The Witcher 3 is one of my favourite games. I plated it on PS4 and thought it was only ok. I played it on switch and loved it way more and did pretty much everything, all side quests and DLC. Love it so much.

Some of my personal favourites: Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Final Fantasy IX, EarthBound, Half-Life 2, Inside, Undertale, The Last of Us 2, Okami, Banjo-Kazooie, Metroid Prime, Outer Wilds, Resident Evil 4 and Elden Ring.

My top 10 starting from 1
    1. Dark souls
    2. Borderlands 2
    3. Final Fantasy 7
    4. Bioshock
    5. Halo
    6. Doom
    7: DMC 5
    8: Crash Tag Team Racing
    9: Street Fighter 2
    10: Resident evil
The top two I can honestly play forever without getting bored, bought them multiple times and been playing them for years. Others I put the first game since I love the series as a whole. If I’m cheating then Dark souls 3 would be up there with the first Dark souls.

    • @orbalology

A very cool list! One of these days I'll need to try out one of the Dark Souls games. While they look intimidating I can see how they can be super satisfying once you start to get a hand of things :)

I currently replay "Breath of the Wild" after a few years when I played it first. Also the SNES Zelda game is one of the best of all times, which I played when it was released on SNES in the 90s. There are other great games for me, in my mind comes: The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 5, Death Stranding, Axiom Verge, Demon's Souls Remake and Elden Ring. Very nice channel by the way.

  • @MoonsideResident
    @MoonsideResident ปีที่แล้ว +1

Excellent list! Quite a few would be in my top 10 as well. God, the backlog of games I have would probably take several long life-times to get through. It's a shame because you pretty much have no choice but to pick some and pass on others ;_; That's compounded even more when you enjoy mmorpgs too.
Speaking of which, I'm not sure you ever mentioned it (as I'm new to the channel) but do you ever play any online games? There are some pretty good story-driven mmos out there (like FFXI or XIV, Dragon Quest X, Mabinogi, etc). Definitely beats the typical grindfest WoW clones.

I've really been enjoying your videos recently, Emily, and found your channel after Femtrooper shared a recent video! Loved seeing your Top 10 of all time, and was especially happy to see Jak & Daxter represented. I feel like it's a series often overshadowed by Ratchet & Clank, but J&D was one of my first PS2 games. Exploring Sentinel Beach, the goofy writing, and all of the different collectibles made for an excellent 3D platformer. Great list overall and I'm looking forward to tuning in to your other videos. Keep up the great work!

Very interesting list, I honestly don't know if I would be able to make a top 10 myself! It would definitely include FE Path of Radiance and Etrian Odyssey 3 though.
By the way, I've always been curious about the Trails series, but there are so many entries that I am a bit reluctant to get into it, any suggestions on where to start?
Also, I got FE Echoes a while ago, but still haven't gotten around to play it, I need to get through my backlog...

    • @orbalology
      @orbalology  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

For Trails I think the best overall experience is to start from the beginning (Trails in the Sky FC) and go through them chronologically. But that can be difficult if you don't have access or want to jump around the different hardware the games are scattered across. The new one coming out this month Trails from Zero I think will also be a great place to start to test the series out and that's on the Switch/PS4/Steam.
Or if you want to try the more recent entries with HD graphics starting with Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2 is fine as well. I just highly recommend that you don't play Cold Steel 3 or 4 until you get through the earlier games. Those games have a lot of returning characters and the slow burn build up is super rewarding once you see things start to connect & build on top of one another.

