    The biggest reason why I loved snakes and want a collection of them is because I love to watch them eat.

  • @greenwizard2112

    Because it's green, it's a python, and it lives in trees. DRRRR

    I have two snakes. Snakes are just so great because they are so easy to care for.

    • @rdm0108
      @rdm0108 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Everyone says gtps/snakes are difficult to care for...not true at all! Easiest and cleanest animal I ever cared for. All of my gtps are puppy tame if you know how to read them.

    I’ve had a Biak locale gtp for about 4 years. After having this species and owning a wide variety of boas and pythons. Hands down my favorite. Not a snake if you want to handle and walk around with but great for viewing.

    These guys have to be the sexiest in the snake world. I've heard there are some species that are not as nippy and are pretty chill. Is that true? I have a Carpondro, but she is mostly Carpet, with a bit of GTP. She doesn't even like her perch except right after she does a big pooh. She's like "Get me off the ground." LMAO

      I have heard that sorong locale isn't as bad. I have also played with an Aru that was a sweetheart.

    • @juliew1426
      @juliew1426 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aru! That's the one. The mgr of the reptile store I go to has an Aru and he said that they are much more mellow, with work, as they get older. Hey, if you want a docile snake, get a BP, right? They are the sweethearts of the snake world.

  • @rdm0108
    @rdm0108 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If your gtp takes live mice off of tongs then it'll take f/t with no issues.

    First, love your videos! I actually met you when i went to k-state. Thing i found with green trees, is your really have to know their locale, i worked with Greg Maxwell, at sedgwick county zoo. You may know he was first to bring gtp to US. They have such a big range in locale, the care is different for each. Some need more humidity some dont. Impaction could be several things, but humidity also could be that varible. Great job on videos, keep it up.

    The Green Tree Python is actually one of my dream snakes. I know they can lean to the aggressive side at times but I think they are a amazingly beautiful snake.
    Also Matt, do you have Reptile Prime in your store yet, i looked last couple times i was in to get supplies and i didn't see it, was not sure if you were out or if you are still waiting on it, or if i just overlooked it all together.

    Since snakes eat from sensing heat will turning the heat lamp off first make the rat more visible to the snake?

      It might. But, He finds the food so well I don't think it would be neccessary, he just gets over stimulated. Very interesting theroy though.

      Olympus Reptiles we tried heavy duty Velcro but the sticky part of it failed even though the Velcro was super strong and it fell in the middle of the night but my baby was smart and didn’t go on that stick but suction cups seem to work like the bamboo sticks hopefully you guys have found a solution though and if not good luck!

    Do you guys have to worry about the humidity of your snakes?

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      absolutley. a good substrate goes a long way. That cage has a very thick layer of it to help humidity, and also a heater on the bottom to heat that and cause humidity. top is covered to keep humidity in. mist is great, and keeping about the bottom two or three inches of the substrate wet is too.

    Do you donate the snakes venom to hospitals so that they can make anti- venom?..

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      LISA PITTS this snake is not venomous. On my venomous no. One, it is dangerous and I wouldn't do that for free. Two, I would need all kinds of stuff to do that, equipment etc, and contacts/clients. Last, it would have to go to a lab. They then inject horses (mostly) to harvest the antibodies. That is then made into the antivenin that is sent to the hospital. Which they sell for the vastly over inflated price of around 6 to 10 k per.

    I'm not gonna be one of the hippies crying about it, but I'm just wondering, why do you feed so much live pray to the snakes? Why not use frozen thawed?

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sindre Eide some is honestly because it's easy. We breed our own. This is much quicker than killing than feeding. I also think it helps prevent waste. I can only that a f/t twice. If not eaten then it is discarded. Live, if not eaten I just return to the colony
