  • When you have pain on the top of your foot it is often an arthritic bone spur. You can always have it surgically removed but in this video I talk about what it is and give a few tips about how to treat it conservatively before going under the knife.

Thank you so much! I've had this issue for 30 years and could never find a good resolution. Moving the laces from the center has been the best thing I've ever done. Now I notice the huge bump pushing up the huge toung. Something so simple like this can change your life.

@@silverstone9952 I’m experiencing top of foot pain in this area. I don’t recall my report of findings from either MRI or X-rays mentioning a bone spur. However, that does not necessarily rule out the beginning of a bone spur forming that is not yet detectable. At least in my opinion. Time and further films will only tell. I do understand that there’s arthritis in this area, which demands consistent movement/rehab or it literally feels like it’s locking up. And it will, if not tended to. At least I understand and know I cannot neglect it, or I’ll suffer the consequences. I also know how to support my joints with nutritional therapy for this disease, which makes a considerable difference!

Does a bone spur cause extreme foot pain and swelling? I just had an x-ray that said I have a bone spur on the top of my foot. When I get up from sitting and begin to walk, the pain is awful. I only had open shoes, so it is not from a tight shoe. Thanks. Your video is very informative.

This is the best information yet I have found. I too have the exact same problems except I have developed a new symptom with bruising underneath the same foot. After doing some research I found out that I have a stone bruise. I noticed this last year for the very first time and then it happened again just recently. I bought a ball of foot spenco pad and it has helped a lot. My question is should I keep wearing this extra pad along with my walk hero insoles now. My problems are all contained on my right foot where I also have a rotated hip which rotates back and down on the same side. Thank you for your help.

So pleased I came across your video. I too have had pain in the top of my feet, especially my right foot. 11 years ago I saw a Podiatrist and was suggested to wear Brooks Beasts (mens since they have more foot room) with an orthotics and this has worked good until this past year. I had a knee replacement 12 years ago. I had a desk job and could tell when I had to walk that the top of my foot was hurting. When I'd get home from work I would take off my shoes and within 10 minutes they would feel better walking around barefoot. I got lower profile orthotics and it did not help. When I saw your video and changed the shoe laces so that top of the foot did not have the laces crossed it was instant relief! I recently retired early September and now help watch my grandchilden who keep me moving! The foot pain got WORSE and then I found your video! Feeling so much better now. Will have to follow up on stretching and exercises.

I've been tending to my "top of the foot pain" with stretchable sneakers, stretching my calf muscles, and more recently the discovery heel lifts, and an occasional lidocaine patch really did the trick for me from walking like Tim Conway's Old Man with a pain scale 6 to an absolute 0. I also wear no shoes in the house. The pain starts as soon as I get on my feet, then eventually will dissipate, as I walk around.
Not to say it has gone completely away, but I'm a lot happier.

I’m not sure if you’re still actively responding to comments here, but I thought I’d explain my situation
About a month ago I started a job where I work 8 hours a day, 3 consecutive days a week walking around on my feet. Prior to this I didn’t exercise frequently. Immediately after started the job I started experiencing foot and leg pain which is to be expected because I am not used to it. Btw I have been wearing an old pair of running shoes to work since they are the best ones I have to wear for this.
The pain doesn’t really go away on my days off. It decreases until it’s more tolerable though. Recently it has been a bit better but I’ve started to become concerned about my right foot. My left foot is usually fine for the most part, but my right foot has a lot of pain. It isn’t a muscle pain though. The pain is in the upper top part of my foot. I believe it’s where the cuneiform bone is? I only have a very slight bump right there though, it is not like the lady in the video, though it is in the same area. After work that foot tends to hurt a lot more than my left, and the pain extends down into the base of my big toe. If I move my big toe the wrong way I can feel the pain going up my foot. This is more of an aching pain. Today(my second day off work), I noticed that my foot feels fine, but if I apply pressure to the bone part at the top of my foot then it causes a sharp pain.
I’m just concerned because I find it weird that it’s only my right foot that hurts like this. If I try running or anything that’s a little straining to the foot then the pain starts up again only in my right foot. I don’t know if it’s something that just comes with the job and will go away with time or if it could be something like a stress injury? I’ve also considered if one leg might be slightly longer than the other as well causing me to put more pressure onto my right foot? That is something my grandmother has mentioned having issues with, but I do not know many details about.