great list! the zelda games are cool, it would be great if nintendo can bring a link to the past to the switch!
here are m,y top 10, the games and order gets muddled anytime I think about this lol
    10) Final Fantasy 7 (PS1) - my dad and I played through this many times together. I loved the music (esp the battle music) and this did the summons the best out of the series for me. The feeling of power at the late game is unparrallelled!, then there is the chocobo racing and breeding. I could go on and on, this probably should be higher on the list tbh but who cares lol
    9) Diablo 2 (mac lc2) - this was the first game I ever got addicted to. The setting, the sound. the thud of beating on dozens of monsters, the loots. The resurrected release re-affirmed why I love this more than any other arpg out there. just brilliant!
    8) Doom reboot (xbox series x) - where do I start here? Fast pased, rocking soundtrack, great level design, great visuals. This is that game where I stick my lips out when firing big guns. Best shotgun in all of gaming! Period! Exclamation point!
    7) Ratcher and Clank Up Your Arsenal (PS2) - I love this series, I love these characters, I love these mechanics, I love these visuals, I love the weapons, I love the humour. But my feeling for this game ggoes beyond the sum of its parts. There is a soul to this series that I feel is best captured in this instalment. Damn I want to play this again!
    6) Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox One) - While this is not the best game from a technical standpoint, and didnt nourish my soul when the series came to my country in the third instalment, I feel like this is my faviourite game in the series. It was such a step up from the original, this game satisfied my inner most fantasies of driving exotic cars in an open world. I did everything I could do in this game, and I loved every minute, and this I cannot say for the other entries which is why it is on my all time list. The location being based on the border of Italy and Spain was absolutely magical.
    5) Resident Evil 2 Remake (Xbox series x) - I was a little late to the party for as it came out a generation prior, but I got it for a very cheap price. This game is worth the full recommended retail price, maybe even more tbh. Best Resi game in the series for me, I really enjoyed the innovation of the story being played in 2 perspectives. I havent seen this done in a game before and it is genius! So, I plat as Leon, play my way through the main game, then play as Claire who is in a different area of the game that parrallels the sequences of Leons actions where at junctions they even meet. Then you get to play the main story as Claire then play as Leon iin a similar way. Even just explaining this is making my head hurt! I love it!
    4) NBA 2K16 (PS4) - For the love of the game I hold dear. Basketball. NBA basketball. The fantasy of being about to play the game with your favcouriote players, you can create custom rosters, you can create a player. The graphics, gameplay and animations have aged well. This game is my #1 sports game EVER.
    3) Uncharted series (PS4) - I love all 5 games equally. Yes, the latter games, UC4 and UC the lost legacy are technically the best in the series, every one of these games scratches the itch I have for adventure andf action. I love the characters oh so much! Nolan North is the first voice actor I know by name (outside of Mark Hamil ofc), I play this series annually in sedquential order as a manathon run. Speaking of, time to mark my 2023 playthrough!
    2) Grand Theft Auto V (XBOX 360/PS4) - yup, I'm that guy! The guy who will kneel to one knee and place my hand on my heart and declare this toi be my second favourite game of all time. I really want to talk about the characters, the setting, the story, the scale, the detail, the gameplay and Trevor. But lets just talk about Trevor. Trevor is a broken human being who has lost all sense of right and wrong. A character I despise and adore. Like an onion, you will peel away his horrible actions and generally digusting appearance and you will see a man who is actually a nice person who can no longer be that way anymore. His life experiences and moulded him in the pshychotic ruthless person he is. Oh I love driving and flying in this game too
    1) The Last of US series (PS4/PS5) - ...and here it is. The crowning jewel that sita aopt of the head of the others. The genuine feelings I experience over and over after multiple playthroughs never wither. Its a topsy turvy experience that grips me from beghinning to end. I will recognise that people do not like the seconf instalment, but I think it was a masterclass of story telling, It is fascinating how perspective can change how you feel about an event, or a character, and this game plays on that heavily in UC2. These games kept me thinking about it well after I played it.
    So many games I left off makes my heart hurt so I will list a few honourable mentions;
    Ghosty of Tsushima
    Mario Odysset
    Rise of the Tomb Raider
    Witcher 3
    Titanfall 2
    Injustice 2
    Ori series
    Dragon Age Origins
    Mass Effect trilogy
    Red Dead Redemption series
    Portal 2
    Halo 3
    Half Life 2
    Bioshock series
    Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1&2
    Horizon Zero Dawn
The next game I want to play is Persona 4 Golden on PSV so I can finally play Persona 5 on Switch.

