Hand sanitizer from the dollar store works great too because it has alcohol in it. I love those thick microfiber cloths. I haven't seen those before. Mine are thin, so I will be looking for those. Thank you!
I also use rubbing alcohol on my tools and mat. I like using the rubber adhesive erasers also on my scissors. That also works. Thanks for sharing Sam. ❤❤
Linda Nagle I recently learned this trick - the adhesive eraser pulls glue off my scissors like no other cleanser, with very little effort. Brilliant!

Hi Sam, just a quick point. Aldi now sell fully biodegradable wet wipes. I use them for my crafts all the time
Great tips Sam I also use hand sanitiser on all my stuff brings them all up like new I have been using this for about 10 years now and no damage that I can see also thanks for all your video's I love them.

Concerning the self-healing mats...I learned this from a sewing channel... We are supposed to soak them in clear water for about a half hour so that they keep their self healing properties. Apparently it makes them keep them from becoming brittle with age. Also, I don’t know if you can get this across the pond or not, but there is a product called Cutter Glide that keeps things sharp longer. I think that it is silicone based. I know that they sell a product for sewing machine needles that uses the same premise and it would work as well. What you do (preferably when the tool is new) is put a single, tiny drop onto the blade and rub it in. Wipe away any residue that might be left behind and it will keep the blades sharp, longer. I use it after sharpening my tools too. I use it not only on my scissors, but also on the blades before I replace them on my electronic cutting machine and it keeps it cutting like butter for a lot longer. I also use it on the replacement blades for my Fiskar and WRMK cutters. I still go through more blades with the WRMK...but less than before. I only keep that one for crops since it also has the embossing board built in. I have not used this product on my guillotine because it has a self sharpening blade and I am not sure if that’ll damage it or not.
I would say wow you have a lot of scissors however I recognize and have many of the same ones, lol. I guess I have a scissor problem too and not just because I’m left handed. I’ve tried a glass mat but I’m a bit accident prone so a self healing mat is definitely my favorite.

So pleased to hear you saying you’ve stopped using wet wipes. We all need to reduce our single use plastic consumption and it’s a really simple step that us crafters can take. I too use microfibre cloths BUT when they wear out will replace with something else (Terry towel perhaps) as apparently microfibre releases micro plastics when they are washed. Still better than single use wipes though! Trying to be plastic free certainly isn’t easy! Now off to clean my tools as feeling inspired!

Woe betide any who use my sewing scissors for paper😱😂. I don't use cleaners of any kind now, as I am an ENJO consultant and use their outdoor pack for cleans like this, but I don't have a sharpener for my scissors so will get that. I used surgical spirit to clean everything in my days as a dental assistant 48 years ago! Great video..Keeping g all our tools clean is vital. I ENJO my mat too....A fibre, water and dry with a cloth!!

I do agree with you about glass mats and chopping boards, I got rid of my kitchen chopping boards because chopping on the glass set my teeth on edge. I will be buying a scissor sharpener soon and some surgical spirit and cleaning and sharpening all the scissors etc. as I put my hoard back into my craft room at then end of the week..... Christmas present from my husband was new desks and furniture, flooring and decorating. :)

I like to use the small (medical) alcohol pads that are generally used for wiping skin before getting a shot. They're cheap and great for cleaning as you go. I use them to clean my scissors and the tips of clogged gel pens. Being a diabetic, I have lots of them on hand, and keep some in my craft room, and some next to my computer to clean the keyboard.
Hi Sam, I use Eucalyptus oil to clean my scissors etc. I have a pair I use specifically for sticky stuff but often just pick up the nearest pair (naughty). Apart from the easy clean you get a lovely smell through the house. Love your tutorials. Judy from South Australia. x
Thanks, your methods the same as mine but I am definitely going to invest in a scissor and knife sharpener like yours. I've been using a stick blade sharpener for years, but I think yours probably sharpens both sides of the blades equally. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all Sam. X
Rubbing alcohol is my best friend in my craft room! I have special rags for that room too. 🤓
I've never had much luck cleaning residue off with rubbing alcohol. I use Goo Gone instead. I tiny dab of it goes a long way and cleans everything quickly. No scrubbing needed. Stazon and archival inks are the hardest to clean, but a good soak in hot soapy water is best for clear blocks. Rubbing alcohol can eventually cloud them if you don't get completely clean. For my scissors, I first use baby oil, then alcohol. Oil breaks down glue and stickers, and the alcohol removes the oil.

Hi Sam just a quick question I saw that you sharpened the little Tim Holtz scissors does that not effect the the blade as they have a serrated edge to them. I do love watching your videos x

Hallo Sam, this was a very helpful video, but i still have one question: how i clean my stamps (photopolymer and cling) in the right way after using stazOn? With baby wipes, StazOn cleaner, water or water and soap.....???

Thanks for great video, I was using hand santizer to clean my blocks, need a sharperner I was told that cutting Foil, sharpens scissors too? I always have sticky on my scissors from double sided tape, great to know how to clean them now..

Hi Sam have you tried Fiskars soft grip finger tip provision blade.if you're not keen on blades I find it easier to control

I do need to get a cloth like yours. I've been using coffee filters because they don't leave lint behind, but they aren't textured, so they don't "scrub" as I need them to do.
If your stamps are stained do they still work really well because I don't like staining my stamps
Stained stamps don't the effect them, if you don't like having them stained, then you can buy proper stamp cleaners that will remove that.
Doesn't alcohol rub away measuring indicators on rulers and mats? Great video!
It never has on mine. . .i think it would if your marks weren't permanent, but the mat marks are permanent. The marks on my rulers seem to be baked on? as well as sort of scraped in.

Great video! I wondered if the serrated scissors can be sharpened? The Tim Holtz scissors. Do you or anyone else know if they can be sharpened?
What I use to clean my tools that are mucked up and dirty is hand sanitizer. Works like a dream. Probably cause there’s alcohol in it. Lol.
