  • Red Rock Canyon State Park was supposed to just be an overnight camping stop for us in the Mojave Desert on the way to Death Valley. It turned out to be an epic adventure that included a serious off-road trail and exploring an abandoned mine high in the El Paso Mountains.

I'm very impressed - you got a lotta guts driving through THAT terrain - makes me nauseous just WATCHING it! And your wife and son deserve credit for sticking by your side!

Hello! We are going to be staying at this campground next weekend, bringing our dirt bikes. I think we'll want to check out Burro Schmidt Tunnel; curious, how many miles was it on Last Chance Canyon to get to the tunnel? Thanks!

I want to say from the paved road through the canyon to the tunnel is maybe 3-5 miles. The canyon was pretty slow going in places with lots of rocks in the trail, guessing from the recent rains.