I've never heard of these trials games. 100% going to check them out as the gameplay looks 🔥 - great list! Great to see a decent mix between western and eastern for sure. The Trails games are sort of like a long standing epic! I highly recommend them if you're into slow burn JRPGs. The combat also offers a cool take on the classic turn base system where positioning and turn order play more of a major role. I would also argue that FE and Trails share similar mechanics in their party configuration & knowing the different weakness/advantages each class offers :)

Fire Emblem Echoes. Good choice. I love the game so much, especially for the story and the dungeons. I absolutely felt the same way a few years ago. Though, it actually was the hardest Fire Emblem game for me to finish. Not because it was too hard, but because the overworld battles and all of the spread out maps that really just amounted to big squares with maybe some terrain effects just slowed the game down to a crawl for me since I liked exploring every corner of the map and dungeons. A phenomenal game with sadly some of the worst map design with far too many that are huge and have terrain that slow down your movement to just 1 or 2 spaces.
Still my favorite Fire Emblem story and character interactions though. So I totally stand by the choice. I just wish they had taken a little more time to rebalance the maps, cause horseback and flying units moving over twice as far as some other units and such big maps really just made it hard for me to see the game through to the end after I got into the later stages and all of my non-riding units felt too slow to get into the action when I needed them. I switched to casual to finish so I could just lazily grind through the bad maps without worrying about losing units to them to get to the main battles of each chapter

    • @orbalology
      @orbalology  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I see what you mean about the imbalanced landscapes, I also remember there were quite a few maps that required a lot of turns to move some characters over to the action 😅 But glad to hear that Echoes' story & characters resonated with you as well!

As far as my favorite games of all time... that would be really tough to decide, and might differ depending on what day you asked me. Zelda is one of my favorite series, and Wind Waker and Majora's Mask are probably my favorite Zelda games, so I guess they'd have to be on an "of all time" list. Final Fantasy X is also a really big one for me. Portal 2 is basically a perfect video game, imo, so I'd probably put that on there. Some others off the top of my head that I could potentially choose are Shadow of the Colossus (PS4 remake), Super Metroid, the Kingdom Hearts series as a whole, Super Mario 64, Resident Evil (Gamecube remake), Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, Skyrim, the Mass Effect Series... honestly I could just keep going and going lol.

I too have to cheat on my top 6, 12, or whatever lists (I like to go by multiples of three because 3 is compatible with the universe and also that way I get away with adding more to my list 😆).
I combine Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask into one game (MM is pretty just a big expansion of Ocarina anyways, I mean if they both came out on the PC then they’d just be one game).
I like that Jak and Daxter series is in your top 10 list because I too have fond memories of it.
Xenosaga Episode I is my favorite game ever and I highly recommend it, especially since you like Xenoblade Chronicles so much. Xenogears is the first Xeno game and is also very good (deserves a remake).
Other PS2 gems are Dark Cloud 1 and 2 if you haven’t played em.

Top 10 games of all time can be hard to determine. I mean, nostalgia can blind us towards old games and some games are so perfect the first time you play them, but can never give that same effect the second time or even once their twist is spoiled, like Doki Doki Literature Club, so that makes those types of games hard to rank. If I had to throw out a few:
    Xenoblade X
    Atelier Rorona DX
    Metroid Fusion
    Azure Striker Gunvolt
    Ocarina of Time 3D
    Twilight Princess (Gamecube)
    Tokyo Mirage Sessions
    Devil Survivor Overclocked
    Diddy Kong Racing
Megaman Battle Network 5 (like both versions equally)
    Pokemon Platinum
NFL Street 2 (one of these things is not like the others, lol. This gets bonus credit for introducing me to Sum 41 and an overall killer soundtrack and also wall running fun).
Not sure if this is a definitive list, but it's what came to mind first when thinking of favorite games of all time. With more thought, I'd probably add some PS2 classics like Naruto Ultimate Ninja 2/3, DBZ Budokai 3, Star Wars Battlefront 2, etc. I need time to compare all my old favorites to give a fair list

