Lloyd Bridges and Leslie Nielsen had two careers each. They both started out as serious actors and finished up as absolutely hilarious comedic actors. God bless them and may they rest easy knowing how much laughter they have left behind as their legacy.

@@TheMrPeteChannel I think from comedy standpoint he was primarily a supporting actor. He was in the first airplane he was in Hot shots and a few others that revived his career to a degree.

Lloyd Bridges doesn't get enough credit for his comedic chops. He is brilliant in these comedies.
His final movie was MAFIA! Another funny one
The dentist gag is a spoof of a terrifying scene from the thriller Marathon Man starring Dustin Hoffman. You gotta watch Hot Shots Part Deux. Lloyd Bridges is just as good. He gets upgraded to the President.

Lloyd Bridges (and Leslie Nielson) were both great dramatic actors. this is why they can pull this off.
Plus, he was in the 1980 movie Airplane, which started these kinda of spoof movies.

The way he delivers the line about his pants is absolute perfection. Only Leslie Nielsen is a contender for best dead pan delivery.

Also, "Is it safe" is a reference to a 1976 movie called Marathon Man in which a character played by Dustin Hoffman is tortured by a dentist.

I’ve pulled a “drinks on me” in a bar before. The bar had a gambling machine ( blackjack/slots) and I hit the jackpot so I bought the bar a round. Then I hit a second jackpot on a different game. It’s the craziest day I ever had to this day and honestly I don’t think I’ll ever top it.

Me and my little brother walked into the theater for a matinee to see this. It was us and one little old lady. She left after two minutes and we cried laughing for the rest of the movie. LOVE this movie!
If you haven't seen them, Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer are a pair of classic 80's comedies with John Cusack and Curtis Armstrong.
Admiral Benson is hilarious.:) he stole the show.
What some people do not realize is that mailman in the first movie is played by Ryan stiles because you don't see his face most people don't put two-and-two together but he is in the second movie as well

... i saw it second time when o was 20.. and i was thinking. Dam, they didnt have to change much for hot shots, this is cringi as hell.

Lloyd Bridges was a treasure. Absolutely brilliant choice for the part.
When you guys do the John Cusack sequence...I highly recommend Grosse Point Blank. Cusack, Driver and Ackroyd. One of the best soundtracks ever. (i went to high school with the Cusack kids).
And Joan Cusack played off her brother really well.
