He's right. I spent 4 years in a federal prison. I got hooked on the OC while I was incarcerated and continued watching even after I was released. A lot of guys loved this show for some reason.
Because many of them felt like Ryan and they can only dream to end up like him, a ghetto kid who is adopted by a rich family and has a lot of new opportunities in his life...
lol the prisoners story is so hilarious! it's so funny to imagine badass prisoners sitting on jail and waiting to the oc episode and singing Californiaaa and obsessing over the show 😂😂
+Harrison Simpson I watched it when it was first on, I think I saw all of the first season. I never saw the rest of the series, but I think I may have seen part of season two, maybe a little of season three. The last episode I remember seeing, Cohen had gotten a publishing deal for Atomic County or something, and I'm pretty sure I hadn't seen several of the episodes prior to that.
I really like his acting. He was great as Ryan in The OC and he's good asJim Gordon even tough Gotham isn't that much of a show. They should cast him in more movies. He's really likeable. In fact, both him and Adam Brody should get more attention.
I love his transition to Southland, I didn't care for him in the OC but Southland is one the best shows on right now for feeling like a raw look at the LA police scene. Up there with The Wire and The Shield.
This guy’s impression is 10/10. The reason why because the Ryan Character was a thug with a tough upbringing who got a ticket to a wealthy lifestyle. Prisoners could relate
I was in a prison of my room after dropping out of engineering school and not knowing what i wanted to do....that whole year i too watched the OC. What can I say...i guess I'm a tough convict..like my fellow inmates online.
It seriously is. I'm so glad I randomly watched it one night. It's so different from all the other BS police dramas out there. It just shows day to day in the life of cops. Just incredible is all I can say.
He's great as a young jim gordon...l approve...even though for me l have seen commssioner gordon played by silent screen star neil Hamilton...and sexy pat hingle...both now deceased.
DOOM Marine aka Doomguy O_o can't see why am I the first one to call dibs on this guy to play in a (let's face it, there should be proper remake of) Doom movie? I mean, come on, his grunty voice is almost identical to every EERGGHHH! we've been hearing from the Doomguy! cut and mess his hair a bit, make a straight camera shot - boom! I mean, DOOM! I've seen him in Gotham only, he's been doin' textbook rippin' n' tearin'!
When was this interview? I always remember Ben being.. I don't know.. more awkward? I hear he's progressed a lot as an actor (only seen him in the oc), guess he has as a person as well.. Maybe that goes hand in hand
I think it was last year sometime because I remember seeing it come on TV, and I remember being in my second year of graduate school when I saw it, so it must have been last year. lol. I never found Ben McKenzie awkward, tbh, and I always thought his acting was good, but it has improved a lot.
sportsmed77 Yeah I guess now when I think about it he's not that awkward, just comes across (use to come across) as very very introverted... even in interviews
He's right. I spent 4 years in a federal prison. I got hooked on the OC while I was incarcerated and continued watching even after I was released. A lot of guys loved this show for some reason.
I kid from chino got saved that's the reason
Doesn't that bring up bad memories of picking up soap?
Because many of them felt like Ryan and they can only dream to end up like him, a ghetto kid who is adopted by a rich family and has a lot of new opportunities in his life...
Che grande CAGATA è stata questa serie!!
Cool story.
"Calefornyaaaaaa"

He may be Gordon now, but he'll always be Ryan to me.
Forever Ryan Atwood

+Harrison Simpson I watched it when it was first on, I think I saw all of the first season. I never saw the rest of the series, but I think I may have seen part of season two, maybe a little of season three. The last episode I remember seeing, Cohen had gotten a publishing deal for Atomic County or something, and I'm pretty sure I hadn't seen several of the episodes prior to that.
His smile makes me swoon every time.
aw i like it when he smiles :)
I really like his acting. He was great as Ryan in The OC and he's good asJim Gordon even tough Gotham isn't that much of a show. They should cast him in more movies. He's really likeable. In fact, both him and Adam Brody should get more attention.
Totally agree
So true got that something about both his acting character and off screen character that makes him such a good man
He was just cast in the lead role as Jim Gordon in the upcoming Batman series, "Gotham".
salsburysteakjr Liar
No?!??!!!!!!
Mr Zentei You literally said that six months ago... the show's been out for years
4 years ago is not 6 months ago haha.. and it happens to be probably his best role yet although I loved Southland, just to short each season
Gotham needs a new season
It's 2023 and the OC is still one of my favorite shows. He will always be Ryan for me. ♥
lmao that story about the guy in prison was awesome!
I wonder what it sounds like hearing a bunch of convicts sobbing about the love thing on that show?
Man I used to wait for that show and then get all excited when I heard that 'Californiaaaaa'. I'm like it's ON!
I didn't think he'd be this charismatic.
2:33 when Ben smiles at the audience ☺️
he does a good Hispanic accent and im mexican
Southland never should have ended.
Ben is cute and his smile is lovely.
They need to bring South Land back. Best cop show that was ever on TV.
They need to bring back The OC & continue it.

Atomsk ThePirateKing I have and I stand by South Land. Way better then those.

I love his transition to Southland, I didn't care for him in the OC but Southland is one the best shows on right now for feeling like a raw look at the LA police scene. Up there with The Wire and The Shield.
the way he says "fascinate" is adorable... like he puts so much emphasis on it
The look at 2:32 is so cute!!!
I love Ben's smile 😍😄
Ben mckenzie is a funny guy. Ive watched all his interviews but that last joke was gold.
they have great chemistry
This guy’s impression is 10/10. The reason why because the Ryan Character was a thug with a tough upbringing who got a ticket to a wealthy lifestyle. Prisoners could relate
He is awesome as Gordon! He seems like a cool guy, too.
I was in a prison of my room after dropping out of engineering school and not knowing what i wanted to do....that whole year i too watched the OC. What can I say...i guess I'm a tough convict..like my fellow inmates online.
He's perfect in so many ways!! :)

Gotham!
It seriously is. I'm so glad I randomly watched it one night. It's so different from all the other BS police dramas out there. It just shows day to day in the life of cops.
Just incredible is all I can say.

can't see why am I the first one to call dibs on this guy to play in a (let's face it, there should be proper remake of) Doom movie?
I mean, come on, his grunty voice is almost identical to every EERGGHHH! we've been hearing from the Doomguy!

Turn your phone sideways 3 is a heat....
He will have played James Gordon longest than any other character in his career when Season 5 ends.
Sergio Garcia also season 5 is the last of them it sad
Oh Conan haha

When was this interview? I always remember Ben being.. I don't know.. more awkward? I hear he's progressed a lot as an actor (only seen him in the oc), guess he has as a person as well.. Maybe that goes hand in hand

sportsmed77 Yeah I guess now when I think about it he's not that awkward, just comes across (use to come across) as very very introverted... even in interviews
only his voice in Batman: Year One
Ryan Atwood
Southland is the most under rated show on TV.
true story!
And then he plays a cop in Gotham. Well done. Fanbase distroyed.
Commissioner James Gordon has married Deadpool's girlfriend
Just would like to remind everyone: This man once played Batman.
His mexican accent is good
Ben looks like a little kid on an adult chair lol.

I came here to see if he was really a stick in the mud like he is on Gotham. Not the same. Good to know.
Ben McKenzie is a better looking version of Ringo Starr😅