    • @orbalology
      @orbalology  2 ปีที่แล้ว

A nice varied list! I really enjoyed Tokyo Mirage Sessions & SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked as well. I've also been meaning to go back and play some of the earlier Atelier games. I think I may have made a mistake in skipping to Ryza midway through the Dusk Trilogy - I've been a bit hesitant to go back to the games with the time limit management system 😅

    • @Chronoflation
      @Chronoflation 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@orbalology Hahahaha, Rorona is a great starting place cause it gives you more than enough time for most missions. Usually you only need 1/3 of the time to complete the missions in it. It was my first game and I have no regrets. It's one of the only games I've played since I was a kid where I beat it and immediately went back for a second playthrough. Such a fun experience. If you're nervous about the time limit, I think it's a great version to get back into time limited Aterlier games again, especially since time only moves forward when you move locations in it. I want to play the Dusk series next myself.

I own every one of those games! great picks! I've always liked ocarina of time more than breath of the wild but im almost positive its because of nostalgia. I legitimately thought nothing would beat ocarina as my number 1 until I played final fantasy 14 which is basically a single player game with parts that make you play with others. I avoided it like the plague bc I dont like mmos but it really didn't feel like an mmo.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Zelda ALBW so high on the list, it's underrated and one of the best Zelda games imo ! I should replay it sometime.
Hades is such a sick game, it's impossible to get bored with it. Just masterful.

ALBW is really a great game! I think why it made it so high up on my list was because of how much I adored A Link to the Past and ALBW was actually the entry that got me back into gaming after taking a bit of a break during school. So they both hold a very special place for me :)

Everyone has their own preference and the genres they like. It is great that Orbalology has a variety of tastes and sounds open minded towards other games (example Hades), as when we are close minded we miss out on a lot. We also miss out on a lot of stuff due to backlog and lack of time.
Disclaimer: This is my personal list at time of posting and as with a lot of people changes after playing games and trying new things and finds enjoyment in other series and genres.
    1) Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn
    2) Fire Emblem Path of Radiance
    3) Donkey Kong Country 2
    4) Persona 4
    5) Valkyria Chronicles 1/4 (preference to 4 after completing) Despite starting with number 1 first
    6) Steamworld Dig a Fistful of Dirt
    7) Tales of Xilla
    8) Prince of Persia Warrior Within
    9) Luigi's Mansion
    10) Immortals Fenyx Rising
    Honourable Mentions:
    The Last Story
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
    Xenoblade Chronicles Wii/Nintendo Switch Version
    Pokemon Gold
    Raging Loop (Visual Novel)
    Mario Kart 7/64

Great video and a great top ten list! Personally, I have no problem with two games from the same series being included as long as the gameplay is significantly different. So while both Link to the Past and Breath of the Wild are both from the same series, the way that the story and game are laid out creates two very unique games. I’ll have to think about my own top ten…

@@orbalology Honestly, I tend to agonize a bit over making lists like this, but it's still fun regardless. Here is my list (with original platform) with the caveat that a week from now it could be quite a bit different! It's pretty skewed towards older games and platforms...
      10. Suikoden II (PS1)
      9. Dragon Quest Monsters 2 (GBC)
      8. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
      7. Dragon Quest IV (NES)
      6. Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS)
      5. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel (I) (PS3)
      4. Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)
      3. Shin Megami Tensei Persona 4 (PS2)
      2. Chrono Trigger (SNES)
      1. Final Fantasy VI (III in North America (SNES)

I list this out all the time, and "top 10" games is always closer to 25 or 30. For the longest time I'd have said Super Mario Bros 3 is the best game of all time, but it keeps slipping further down the top of my list. I struggled with adding pretty new games to my list for a long time, but without a doubt Breath of the Wild is the best game I have ever played. I know I'm not alone in this, but it was a pretty wonderful experience that made me feel like a kid playing a game again. I initially played it on the Wii U, but even revisiting it on the Switch a year or so later it was pretty clear there is something truly magical about that game.
I think it I had to cut it down to a purely top 10 it'd be BotW, Okami, Resident Evil 4, We

    Love your top ten.
After hearing about the trails games I'd be interested in them. The only problem is how the games stories are connected. I'd have to buy them all lol.
I don't know if it is a good idea, but maybe a top 10 for favorite characters.
I couldn't do it myself. Most of them would be Persona characters not gonna lie.