thank you for helping us. I have really bad ankles and after 30 plus years I'm now 80% wheel chair, that's if I want to move around. I have several questions to which I hope can reverse some of the damage but this is the worst pain I'm curious about. The throbbing pain is when I sit down. In other words, when the pressure is released on my feet, or Pick up my foot. It seems to be in my Achilles. it started about 10 years ago. I do not have pain in my legs from this,. I've tried many shoes for my foot pain and my doctor prescribed to have shoes made for both feet, but they want to made a CAST like shoes which I can not walk with. Yes, I have had one ankle broken and a couple of sprains in the other. i wish my doctor would have taken the time many years ago to explain what was going and how I could have prevented further damage. Maybe he didn't know? I think this has caused the problems in my back as well but it is what it is and now I pray you may be able to help .
    Thank you so much.

I started to have foot pain on my left foot top and bottom. I feel the pain started because of my worn out shoes. I've been running on the treadmill with them for over 2 years. Those shoes were not running shoes to begin with so that's when I went wrong first. I continued using them till they were really worn out and torn. That's when my foot really started to hurt. I took 10 days off consecutive from the gym which is the longest I ever taken off ever. It helped so I returned to the gym with new shoes and I felt 80% better but not fully healed. I started jogging and power walking on the treadmill but now the pain is back. I'm very active I'm the gym and it's hard to stay away. This time I may force myself to take a month off completely from jogging and weightlifting.

Omg this is EXACTLY my issue.
Just noticed it about 3 weeks ago.
When I first get up in the morning my bone under my right big toe feels as if it's swollen & protruding down.
It's very sore on top of my foot, also I've noticed my big toe drawing inwards rods the second toe
I bought a foot brace to keep the big toe straight.. it's yet to arrive.
I'll also try loosing & skipping the crisscross on my shoe.
    Hope this helps.
    Definitely don't want surgery
    THANX for the suggestion!!

I've had x-rays, an MRI and had a steroid injection (its effect wore off after 5 months!) and it's getting worse. I'm in Ireland - should I go back to doctor and/or podiatrist? Any suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks.

I just naturally started to tie my shoes differently and it's a big help. My arch supports and my bone spur are constantly competing with each other to see which one can give me the most trouble! I wear different shoes every day and change them also in the middle of the day if I'm working.

    • @dm5129
      @dm5129 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I try to wear different shoes all the time too. My car looks like a shoe store but to alleviate pain in a particular spot it is needed. I was pretty sure it was from arthritis because I had that already in childhood. However now bone spurs start and that is mighty painful. I am going to begin to take supplements for joint support, cartilage support and bone support. When looking at all the different ways in which this type of health is impacted and how it may be possible to see small positive changes I realized that this will likely be something that has to be applied for a long time, possibly a life long health aide to combat additional aging.
Perhaps if I see it as as vital as the daily blood pressure pill that keeps me in a safe range then I will be able to better befriend the idea that this will also be a lifelong adjustment.
I do remember the great satisfaction I get when I have gotten a diagnosis correct and with the help of supplements I choose successes can be registered. This is the outcome I am hoping for because then everything was worth it.

Are those orthotics made specifically for her feet or can we purchase those somewhere? I also have pain on the top of my feet, but I sometimes also have some pain on the upper side of my feet. What should I do about that? I love wearing my Burkenstock sandals so I thought that maybe I should buy the Burkenstock shoes. Well, the shoes are a little constrictive for my wide feet. So I took the inserts out of the shoes and put them in my New Balance shoes. But I still have pain in my feet.

I also see a lot of patients with metatarsal pain and I needed an insole I could add a metatarsal pad to so I moved over to Tread Labs th-cam.com/video/XMS0MoRyLHE/w-d-xo.html I have since become an affiliate (full disclosure) but honestly Tread Labs is my go to insole for my patients.
