  • With over 1.3 billion inhabitants, India is the second most populous nation on Earth, and in regions such as Kerala and Kolkata, there is a lot of support for association football / soccer.
    However, the Indian national team hasn't really been a force in international football since their golden generation 70 years ago, when they featured at the 1948 and 1952 Olympic Games, but turned down a place at the 1950 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
    It has long been claimed that India did so due to FIFA banning barefoot players, but in this brief documentary, HITC Sevens takes a look back at the history of Indian football, the true reason why India didn't go to the World Cup, and the long term impact of that dreadful decision.

      Funny enough, serious injuries are few. Playing bare foot means you are 100% cautious on who is around you. When tackles fly, you make sure to escape them.
      But 50/50 challenges are safe as long your foot touches the ball

    • @DhrubaPal
      @DhrubaPal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Played with guys on the field who casually take out nail that got pierce in their foot. They start running as if nothing ever happened. When I used to train I trained bare footed because pele and other great local players used to play in same way. It increase your strength and ball control immensely. Boots however give you certain edge but if you can drill in 30 yard free-kick easily barefooted (even a bullet) then with boots on it will be more impactful.
      Back in my school days I used to play as CF,CDM,CAM,CB and GK. My dad used to take me to train for GK practice on uneven grounds where bounce are really unpredictable to work on my reflexes. Players in Africa, India, South America can be world class players if they get proper honest coach and opportunities.

Still... one needs to consider that Iceland only has around 100 professional football players to select from, they've got a lower population than Luxembourg , which plays in the C level of the Nations League... Hats off to their achievements in the recent big tournaments, they did what quite a few bigger nations were unable to do.

The significance of the location being that's where their team lost their lives in a plane crash 19 years earlier en route to a world cup qualifier that would've seen them qualify for the 94 tournament with only a point needed.
    That national team was one of the best in Africa during the 70s- the 90s and beat Italy in the olympics in Seoul 88. Everything about that country's journey is quite a story and I'd love if you did something given that was the highest point of their football team and it's been a joke since they won the AFCON in 2012

    Great video. Think you can make a video as to explain how and why China has not qualified in the World Cup outside of 2002, when Japan and South Korea were already in (as co-hosts) while Australia was in the Oceania federation? Individual sports at the Olympics seem to be a springboard for them in sports, but we haven't seen that in the beautiful game yet. In Asia, we have eyes on countries like Qatar and Vietnam becoming quite interesting for future prospects although Japan, South Korea and Australia still remain top dogs overall.
