeson just filmed a new reboot starring as Drebin (!). Make sure to see the rest too - so much nutty fun.
This is nis a parody or a spoof movie an extreme comedy (They dont make allot of them today if any unfortunately) . I hope you do reaction to the two sequels. I hope you also do a reaction to the spoof Top Secret 1984 it is from the same directors but little less known. Fun fact the Zackers brothers (the directors) real life mom is the secretary of the bad guy (Which is by the way Kahn from Star trek 2) in the movie of the bad guy she appears I think in all the sequels in different roles. Fyi The Shakespeare in the park bit is a spoof on dirty harry movie line.
Frank would be considered "deadpan" - He does goofy stuff without a normal reaction to what he does.... most of the time. There was a TV show "Police Squad" that this is based on, and that was a spoof of "The M Squad" staring Lee Marvin.
In Finland we call these sorts of movies (Lesnie Nielsen films, Hot Shots movies, etc) "crazy comedies" since they have a distinct flare of absurd humor and over the top jokes.
The types of comedy in this are Slapstick and Parody. Slapstick is like physical gags and obvious wordplay, everybody can understand it. Parody is where they make fun of another type of movie; in this case cop movies. Different from satire because they're not trying to be intellectual or examine anything, just make silly jokes.
yeah, natural funny things are funny.. one thing that kills comedy for me, is when someone is 'trying to hard to be funny', which really means that they arent funny at all, and are just looking like someone that doesnt know how to properly do comedy.. or someone that is dumb, or untalented, and just going through overly pronounced attempts at being funny, based on what their idea of being funny is.. which is usually mimicking someone else that theyve seen, that doesnt know how to be funny.. talented people that know how to actually be funny, always do it in a very naturally funny way, and they make people like me laugh, rather than cringe and say, this chump thinks hes funny.. of course generally speaking, movies like the naked gun are funny, at least compared to other popular comedies, but really its not perfectly done comedy.. its on the verge of trying to be funny.. but, its done well enough, and set up well enough to be one of the funnier movies.. because most well known movies arent very good, and most funny people arent very funny at all.. luckily for them though, the standard is set real low.. you know, its just as easily understanding what a good actor is.. its someone thats not acting like theyre acting, and can still be impressive acting.. someone that can make you feel things, and enjoy watching in their roles.. someone that knows how to make a role work, regardless of much else going on.. someone that can take a bad script and setting, and turn it into something good on film.. or videa, now days.. which isnt as good either.. of course a really really good actor would just throw the script in the trash, and do something better anyway.. and thats why its hard to see really good actors in big movies, because you have to usually go along with untalented movie people to be in big movies.. so marian probably understands since it sounded like he was possibly referring to smaller, more independent movies, when he brought up french movies.. but maybe not.. point is, i used to see quite a few independent, smaller budget movies in the past, often foreign films, and many of them were very high quality, with good actors.. talented movies for talented minds that can appreciate quality movies.. natural comedy.. you can either get it from 'innocent' mishaps of people not meaning to be funny but are, or people meaning to be funny but can.. but you cant get it from crumby people that are trying real hard to be funny.. unless youre crumby too, and dont know or care the difference.. and those kinds of people are.. very high in numbers, and very very vocal about their bad tastes

18:57 Pistachio nuts. Around the time of filming, pistachios in USA were imported and dyed red to mask stains from the harvest. More advanced harvesting methods were developed and dyeing the pistachios are now obsolete.
And so tasty that it is hard to stop eating them, hence the huge pile of shells after the long stakeout.
@@mikejankowski6321 I'd eat that many pistachios in an hour, they're addictive 🤤
"Justice for Nordberg!"
Well...uh...the thing is...

This was a joyous experience, you guys are the perfect fish out of water audience. The convenience store next to my house had a movie rental section and I watched this movie so much that they just let me have it.
“Justice for Nordberg, please!” Lol the irony 😂 😳
No Justice in real life too. 😆If the glove doesn't fit...
Always love a movie that totally abandons reality and has a joke or two every frigging minute Lesley Nielsen is one comic actor I truly miss ⚛❤
Such a hilarious movie. Glad you two watched it. For part 2 & 3 be sure to also watch the end credits as they have some funny joked in it.
I can't believe you guys didn't react to the funniest line in the movie - "Everywhere I look, something reminds me of her"
Why is there a bear trap? It goes with the wedding cake.

The movie style is slapstick comedy, and Frank Drebin's "serious" style is called deadpan humor.

Slapstick is the form of comedy as Naked Gun. Its 90% of American Comedy.
The baseball player assassin was MLB player Reggie Jackson, a.k.a " Mr. October " a MLB legend.
You guys would enjoy the TV Show this movie was based on. "Police Squad" it's only 6 episodes, some jokes repeat, but the humor is there.
Shelled pistachios used to be dyed red.
