    Thank you so much! There are not nearly enough videos on how to get the most from synthesizers. It's so frustrating to have all these features and not be able to use them.

      Thanks Ray. I should probably redo it because I've left out some interesting bits (like using the pitch wheel for vibrato instead of the mod wheel).

    Gone through many videos on youtube, to understand the functions of modulator & pich bending, never found anything satisfactory, but your explanation was awesome, it was easy & crisp. Thanks. Subscribing you bro.

    Was finding some info. about Modulation Wheels at Computer program,
    and I could found what I want here, though I don't play synthesizers.
    Also I became interested to playing synthesizers.
    Thanks for great, detailed easy explanations, very much!
    I will remember your tips when I compose sth. (insignificant)
    Also, you have good voice, I think :)

    Thank you for that great explanation over the uses of pitch bend and the mod wheel. Sadly though for me I have NEVER been able to use them in a live performance. My brain simply cannot re-adjust to finding the right position for the bass once I remove my hand.

    mod wheel better than joystick for effects which can be switched on/off, because you can leave it the position where effect is applied constantly, until you don't touch the wheel.
    joysticks are usually spung, and you must hold it all the time to keep effect applied

    • @MangoldProject
      @MangoldProject  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. I never could understand why Roland, Korg and so many others employ Joysticks. So many effects like autopan, tremolo, leslie, etc need a variable modulation wheel which doesn't snap back to the origin, that I really can't understand what would motivate a company to use a joystick other than the initial "wow" factor.

    I can see where Roland's joystick could be preferable over the typical pair of wheels for this kind of playing. Very cool demo and use of that unique feature!
    Do you ever find the joystick's action (the tension and auto-centering) undesirable for certain sounds that require subtle or very gradual modulation swells, like strings and brass?

    • @MangoldProject
      @MangoldProject  8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +Wourghk I *hate* the Roland joystick, because the modulation part (up/down motion) always snaps back to 0. Many sounds use the modulation wheel to control crucial features - e.g. auto-pan in electric pianos - and I can't use it because the moment I let go the effect goes away! Give me two independent wheels any day.

    • @MangoldProject

      It's probably a modulation wheel that's mapped to the filter cutoff frequency.

    • @MangoldProject
      @MangoldProject  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What do you mean? You simply move the joystick a bit more or a bit less.
      You can also adjust from within the keyboard (in most keyboards) the number of semitones a full bend equals.

    Hi guys - my 88keys doesnt have modulation wheels for pitching my synths... are you aware if there is a possiblity to connect a midi expression pedal somewhere in the system - and how to connect them being able to do the same as with the wheel??? best, Chris

    • @MangoldProject
      @MangoldProject  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @traumkapitan

    Does anyone know if any company makes pitch bending and modulation pedals with a joystick control like this one? I have good keyboard instruments (don't need to spend money on one with the joystick) I'm just looking for a device/pedal that has a joystick where I can manually control the pitch and modulation sound waves on my farfisa.. if anybody can answer that I'll love you forever.

    • @MangoldProject
      @MangoldProject  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately the answer is no.
      The closest thing I'm aware of are assembly kits offered by Doepfer, but it's not easy to get them to work (you need to build it!!!). Check this out:
      www.doepfer.de/we.htm
      Even if there was such a thing, there's no guarantee your keyboard would *respond* to it. For example, my Nord Electro 5D doesn't respond to incoming pitch bend messages even when I control it from a keyboard that has a pitch wheel.

    I'd been getting by with a cheap keystation keyboard with a modwheel for the last few years.
    But I just got an 88 key keyboard with proper key action or properly weighted keys. But it does not have a modwheel whereas my old cheap keyboard did have one and I used it a fare amount for string orchestras.
    I really want to use the new keyboard but the lack of modwheel is a huge hit.
    Does anyone have a tip or any suggestions?

      I looked through it but couldn't find the exact thing I'm looking for. but a lot of great suggestions.
      I'd be happy if the controler only has one slider or a wheel.
      I guess no one would make such thing and try an sell it for almost no money.