    • @orbalology
      @orbalology  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Trails games are quite the commitment! You can try one of the story arcs to see how it goes before committing to the entire series (i.e. Trails in the Sky has 3 games, Crossbell has 2, and Cold Steel has 4). For the most part each arc is self contained, with the exception of Cold Steel which starts to tie into the previous two arcs in the 3rd game. With the Crossbell duology finally being localized in the West (w/ Trails from Zero coming out this September) that may be a good one to test the waters out with :)
And gosh top 10 characters would be really difficult! I would have to think long and hard for that one 😅

For me it's probably not the best list but the games that had the most impact when I played them. These are games I played and finished, in nor particular order:
Xenoblade Chronicles - Oh boy this game, I've always heard it was one of the best JRGS out there and when I saw that the DE was coming to the switch I got in on release day. When the opening screen came up with the Monado in the middle of those grass plains and the first accords of the music started I just stopped and my jaw dropped. There are a few games that I've played in my life where something happens and I gasp This was once of them.
Chrono Trigger - A classic that I played waaaaaa later than it's release, again the music the design, the game is just so engaging a true gem among gems. This one also has one of those OMG moments where I just stopped to try and process what just happened.
Portal - I've heard that Portal 2 is even better but I haven't played that one. This game is fantastic with an amazing physic engine and an ending that truly had me laughing. The dark humour in this game is par to none
Fifa 98 France World cup - This was the first game I saw where the graphics blew me away. The intro scene with Blur Song 2 playing in the background, I've rewached that intro hundreds of times. I begged my dad to get a computer powerful enough to play it, I got it for my birthday with the game included, one of my most cherished childhood memories. (I miss you dad)
Super Mario World - Christmas morning at grandpa's, me and my brother run down the stairs to see what we been asking for for months a SNES OMG! I must have played this games dozens of times with all possible alternative routes
007 Golden Eye - I think I never actually finished the game but I played the PvsP mode to death (proximity mines anyone?)
FF VII - Another game where in intro scene just blew me away, I loved that it was different to other RPGS that I played at the time it felt so Cyberpunk and ofc probably one of the most spoiled scenes in any game. At that time I was lucky enough not to be spoiled and when it happens I was truly left in shocked and actually mourned it took me a long time to finally accept she was gone.
Starcraft Broodwar - I was obsessed with this game to the point I actually still watch the Korean Proleague. But besides the competitive side of it the story is amazing with a dark ending that left me super satisfied, I truly didn't know what would happen after that and was left with an impending doom feeling for humanity.
Street Fighter 2 Turbo - When I was a kid I used to go to my local arcades to try to beat the other kids (spoiler I didn't) so when this game made it to the SNES I was super excited to have it at home. Played it like crazy with my older brother and the day I finally was able to beat him was one of the proudest moments of my young life.
Links Awakening - I had this game on the GB and the cutscenes were something I've never seen on the GB I loved this game so much that I got the remake on the switch
Well that's it sorry for the wall of text but just putting a list of games would'nt made them justice.
Thanks for the nice video and I'll have to check out some of the title you mentioned!

@@orbalology my favorite console Zelda game is Majora's mask with wind waker a very close second. I was the kid who had to get all the Zelda games on launch and wanted to find out everything before it got spoiled by my friends because they were like that. My favorite handheld Zelda is links awakening for Gameboy, spent way too much time playing that when I was younger and was the first Zelda game I ever completed. Minish cap is second and the oracles are a close third. ALTTP is my favorite top down style Zelda for console and I never cared for Zelda 2 for NES but can see how some would like it. Twilight princess is good too and I did complete it on GameCube back in the day but it was more of a chore to get thru than the others I feel. They're all amazing games and it's crazy how they're all similar but at the same time so vastly different. Link between worlds was good too and reminds me a lot of minish cap with some ALTTP mixed in there as well but I feel playing it later on in my life made it less significant than the nostalgia I get from the older ones. That may change if I ever get the urge to play thru it again.
