    This is a REAL rivalry and the other commenters trying to discredit it is nonsense.
    It isn't forced, there is REAL political animosity between these two regions that span other sporting fields and footbal is now just another front they are fighting each other one.

    I was born in the US and I follow alot of leagues across the world. In my time growing up I have seen the MLS growing and changing. It is evolving into a popular sport among the public. I think it's pretty cool. Yeah it's not like Liga MX, or other leagues in South America, but it is growing and I don't understand why these keyboard warriors like to bash the MLS and it's teams instead of going out there and supporting the clubs and making them grow. This was an awesome derby, and surely one of the best games I have ever seen in the MLS.

    This is by far the best derby/rivalry in the MLS. It’s fueled on the injustice the anglophone majority of Canada brought upon Québec for centuries, and that injustice still exists to an extent today from some anglophones, mainly west of Québec. This rivalry is by far the most meaningful, well rewarded derby in the MLS by far. The rest are just pettiness between either two new and old clubs from the same area, or two clubs relatively close to each other that only occurs because why not hate a team near you for no reason based on no prior incidents

      Hey, a montrealer here. You couldn’t be more right. When Catalonia tried to separate itself from the rest of sapin, people from quebec related and expressed a big support. Quebec (the french province in Canada, with Montréal as its biggest city) did try to separate two times from Canada in the last 50 years.

      None of the rivalries in the MLS can or ever will hold a candle to Schalke/BVB, El Clásico, the Old Firm, Arsenal/Tottenham etc. Because these teams have 3 generations of fans (or more) which add to the intensity and moreover football is a way of life here in Europe whereas it is sport number 4 in the USA. I don't see too many people in Europe criticizing the fact that "you guys will never be good at futbol". Quite the opposite in fact we are astounded how you can have such a weak league and national team considering you are bringing out some of the best athletes.

    Monterrey vs Tigres: is another intense derby. This teams hate each other intensely and games between these two are amazing
    Portland vs Seattle: for me is the best Derby of MLS. So much passion in this games. and so much history.
    Toronto vs Montreal: after this Eastern Championship I feel like we all witnessed the true start of this great rivalry between the two. Those type of games are what causes a true a derby. and I'm glad I witnessed the beginning or what start it all.

    I think what they meant was best MLS league rivalry in North America, because otherwise there's no way they could leave Liga MX rivalries out of this. They have way more history, and I'm not even a Liga MX fan, just being honest and showing my respect.

    I'm having a rough time to ''hate'' Toronto cuz I just don't know a lot about people over there. This final was amazing, so fun to watch. Toronto had the better team, kinda hurts me just to say it.

    The best of two series ever in MLS. Great rilvalry. Great league and still growing. Headed in the right direction. Very competitive unlike so many leagues in the World where the same teams win year after year. Way to go MLS! Congratulations.

    I mean if you combine the Toronto/Montreal with its other sports rivalries is does beat out other rivalries like all the liga mx ones but if you put it just with soccer no it's not give it awhile and it can get up there but right now it's not it's still young

    On point, when I think of Mexican Rivalries and compare them to things like Barca-Madrid, or the Old Firm, I don't see the cultural similarities. Perhaps a Mexican fan can correct me on this, but with Mexican rivalries, it's Mexican teams playing another Mexican team with the same language and similar culture. Perhaps there is a more cultural aspect like indigenous roots that could be explained. With Toronto and Montreal you have clear linguistic and political differences. Quebec has twice tried to secede from Canada in recent years. You have that in Scotland. You have that in Spain. No part of Mexico has ever felt "un-Mexican" to my memory. Perhaps this exists in a Mexican rivalry. I do like how Chivas only chooses Mexican players, but does that make them culturally different? Even on Club America, their fans don't hate Mexican players, so why would this cause extreme hate? Toronto FC and Montreal have the potential to be something special on those terms, where there is true cultural divide. MLS didn't make this up, it's existed on it's own for a very long time.

    • @elburrito4935
      @elburrito4935 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mexican Rivalries are not about politics or cultural differences. America is hated by many teams because they buy off players, refs alot of shady stuff and they brag how great they are which makes others mad. Mexican rivalries are about city pride and who can be the best club. When the world cup happens everybody comes together to support the National team Mexico has the best fans.
